This video is the first search result for "gypsy guitar review"..... I had to get creative what to search for because I wanted to find a video ABOUT what a gypsy guitar is, not a video OF gypsy guitar music. Thank you for your explanation!

The Gypsy Jazz Guitars also have slightly smaller bodies which allowed them to get that percussive sound

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I wanted to know. The sound difference between a regular acoustic and a proper gypsy jazz guitar is huge. I suppose even a Martin with Savarez gypsy jazz strings won't sound quite like a proper gypsy jazz guitar.

Great James happy to help! I haven’t tried the lighter Savarez string on my old Martin…I imagine it would be much quieter. Good luck in your Gypsy Jazz adventure…have fun!

6:43 Am6 Chord on Petite Bouche Guitar (I believe it's an Altamira because Altamira makes these kinds of Guitars) 6:56 Am6 Chord on Martin Guitar (Probably a D-28) I was learning that Rhythm on my new Jasmine S35 that I got from my ASL 2 Teacher (Mrs Ashley Hellett) as a Birthday Gift. When I got that Guitar it needed new Strings so I restrung it w/ John Pearse #2600 Nickel Plated Steel Wound Light Gauge Acoustic/Electric Jazz Guitar Strings, & those strings produced a really neat sound that falls in between a Selmer Maccaferri & a Martin. Nickel Plated Steel Wound Strings (w/ a Wound G) on an Acoustic Guitar basically react & sound a bit like Silver Plated Copper Wound Strings so it's more of a Gypsy Jazz Sound.

being an ordinary everyday guitar player getting a gypsy style guitar is like an ordinary electric player getting a guitar with a floyd and active pickups

I just got a new Jasmine S35 Acoustic Guitar which needed new strings because the ones that were on it were old and rusty. I was able to get away with using John Pearse 2600 Nickel Plated Steel Wound Light Gauge Acoustic/Electric Guitar strings. Electric Guitar strings on an Acoustic Guitar actually sound a bit like Silver plated copper wound strings so it's more of a Gypsy Jazz sound.

It's a kind of Steel String Acoustic Guitar popularized by the great Django Reinhardt.
@jeanclaudebossonney75202 жыл бұрын
As far as I know Selmer Maccaferi guitars have been developped to sound louder than regular guitars, as were Dobros. It seems that this was not really achieved. Maccaferi resonator was not as efficient as scheduled. It has been removed from most of the guitars.A big difference with a Martin, or "regular" acoustic guitar is that the top is mad of laminate, not plain wood. imho, Django and his peers played Selmer guitars because they were readily available at that time. Would Gibson or equivalent Jazz guitars be available at that time, the sound of Gipsy Jazz would probably have been rather different.

Thr top is not laminated. The back and sides are. The real guitars from that time were a lot louder at certain frequencies so they stood out when playing in a group , the new copies are hit and miss.
@jeanclaudebossonney75202 жыл бұрын
@@karelenhenkie666 I made a mistake. Effectively the top was made of solid pine wood. As regards new copies, everything depends on the price point (and the luthier making the guitar). In most of the cases today, when playing live, everythings depend on the pickup or the transducer.

Jazz on a Steel String Acoustic Guitar was fairly popular until the mid 1930s when it was replaced with Electric Guitar. Having said that, Django Reinhardt rejuvenated the popularity of playing Jazz on a Steel String Acoustic Guitar and he even taught himself how to play it with 3 fingers after his last 2 fingers were paralyzed on his Left Hand which took 1.5 years to heal.

What is not widely appreciated is that Django was probably not the best manouche guitarist at the time (his crippled fingers) but due to the Hot Club recorded repertoire the best known. The "Paris jazz" popular in the cafes predated Django, dating back into the 19th century and parallel development to american jazz; some cross-fertilisation but largely independent development. Radio broadcasts came later, even gramophones were not that common, and strange as it may seem, the french do not speak or sing in english. America did not become the world centre for music until after the second war it was London and Django's recording royalties accumulated there.

!!! Greetings from Montréal, Québec, Canada !!!I love the 'Gypsy Swing Jazz' sound, but cannot find such guitars in my city. At 62 yrs. old, I will not spend too much money on my next guitar since it is only for my personal use. What would be the the lowest price and still acceptable sound brand name that you would recommend? I have seen a few made in China being sold on 'Alibaba web site, but i have heard/read so much/many negative opinions of it that I am worried about losing my money on an instrument that I shall not/never see coming to my door...guive me good advice, Thank you. May you and your familly stay healthy, Cheers !!!
