The primary purpose of a fuse is to protect the supply, not the appliance, but it may also protect the appliance as a consequence of limiting the energy.

This video shows how a fuse should work, now if they only worked that way in automotive electronics ! I just love needing to replace some $1,500.00 module because the 5 cent fuse didn't blow when the first component shorted !!

What's the difference between an electron and a homotron? Homotrons are the ones that go around blowing fuses.

Do a 3A FUSE blow if the current is dc and ac? Does the voltage affect the limit of current of the fuse at which it blows? Thanks for that

Is it the current or power that blows the fuse? Will a 12 v 5A fuse provide a 5A protection in 120vac or 220vac circuit?
@TantalumPolytope
@TantalumPolytope Жыл бұрын
i think its the current that matters. though you sould use a 120VAC or 220VAC rated fuse for those circuits.

I never understood how a certain fuse can be used at both 230V and 12V. How can it still burn out at the same amount of amps when the lower voltage should give a much lower amount of energy? How could it not the be the total amount of energy that makes the fuse burn out? So confusing

The current
@125brat
@125brat Жыл бұрын
The rupture or operation of a fuse or other protection device as it is correctly called is dependent on its I^2*t characteristics. This is effectively independent of the applied circuit voltage, but depends on the short-circuit current available to operate the fuse in a given time. Fuses however do have a maximum voltage rating for their safe and correct operation. Circuit design and cable sizing should allow the fuse to operate in the required time taking into account the load, i.e. a supply "stiff" enough to provide enough current under fault-condition to operate the fuse. All fuses should have graphs in their specification sheet showing the operating time verses current and this will vary for different fuse types such as anti-surge, mid-delay, motor-rated, fast-acting etc.

I have a question, swap any 2 phase for 3 phase motor to change rotation. no matter star or delta connect. Is that porper way? doss it loss hp or make any problem? can't find answer, please!
@125brat
@125brat Жыл бұрын
No, provided it's just a motor then all 3 poles of the motor are identical and there will be no loss of power or efficiency and no harm will be done provided whatever the motor is connected to can handle the reversed direction.

So, theoretically, if you’re stranded on an island and trying to repair a motor or something, you could use a piece of regular wire instead of a fuse, as the fuse doesn’t control the amount of electricity but rather just acts as a shutoff? Obviously you’d be operating more dangerously if that’s the case, but working dangerously would be better than not working in that scenario.
