I've had Ventral Hernia since like 3-4 years ago. (approx 2 to 3 cm in diameter) bulge above the belly button) It hurts sometimes when I sneeze, coughing, having a bowel movement etc.. Back then I hoped that it would go away, but I learned that it isn't so. I visited my surgeon today, and he said that I need to try to lose some weight 5-10kg at least to make the surgery more successfull. I am a bit overweight 172 cm tall and weight 116 kg. My surgeon is very experienced, kind and gentle. Thanks so much for this video and explaining the details of signs, symptoms and treatment. I use a belt right now that I got from my surgeon, it makes things less painful. And i''m longing for the surgery and hoping that the pain will go away overtime afterwards.

Thank you. I have a large ventral hernia. I was having my cardio calcium checked and they told me about the large hernia. I’m just trying to educate myself. Patricia

Me too. I have a large ventral hernia and doctor said to lose some weight and that it would go away. I need to be more educated on this. I think I got it from being over weight and heavy lifting.

I had my incisional hernia repair 5 days ago in Denmark. It would have been nice to be able to discuss the mesh/no mesh option, but it's not really something I thought of asking. I wish I had. The system here doesn't really encourage direct dialogue with the surgeon, and one usually doesn't know who will be operating until the day of. I laughed (that hurt) when you talked about large hernias not needing large incisions. Mine is around 15cm. Perhaps it's because it has been reopened 3 times. First was for placement of a stoma. Then reversal. This repair was to fix the outcome of my last operation, which was just over a year ago. I brought to their attention first a month after the operation. That was November 2020. I got a CT scan in March 2021. Surgery was scheduled for June. Delays were due to covid. Then nurses went on strike and my date was set back to November. In that time, since i first brought it to their attention, a small defect turned into what the scan shows as one 75mm ventral hernia and a smaller umbilical hernia. Post operation, the larger defect measured 150mm. It had grown double in size. My question is, should i be concerned about this polypropylene mesh? Have there been success stories where people have had no issues? From what I've read, it's a self clinging type? There are internal sutures as well as staples on the outer incision. Perhaps the cut is so long because there were 2 defects? And interesting about the pain. I'm doing paracetamol and ibuprofen as well, at home, but I had an epidural pack placed before I went under. I was told that because of the size, it could be quite painful the first couple of days.

Hi, I cannot comment on specific cases on this platform. But to answer your general questions: polymer mesh can be safely used. Post procedural pain is dependent on a variety of factors, including technique, and use of specific medications.

Understandable, and thanks for the reply. I've been managing well except for the bulge, which I think is seroma and scar tissue, but resembles hernia.

I had an umbilical hernia repaired 3 years ago and now I have a baseball on my belly when the original hernia was barely noticeable.

Dr, I have a hernia above my belly button that feels like a bulge (ventral?) I had an ultrasound a couple of years ago and the limited information I got back was that it was a 2cm fat contained hernia that didn’t need surgery. I wanted to find out if I had diastatis recti but the report didn’t mention it. I’m dealing with some inflammation and feeling fed up. I would like to lose about 25 pounds, is it better to lose before surgery and also I like to lift light weights (up to 18pounds and full body type work, not abdominal work), is this okay to continue? I would really like to get the hernia fixed but perhaps I should reach my weight goal first? The hernia makes me feel bloated and I can look a few months pregnant. Today it’s sore when usually its pain free which is what brings me here.

Reaching your normal weigh is always a plus. Very well could be a diastasis. Would have to examine it to be sure

I have a bulge the shape of a football above my belly button and I don’t feel any pain at all but I did gain a lot of weight and I’m 75lbs over my normal weight. If I lose weight will the hernia go away on its own or will I still need surgery?

Important to tell the difference between a "true hernia" and a diastasis.

I just subscribe, they told me yesterday that I have a ventricular hernia I am scared of surgery because I have a lot of scar tissue from an ovaries removal surgery dunno if that will make my hernia surgery dangerous 😣😪

Adhesions=Scar tissue can make a repair more complicated. But most repairs, can go well, if you have a skilled surgeon.

How about dissolvable mesh
@MindGutImmunity
@MindGutImmunity 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I do use dissolvable mesh products for certain types of ventral hernias. The scenarios where they really shine are very specific and usually involve a high-risk re-operative surgical site.
