Great video. We use waterfall displays in gamma radiation spectrometry, and I was looking for a good way to explain it to some of our public-affairs and other non-technical staff. The application is different, but your descriptions and visuals are exactly what I needed. Thank you!

I took a quick peek at Tecsun radios. Nothing I saw tells me that it can. 😞

So, what do you do with this data? I'll admit it looks cool, like The Matrix, but take a look at -17 or so... lot's of traffic. How do you know what channel that is? It seems cosmetic and not purposeful unless I am missing something.

The display has a set span and frequency markers across the bottom. You get a general idea of where the signal is by looking at this. What purpose does this have? One such application applies to when you first turn on your rig. The first thing a person should do before calling CQ is to listen across the band to see if there is someone else calling CQ. By looking at the waterfall display, they can see where signals are at and their relative signal strength. This makes this process of "seeing who is out there" a lot easier. This is just one of several applications. 🙂
