Late to the party but 'hi' from the Kent coast, England. The tip about dropping the pick is great and I have a question; just starting on Gypsy Jazz coming from a fingerstyle and hill country blues background, playing RL Burnside which is very rhythmic and percussive but also swings... is it possibleto play Gypsy Jazz fully fingerstyle and are there any good examples of top players doing this you might know of to check out? Great vid either way and new sub ❤

Hello Robin, I try to down and upstroke. But when I do the upstroke the plectrum tends to block behind a string. Is it because I hold the plectrum too loose or too firm? Only downstrokes is no problem. Thanks for your help.

I find holding the plectrum not too firm important. Best to have it held gently. Take it slow!

Hello sir, I am watching from Tennessee about an hour outside of Nashville. I'm new to the gypsy jazz genre and its completely on the opposite end of the spectrum from my norm. As a learning guitarist i feel it is better to not constrain oneself to one style of playing. I found your video by watching Ben Eller's video on playing a solo by Marty Friedman. Marty has an unorthodox picking form which Ben mentions is sometimes seen in gypsy jazz and that peaked my interest in the play style.
