The late 80s and 1990 were the best years of the Foxbody. I'm a big fan of the refreshed design and the high horsepower for the time. Those 5.0's are fun cars and have a beautiful exhaust note. Fox platform vehicles are very easy to modify. Foxbody Mustangs have been rising in price value for a few years now and are becoming a very popular classic car.

A freelance designer designed most Fox bodies. He also wrote many of the shows on A new network called Fox, which he helped create. Married with Children, Mad TV, In Living Color, Night Court, Star Trek the Next Generation, DS9, Knight Rider, The A-Team, The Fall Guy and The Dukes of Hazzard are A few of his shows.

There are plenty of people ready to line up and take credit for his work. Jack Telnack...paddy whack, was one of them. Initial designs for the Fox Body came from A child prodigy at the time, other vehicles followed. Why would the most prolific ghostwriter/designer of our time, limit himself to one network/manufacturer? Robocop...Ford Taurus BTTF 2...Ford Probe Transformers...Camaro, prototype Corvette Ect. The square-ish 80-82 T-Bird was a Fox Body. I owned two 79 Mustang Indy Pace Car 5.0 4 speed and 5.0 automatic. I got parts off of a rolled 79 Pace Car that I think was a 500 Festival car,, last six of the VIN was 480054. It was a 5.0 automatic and there was a two digit sticker on the plastic side of the inside rear view mirror.

Quite informative, although a bit overwhelming in one sitting. I find interesting that the body styles didn't change much, if at all. I have a low-key interest in owning a Fox Body Mustang, but I have a question: Is it possible to mix and match front and rear body ends with little to no modifications? Make a Fox Body Mustang with styling of your choice? It's something that have piqued my curiosity. Thanks for an informative video on these iconic Mustangs.
@foxfordcatguy2283
@foxfordcatguy2283 5 жыл бұрын
Jose Rivera Yes, the parts interchange from '79 all the way through '93. You just have to match the nose (grille/bumper cover) with the correct hood. There are 4 basic frontend treatments: '79-'82, '83-'86 (the '83-'84 grille is different than '85-'86 but the hoods are the same), and '87-'93. (Of course the GT bumper covers are different than LX/base models most years-GTs usually have fog lights except '83). The body side mouldings also only match with the corresponding front or rear bumper covers: 4 basic styles '79-'84, '85-'86, and 2 seperate styles for '87-'93 (one for GT and one for LX). The '91-'93 front fenders have a larger wheel opening which also requires matching fender bodyside mouldings for those years.

Ive had 3 of these cars, a 87 a 89 and a 91 GT, still have the 89 and the 91,the 91 is my semi daily soon to be retired,its been my semi daily for 20 something years, incredibly reliable cars, its funny how things change, when i was younger in the 80s and 90s no one called these cars "Foxbodies) if you had, people would look at you funny like "Whatchu talking about Willis??", they were always "Five os" or a 5 liter, kinda like with the advent of the Honda movement and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and how it went from "Nitrous" to "NOS" , you woulda walked into a speed shop in the 80s and 90s wanting to fill your bottle and say "hey can i have some NOS?" the guys working there for sure would have been talking about you long after you were gone. A few years ago i bought me a 95 T bird which i still have and that car really made me appreciate the ole 302,man those are some good engines,reliable to a fault, 4.6s are good too but they have too many things wrong for my liking,Ive never had the intake on my Mustang blow up on me,my rear cylinders get the water they need and we dont have 2 different 302s plus ive never been driving my Mustang and heard this loud bang only to raise the hood and find out one of my plugs was gone ha ha ha. We are super lucky to have late model restoration on the 79 to 93 Mustang side, i remember in 99-00s when i had "the fever" full blown, buying things from them when they were a little bitty company,they have grown leaps and bounds and i couldn't be happier,just yesterday i ordered some parts for my 91 from them, i know they will get here lighting fast and i know i can always rely on them for anything, LMR is a SOLID company. The legacy of the 5 liter Mustang will be good looks and affordable fun for the masses on a platform thats easy to work on and very reliable, i couldn't see myself driving anything else, i am a little weird in the respect that i never dogged my Mustangs like most people did but i guess thats why i still have mine and the people i knew that had theirs are on their 13th car mainly some Camry or minivan while what used to be a Mustang they owned is languishing somewhere in a pull a part or has been turned into a bumper, i dont care much for going fast, i just enjoy my Mustangs.

I found this post about Foxbodies in an old 2009 post in www.stang.com; Back in the mid-70's, about the time the Mustang II was introduced, Lee Iacocca got his engineers together and gave them an assignment to create a new (for Ford) concept in vehicle production. He wanted to move to "platform" design, where several cars could be built off of one basic pan. At the time Volkswagen was the leader in this concept with their Fox platform, on which they built the Fox, Golf (Rabbit), 100LS and Dasher among others, so the first Ford platform took the name Fox. On it, Ford built millions of Fairmonts, Granadas, Thunderbirds and our beloved Mustangs. I would highly recommend two books for anyone that is interested in Fox Mustangs: The Official Ford Mustang 5.0: Technical Reference & Performance Handbook : 1979 Through 1993 and Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide 1979-1993. Both are excellent sources of true and accurate information about our cars. This is why it's called Foxbody. I used to love forums where people actually had Read knowledge. Not fake KZbin regurgitation.

Craig Olson Just gonna throw this out there it's been awhile living in my Mustang life but time to get back at it.... Great videos.... I have a1983 mustang GLX Convertible... 5.0..5spd Manual.... White exterior black stripe up hood... With hood scoop...Interior all black....78,000 Original miles... Only thing not original are the rims.... Was told came factory with hubcaps. Years ago when I was researching I could not find one like this... Was told by the car dealer that the guy that owned it before me ordered it out... I'm thinking I might have 1 of 1.... Open for any comments... Craig R. Olson

Are you saying it came with a hood scoop from the factory?

You missed one; in 1980 they made a sprint model with the 3.3L, 200 circuit. Inline 6, mine had a white body with blue stripes, great car, would give the same year 5.0 L V-8 a run for the money, torquey, fuel efficient runner !!

'80-'81 Foxes didn't come with the 5.0, they had the 4.2/255 a destroked 302/5.0.

*that should be "255 is an under-bored 302" not "destroked." Same stroke as a 302 but smaller bore.

It would be ridiculous not to consider the sn95 a fox, most of the parts are use to upgrade foxes!

I miss the 83 hatchback I had when I was stationed in AZ. Only had a 3.8l in it, but it could keep up with damn near anything. Except the RX7's the Butter Bars were driving. Drove it from AZ to OH on leave many times. Then some idiot hit me head on doing some expensive damage. Had the choice to fix or total it out. I really made the wrong decision.

8.8 rear end came in MY1985, I seem to recall that the last half of MY1984 cars could have had 8.8 rear ends too. Also, the MAF system was introduced in California in 1988 and on every car in 1989. IIRC, the galloping horse logo was installed in 25th anniversary mustangs and later, so latter half of MY1989 got them, first half of MY1989 did not have horse. Lastly, it was 1991 I believe when Ford changed the geometry of the K-member, so in stock form the 1991 and later cars have more desirable front suspension geometry. Aftermarket K-members address this issue on earlier cars.

FYI, Cobra was not a trim level until 1993. in the early days of the foxbody; the Cobra was a package upgrade that was only offered on hatchbacks.

@@SargentKittens yes, this was for Ford to keep the Cobra trademark (1984-1992) name in Canada from going to public domain. The Canadian Cobra vin No. were also different than the US's Mustang GT to reflect that they were a different model. But other than the added decals, it was the same car as what was sold in the US as the Mustang GT.
