Michigan will surprise again this year. The depth is much better than anybody realizes. They brought in five or six key transfers and only two of them are projected as starters because the younger guys are stepping up after getting some reps last season. Listen, Michigan's defense can arguably boast that they have the best secondary in the Big Ten with the best cornerback in all of college football who by all accounts is projected to be a Top Five pick, the best two defensive tackles in the country that could be high draft picks themselves, and the two best starting linebackers in the Big Ten, both of which will be drafted too. When you add Wink Martindale to the equation you have what looks like the closest thing to an actual NFL defense in all of college football.

I agree with these takes. As an Ohio State fan, I also agree that the Buckeyes must go deep in the playoff and win against Michigan. Will they do it? Who knows, but considering everything that has gone into this season, that has to be the bar. Also, if I am looking at this objectively, I think Michigan will win against Texas early in the season. Their D should be very good again this year and they are playing at home. One omission from Klatt's list is Oregon. What would a successful season be for them? My guess would be playoff semi-final. Not saying they cannot win the whole thing, but that should be their bar considering their talent, coaching and resources.

Michigan is a 10 or 11 win team. A team doesn’t get the experience of a national championship game, have new starters have so much playing time in the 4th quarter of several blowouts, and maintain the same team first culture, and not win any of the toughest 3 games. The only teams Michigan will struggle against is Oregon, Texas, and OSU. A team with as much going for them as it is will not lose every tough game. USC is not a tough game. Washington is not a tough game. They are a team with more experience than anyone else in this position compared to any other team in history. Don’t be surprised if they are in the B10 championship game. It’s definitely not likely, but it is more than possible

Alabama has like the #2 or #3 roster in college football even after the transfers and they have a BETTER coaching staff than Alabama has had in probably 5 years? I do think there will be a 'transition period'. But, Alabama is going to be just as dominant as they've been the last 5-6 years. The Bama teams prior to 2020 were a different level than the Bama teams after. That will continue. But Bama will be in the national title picture every year under DeBoer. I don't really know why people are saying differently. Nothing supports that idea. On Texas? I've went back and looked through Texas's games. Who did they beat to garner the ranks that they have? Alabama. No one else. They have 0 meaningful wins outside of that Alabama win last year, period. And many people (including me) said Alabama was not a great team early last season. They couldn't pass and had a very mid-running game. Texas's ONLY dominant unit last year? Defensive line/run defense. It was perfectly suited for what Alabama's offense was at that time. Texas lost that game if it was played in week 10. I think Texas is overrated. They only GREAT unit that they had were on the defensive line and it's gone. Mark this post and come back to it in week 8 this season. I told you so. Michigan to be is a mystery. Everything in me says that they're over-ranked and will lose 3-5 games this year. But, I honestly have 0 insight inside the program. I don't know. They have a lot more talent on the roster than what I think initial impressions might think. But, what does the team look like without Harbaugh? We'll see. Colorado will be an 8-9 win team this year I think and that is a GOOD thing. People pushing championship run on Colorado are just not being realistic right now. Prime is a very unique character to have as your coach. He can do some special things. But, it's gonna take time to build a culture and more importantly a high level TEAM. Ohio State has the best roster in college football. Will it be enough? Ryan Day will not outcoach people like Kirby Smart or even Kalen DeBoer. But, Chip Kelly will play a MUCH BIGGER ROLE in that than anyone is talking about. Ryan Day has had multiple shots at the elite coaches in college football and has never beaten one of them. Chip Kelly has to play a big role in that going forward. If OSU loses to Michigan this year or gets beat by Georgia/Bama/Oregon or teams of that nature and doesn't make a big playoff run, I think Ryan Day is out the door. Final takes on other teams: Penn State 9-3 Georgia will have 1 loss going into the CFP Texas will have 3 losses Oklahoma will be one of those losses and Oklahoma will have 3 losses USC is going to have a rough year. I won't predict W/L as it's hard with Riley's playing style. But, the B1G and the SEC are a like in being line of scrimmage leagues. If you can't stand up at the LoS, you're gonna have a rough year. USC will not be able to do that against OSU, Penn State, Mich, etc.

I think Alabama will lose the pyschological edge the program had under Saban. There was an aura there and that aura really affected opposing teams. Many very very good teams were already mentally beaten heading into a Bama game, especially in Tuscaloosa. I saw it with Tenn teams, teams from Big 10-you sensed they didnt truly think they could beat Sabans teams. I think now opposing players and coaches will think - yes this roster is very good but they aren't that dominant dynasty. They are another really good team that has strengths but also weaknesses.

Dynasties are on their last leg. No knows what CFB will look like 5 or 10 years from now, but the swing is towards an NFL type of league, which means parity, in time. Teams stockpiling talent will be a thing of the past, just like the NFL, because of free agency and balancing your cap. Universities with huge alumni/corporate sponsorship/ endowments will balance, if not surpass, smaller schools that don't have the money, just like the NFL. Schools closer to big cities/metroplexes, will eventually benefit from this... for all the obvious reasons. In the next decade, after programs eventually becoming LLCs, universities partially own the brand, but split the profits with a management company that handles the day to day. NFL 2.0

Obviously, these aren't "predictions" but rather definitions of success. Nebraska and Colorado are extremely unlikely to hit 9 and 8 wins for example, but there isn't any denying how great those outcomes would be for the fanbases. OSU needs to beat Michigan for a successful season and Michigan needs to show it at least can compete with the top of the B1G in a down year for a successful season. I don't think Michigan fans need to win the conference to feel good, but maybe that's incorrect.

I'm ruling out any and all teams with a first year transfer QB from the National Championship on principle. I'm thinking about JJ McCarthy to Roman Wilson late in the 4th quarter of the Rose Bowl. They practiced and talked about that play for three years before the opportunity to execute it presented itself. First year transfer QBs will not have the type of chemistry and cohesion with their skill players to make those type of clutch plays when needed. That means cancel Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Florida State, and Miami from the get.

It seems that for the last decade Nebraska was improving and just unlucky to lose so many games . they have a chance to go 7-0 than finish the season 8-4, that's giving them a win over Rutgers that may not happen. they also have to face CU in the prove it bowl

OU is a proud program but they are in the deep waters now. Right now OU would have the #1 recruiting class in the big 12. Texas would be #2 in the Big 12. In the SEC that's only good for 7th and 8th respectively. I think OU will compete in the SEC as will Texas but making the playoffs every year might not be realistic for both programs. Texas got a pass this season with the schedule and honestly that is the only reason people are hyping them.

CU must win 8 games but should win +10. They have two Heisman trophy players and 10 draft picks. In the history of NCAAF teams with that much talent play for national championships. All CU fans ask for us to give Prime the same respect you would any coach. To not say CU should be competing for Natty is disrespectful. Less than 8 games would be epically horrible, maybe the worst coached season in the history of NCAAF. The last team that had two Heisman players was USC with Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush who went 14-0. CU is just like that USC team.

can you explain how they lost to alabama last season? i can. they're talented, but they coach to win with more talent. they put a spy on milroe because they were afraid to rush him and have him escape and get downfield. michigan beat alabama by rushing milroe, containing him and preventing alabama from throwing deep. the ravens' system is for real; UCLA used it last season with d'anton lynn learning under martindale and macdonald as a DB coach with the ravens. UCLA jumped from #102 in total defense to #11 in a single season, including holding USC to three (3!) yds rushing. that prompted USC to poach lynn away from UCLA less than a week later offering him over a mil a year. of course, it's the same reason michigan has owned duh osu three years straight after adopting the defensive system. cryin' day boasted he'd hang 100 on michigan after shredding DC don brown's defense. he hasn't even scored 100 pts total against michigan after making that boast.

Successful Year for Alabama will be 10 - 2 and host a Playoff Game.. There are 4 Games that will define Season this Year. @ Wisconsin, @ Oklahoma, @ LSU, @ Tennessee. That is 4 Tough Road Games. Quality team would got 2 - 2 but having Georgia at Home means you need to go 3 - 1 which will be quite a challenge for any team trying to make Playoff.

Alabama is the most talented team in the country in terms of “blue chip” prospects. Bama has a total of 15 five stars on their roster, most in the country. Georgia has the 2nd most with 12 five stars. You don’t have to be Saban to coach a bunch of 5 stars to a 10-11 win season. You just have to be better than Jimbo Fisher which isn’t hard to do lol.
