Power loss between ‘88 and ‘89 was not due to the fueling change to MAF, but rather a change to a less aggressive cam.

The late 80s and 1990 were the best years of the Foxbody. I'm a big fan of the refreshed design and the high horsepower for the time. Those 5.0's are fun cars and have a beautiful exhaust note. Fox platform vehicles are very easy to modify. Foxbody Mustangs have been rising in price value for a few years now and are becoming a very popular classic car.

Didn't really do the 5.0LX at all in this video. I bought brand new an 1986 Mustang LX with the GT options and nothing else. Blue fastback, had so much fun! The insurance lady on the phone asked me if it was a turbo, I said noooo, just an old fashioned v8, and got the low rates on it. Ive had 3 of these cars, a 87 a 89 and a 91 GT, still have the 89 and the 91,the 91 is my semi daily soon to be retired,its been my semi daily for 20 something years, incredibly reliable cars, its funny how things change, when i was younger in the 80s and 90s no one called these cars "Foxbodies) if you had, people would look at you funny like "Whatchu talking about Willis??", they were always "Five os" or a 5 liter, kinda like with the advent of the Honda movement and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and how it went from "Nitrous" to "NOS" , you woulda walked into a speed shop in the 80s and 90s wanting to fill your bottle and say "hey can i have some NOS?" the guys working there for sure would have been talking about you long after you were gone. A few years ago i bought me a 95 T bird which i still have and that car really made me appreciate the ole 302,man those are some good engines,reliable to a fault, 4.6s are good too but they have too many things wrong for my liking,Ive never had the intake on my Mustang blow up on me,my rear cylinders get the water they need and we dont have 2 different 302s plus ive never been driving my Mustang and heard this loud bang only to raise the hood and find out one of my plugs was gone ha ha ha. We are super lucky to have late model restoration on the 79 to 93 Mustang side, i remember in 99-00s when i had "the fever" full blown, buying things from them when they were a little bitty company,they have grown leaps and bounds and i couldn't be happier,just yesterday i ordered some parts for my 91 from them, i know they will get here lighting fast and i know i can always rely on them for anything, LMR is a SOLID company. The legacy of the 5 liter Mustang will be good looks and affordable fun for the masses on a platform thats easy to work on and very reliable, i couldn't see myself driving anything else, i am a little weird in the respect that i never dogged my Mustangs like most people did but i guess thats why i still have mine and the people i knew that had theirs are on their 13th car mainly some Camry or minivan while what used to be a Mustang they owned is languishing somewhere in a pull a part or has been turned into a bumper, i dont care much for going fast, i just enjoy my Mustangs.

I got parts off of a rolled 79 Pace Car that I think was a 500 Festival car,, last six of the VIN was 480054. Quite informative, although a bit overwhelming in one sitting. I find interesting that the body styles didn't change much, if at all. I have a low-key interest in owning a Fox Body Mustang, but I have a question: Is it possible to mix and match front and rear body ends with little to no modifications? Make a Fox Body Mustang with styling of your choice? It's something that have piqued my curiosity. Thanks for an informative video on these iconic Mustangs.
@foxfordcatguy2283
@foxfordcatguy2283 5 жыл бұрын
Jose Rivera Yes, the parts interchange from '79 all the way through '93. You just have to match the nose (grille/bumper cover) with the correct hood. There are 4 basic frontend treatments: '79-'82, '83-'86 (the '83-'84 grille is different than '85-'86 but the hoods are the same), and '87-'93. (Of course the GT bumper covers are different than LX/base models most years-GTs usually have fog lights except '83). The body side mouldings also only match with the corresponding front or rear bumper covers: 4 basic styles '79-'84, '85-'86, and 2 seperate styles for '87-'93 (one for GT and one for LX). The '91-'93 front fenders have a larger wheel opening which also requires matching fender bodyside mouldings for those years.

I found this post about Foxbodies in an old 2009 post in www.stang.com; Back in the mid-70's, about the time the Mustang II was introduced, Lee Iacocca got his engineers together and gave them an assignment to create a new (for Ford) concept in vehicle production. He wanted to move to "platform" design, where several cars could be built off of one basic pan. At the time Volkswagen was the leader in this concept with their Fox platform, on which they built the Fox, Golf (Rabbit), 100LS and Dasher among others, so the first Ford platform took the name Fox. On it, Ford built millions of Fairmonts, Granadas, Thunderbirds and our beloved Mustangs. I would highly recommend two books for anyone that is interested in Fox Mustangs: The Official Ford Mustang 5.0: Technical Reference & Performance Handbook : 1979 Through 1993 and Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide 1979-1993. Both are excellent sources of true and accurate information about our cars. This is why it's called Foxbody. I used to love forums where people actually had Read knowledge. Not fake KZbin regurgitation.

8.8 rear end came in MY1985, I seem to recall that the last half of MY1984 cars could have had 8.8 rear ends too. Also, the MAF system was introduced in California in 1988 and on every car in 1989. IIRC, the galloping horse logo was installed in 25th anniversary mustangs and later, so latter half of MY1989 got them, first half of MY1989 did not have horse. Lastly, it was 1991 I believe when Ford changed the geometry of the K-member, so in stock form the 1991 and later cars have more desirable front suspension geometry. Aftermarket K-members address this issue on earlier cars.

Of all the successor mustangs I feel this generation was the one that most closely captured the spirit of the original. Similar body styles, multiple engines choices, etc. And they didn't need to design any stupid retro gimmicks to sell them either no fake brake cooling vents, no retro dash. It was its own design.

Chris McBurney What about the fake ducts on the '87-'93 GTs? Or the fake hood scoops on the '79-'83s (Cobra, Pace Car, GT, and non-SVO turbo 2.3)?

Hello Chris! I agree. That is what makes the Fox Mustang so Iconic! FoxFordCatGuy I believe he was saying that the later model Mustangs had all the "gimmicks" but the Fox had its own design.

Is that Mike Clay's Cobra I spotted in the thumbnail and video? I do believe so. Very nice! Great video as usual, and I loved the cobra so much I converted my GT vert into a cobra body style.

A pretty good generalization. A little disappointed that the 82 year didn't have much focus though, being the reintroduction of the GT trim after so many years, and being the last year of the pace car front air dam.

Imagine Mustang sales if Doc Brown used an black '85 GT instead of a Delorean. Funny enough the sound effect as the time machine first backs off the van is a 5.0 with Flowmasters. BUT the Porsche v8 5.0l. I think the 928 with the goofy lean back pop up headlights.

I had a 1983 GT fastback or three door hackback , 302 HO high output , HO heads with roller rockers , headers ,dual exhaust of course, 600 Holley crab , bored 30 over, 5-speed 411 rear end gear , positive traction slap bars with rubber pads that came up against the uni-body and locked the rear-end ,not the worsed not the best but so much fun to drive it was unreal!! This car was stolen out of my yard on a roll back truck while at work!! I miss it terrible! It's probably chopped up and parts scattered!! Who knows?? Only the lord 🙏!

Yeah, puts things into perspective. I have a 08 charger SXT 3.5L V6 that develops 250hp. I always felt it had enough power but felt inadequate when looking at the SRT8 6.1 V8 with 425hp. In the early 90's I though the 5.0's were awesome but couldn't have fathomed that I'd have considerably more power in my mid range family car just 15 years or so later.
