I was warned against MSG my whole life until I actually read up about it myself, now I use it in almost every dish. It's just like salt and should be treated as such. Loads of it isn't going to be great for you, but it's perfectly harmless otherwise

@@j.b.4090 I know that doctors recommend following a low sodium diet. And THAT IS the problem! Because noone mentions that SUGAR increases blood pressure even more than salt. Noone mentions that natural sea or mineral salt doesn't increase blood pressure the way that refined salt does. And finally, noone mentions that potassium and magnesium defficiencies lead to very high blood pressure and heart rate, even more so than the overconsumption of salt (which is very unlikely, since we develop a sensitivity to salt if we have too much of it).

As in the 1st case its a flavour enhancer and in the 2nd its pretty mucb the only flavour there is its also lilely when combined with salt , refined oils and other stuff we find in our food in the west there could be interactions unknown.

When I first started cooking, I was very disapproving of MSG. But in recent years, I looked into it, experimented with it, and found it to be perfectly fine. I don't agree with the people who put it in everything though. It makes a profound difference in a tomato sauce, but I wouldn't bother putting it on rice. It's not like salt which works in nearly every dish. But when it works, it works well. Thank you to Ajinmoto for showing us the factory. That's the brand I have at home!

MSG is approved by the regulatory agency called: FDA=food & drug administration. MSG is a neuro toxin taste enhancer and recognized by the FDA as drug. By identifying MSG as drug, the FDA now decides to have it legalized and for that approved. The FDA has approved the drug MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate) as to be a legal drug. Book reference: Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills. By Russel Blaylock.

The is nothing wrong with MSG as long you just use in moderate quantities like pepper. When you get dry mouth, thirsty etc, that eatery is using too much of it. Most eateries are profit-making institutions so they want their food to taste good at a minimum cost. BTW in the USA the US FDA mandates an ingredients list, and if you see "hydrolyzed..." it is an acceptable alternative name for MSG.

Tbh, I think the people who suffer ‘Chinese restaurant syndrome’ probably just drink way too much coffee. I once had a weird reaction (shaking and dizziness) after eating some Chinese Takeaway then drinking a large can of energy drink, which I’ve never had since (despite having had plenty of energy drinks and Chinese meals separately). My theory is that my body had focused so much energy on digesting the meal that it wanted to rest, and reacted negatively to the caffeine!

Acetone has been shown to be helpful in decreasing seizures in children with epilepsy. So like, its not even always a negative thing to habe high lvls of acetone in the human body Heck, theres even strong evidence our bodies can even metabolize acetone. its entirely dependent on dosage and the means by which the acetone came to be in the food. Yeah, if you splash acetone on some food and eat it; youre gonna have a bad time. But that doesnt negate that some of that food naturally produces acetone.

That's precisely what you mentioned, ALLERGIES. Goes the same for EVERY OTHER (FOOD) ALLERGEN out there (such as milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans) for anyone who's allergic to them, to AVOID consuming anything containing the allergens, not cos the source of allergen is bad, but it's because your body cannot tolerate the source of food allergens! So in conclusion, no, MSG is not bad for those who 1) are not allergic to it 2) use it in moderation and appropriately just as any other food seasoning e.g. salt, sugar.
