I use this to copy ready to wear without taking it apart. You need a layer of cork-board or corrugated cardboard. Above that, tracing paper. Top layer is garment to be copied. Identify grainline on both the tracing paper and the garment piece. Follow seam-lines of garment piece pressing enough to make holes in the paper. You may have to do half of the piece at a time. After you connect the pinholes, add seam allowances.

That’s a great idea to use cardboard underneath, especially if you don’t have a self healing cutting mat!

Thanks for sharing, I usually put tracing paper between the fabric and pattern and trace the pattern and markings out.

Not that it matters as they are near identical, but the tool being used is a Wartenberg wheel which was used in neurological medicine. The real difference is the wooden handle and the original sewing wheels didn't have such pointed needles, they were more blunted. These were adapted for sewing use. "Clothing pattern-making can use a version of the Wartenberg wheel, called a pounce wheel, to transfer markings from paper to fabric. Pounce wheels resemble standard Wartenberg wheels in shape but have wooden or plastic handles." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wartenberg_wheel

Interesting. Yeah I have both with and without the wood handle and they are the same. I have never heard a book or any one call it a pounce wheel. I wonder where that came from. INTERESTING. Thanks for sharing.

Hi. Are some paper better suited to the tracing wheel than other? Sometimes I find the perforated marks very hard to see, no matter how many times I run the tracing wheels.
@SewAnastasia26 күн бұрын
@@barefacedquestions & you are using the wheel with all the sharp points? The dots can be hard to see. What you can do is put chalk paper facing the paper & you will get colored dots.

@@SewAnastasia Thank you. Yes, my tracing wheel has sharp points. And chalk paper is another word for carbon paper?
