Hi coach, I follow you from Italy! Explain this situation to me: Sometimes the batter misses the ball that is not blocked by the catcher who in turn throws it to first base. Why this situation? Thank you

Hi Alb, great question! That situation is called a “drop third strike”. When a batter has two strikes and the next pitch is thrown for a strike (which would be the third strike) - and the catcher doesn’t catch it, the batter is allowed to run to first base to try and be safe. So the catcher must pick up the ball and throw the ball to first to get the out. Basically, the catcher needs to catch the third strike - and if they don’t, the batter can run to first and if the catcher doesn’t get them out, they would be safe at first base. Hope this makes sense!
I have a question about the umpires -- I notice that calls on bases are sometimes questioned and the tape will be re-watched for a final decision. But it seems an umpire's call at the batting area is never questioned. If he calls a strike and the batter disagrees, there's no re-watching of the tape, is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. There are only certain parts of the game that can be reviewed for a second opinion. Here is a list of those for you to look at if you'd like: www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/replay-review
