Thank you this helped a lot. I am currently studying art for A-Levels and I have recently started to think about doing a foundation course. Now I feel more confident about thay idea!

Thank you so much for posting this! I am currently doing A Levels and I am so stuck on whether to do a Foundation or go straight onto a degree. At the moment I am so set on doing Fine Art at Newcastle but I know I should really consider a Foundation, especially as it would be free. It is just so hard to find a place that offers a Foundation that I see myself going to as I do not want to go anywhere in London and of course with Corona virus, open days are not a thing at the moment which is so frustrating as it is so hard to get a feel of the place with little information online., and I find a lot of the info is contradicting each other or what my art teachers have told me. Thank you for such a clear and pretty video, there are just too many choices, it is so overwhelming to know what is best! xxx

Thank you, I'm glad this helped you :) Agh, I know, making a choice right now must be extra tricky too. It really is such a shame about the coronavirus in this case, especially because this course is free if you're under 19 but if you leave it later you have to pay. Anyway, I wish you the best and I hope you figure it out and get where you want to go in the end!

hello. I'm 26 years old and graduated from dental school. I had always love drawing and painting since I was young. I thinking about switching to art career and want to attend art foundation course in UK but am I too old for the course or will I be able to apply for it from my country?

It should be fine to apply from abroad, I don't see why not. I'd recommend just getting in contact with whatever place you'd want to do the diploma and asking them these questions to see what they say :) We did have one or two older people on my course, but since they were a bit older they did have to pay although idk off the top of my head how much it was. The cost might depend on where you go

Do you apply from UCAS? Apart from Kingston and Ual what other places do a foundation year?
@lolaholliday2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! You don't apply through UCAS, you apply to the places directly. I couldn't tell you what other places do foundation years by heart, but there were 3 courses in my local area and I found them through the internet or through asking my art teacher about them.

@@lolaholliday Firstly thanks for replying so soon and secondly, I can't seen to find any of these foundation diplomas on the internet... Am I searching the wrong thing?
@lolaholliday2 жыл бұрын
@@JR-uh8jm I just had a test by searching 'art foundation diploma' and then the name of my local area and the ones I knew of in my local area did come up. I also tried searching 'art foundation diploma UK' which came up with a bunch of results eg. Bristol, Bath, Canterbury, Leeds etc. Make sure you're looking for the ones that say 'foundation diploma' too and not 'foundation degree' because that's a different thing! There might just not be any very close to the area you're searching for if they're not coming up?

what should you do for a portfolio to got onto this course?
@lolaholliday4 жыл бұрын
Hi :) They generally don't expect a super high-quality portfolio for foundation courses - especially since they'll help you sort out a portfolio at the end for uni anyways (unless the one you're applying for is particularly competitive to get onto for some reason) so I'd reccomend bringing along a few pieces of schoolwork you've done that you're proud of eg. any A level work along with a few pieces of personal work that you've done outside of class to show you're really passionate about art. It's probably best to look on the website of the place offering the course and see if they have any tips there if you're not sure, or maybe drop them an e-mail if you really want to. You can always ask your current art teacher to help you out too. Since many foundation courses tend to focus on giving you the freedom to experiment with a lot of things I wouldn't worry too much about mixing in different mediums too eg. if you do mostly drawing but you wanted to show some photography or animation stuff you've done too etc. Sorry if this is a bit general but you don't really need a polished portfolio for these courses, I hope that helped?
