I agree. Bogs with cattails for example, clog up solid with pounds of roots. Floating plants are good and have fine roots for catching debris. If you use pipes on the bottom of a gravel bed, you can shoot air down to blast the debris out and make an overflow to divert the dirty water to your garden or grass.A leaf blower works great.

Ok so you have told us how crappy bog filters are , now what's your idea ? Do a video so we can see how YOU build your ponds . Thanks😊

The issue I have with the current design of all those wetlands is all that gravel and stone.. what a nightmare to try to clean... Here is my solution... make that same hole... Use those milk crate type of containers but don't use any stone... Get large bags of Horticulture Perlite and large nylon bags then bag it... stack the bags on top of the crates and put some flat stones on them... the bags are lightweight and easy to remove... still use a bottom drain

There's always a solution, if you think about things, and are a creative person. Nice.🙂

I think all plants with aggressive root systems that cause issues should be kept in like a moat around the bog so the roots are contained yet still filtering the water

We also just need to stay on top of our maintenance, and not let things grow unchecked.
