What Is a Production Assistant and What to Expect

My retirement job is being a Background Actor in Atlanta. I love the job but for the first year, I thought that I was at the lowest rung in the industry but after watching the complex environment of the set I saw that the PAs were lower. They are there an hour before me and stay an hour after I leave, that's sixteen hours. They cannot ever sit down, they are afraid to go to the bathroom. However, they can watch and listen and soak up knowledge and understanding. The production is watching and seeing who is smart enough and hungry enough to move up. Thanks so much for this video... I like how clear and to the point you are, p.s you have a great speaking voice! :) What do you think about putting skills like growing your Instagram page and stuff like that in a resume skill section?

If it’s relevant to the type of job you are applying to, then definitely go for it. But in my experience, most PA jobs don’t involve social media responsibilities. I suggest catering your skills section to the specific job you are applying to and what skills they say they are looking for.

P.s what if someone wants to be an actor? But also wants to understand how things work behind the scenes and on set, is this a good job to get experience as well for how to behave on a set and see what is required of the more seasonal actors that are there for whatever show/movie? (Asking for a friend🤣) jk I’m asking for myself

I’m not super informed about the music industry but I assume the same applies to that as film and tv. If you think it will relate to your job, add it. If not, there’s no need. For acting, I recommend looking into background acting. It’s a great way to learn how the sets work while observing seasoned actors. I made a video about central casting and another on LA casting you might find useful!
