What is an Audiophile?!

A lot of people have a misconception on what an Audiophile is or what an Audiophile vinyl record is supposed to be. Today we're going to debunk some myths and dive in deep into what an audiophile is and what an audiophile vinyl record should be.

You know what an audiophile record is?? That’s easy, any record that sounds good to you and you enjoy! Doesn’t have to be a 150 dollar UHQRS or a MoFi one step They are overpriced releases that audiophiles think they need A 25 dollar record can be audiophile if you like it!!

💯 percent! A lot of FOMO but sometimes folks don’t want to spend the time tracking down a mint original which I also understand. It’s all up to the consumer/collector in the end

This is EXACTLY how I classify a pressing as "audiophile" quality, excellent video. Our copy of Marquee Moon arrived today, immediately cleaned, & after dinner our 11 yr old & I were knee deep in a best of 3 Chinese Checkers match rocking this Rhino reissue. I caught him head nodding 1/2 way thru side A and 1 min into the title track, he said "Dad, I like this & it sounds awesome"...the head banging, hand drum, & air guitars continued well into side b. So maybe an additional guideline for your answering your question: if you can get a Gen Z tween to acknowledge the quality of a pressing, then it is probably "audiophile" LOL...love your channel.

Stay away from colored vinyl. Ok I was waiting for something like that. Black vinyl is clear vinyl tinted black. Pink, green whatever color should not be an issue as long as the tinting process and dyes are high spec and if you are pressing high quality records all those bases should be covered.

I'm 53 y/o and have admired Television (and related) for over 30 years. As far as Marquee Moon goes, find a German red label Alsdorf pressing. This is the most balanced pressing of the several I currently own: US Butterfly, Japan green obi, KPG 2012 cut, US red.

Probably more low end on the Rhino. Not unnatural but just the right amount. Still available on their site so go grab it!

I don't think people have a misconception about what an audiophile vinyl record is. I always thought it has always been pressings that were remastered and/or remixed to take advantage of the latest technology. There are are so many releases that are OG that sound fantastic, but to me aren't audiophile. Take for example, the David Crosby album "If I Could Only Remember My Name" which I bought in 1971. Many considered it an audiophile pressing at the time. I never really considered it that, but I thought it sounded great. I guess everyone has their own opinion.

The OG headhunters is not even close to the acoustic sounds 33.3 Chad did awesome job on this record sounds phenomenal. And if you're talking about audiophfile records the mofi is much better than the original dire straits Brothers in arms. Also the Stan Ricker half speed master is great.

Hi, love your channel. I've been back into vinyl for about 2 years now. I've bought UHQR KOB and Aja. Just fantastic sounding. The nice thing is, as you point out, with all the label doing audiophile pressings, we don't necessarily need to spend a ton of money for a great sounding. You mentioned Impex. I bought their pressing of Earth Wind and Fire's "That's the Way of the World". I think it was 35.00 and sounds fantastic.
