I didn’t even know what an outlaw Porsche was until about a year and half ago when I bought mine and as I started understanding more about it, the more I realized my 996 was exactly that and I drive the hell out of it.

"Rico customs is the best outlaw porsche custom builder in the world" - I'm wondering how can you be so sure about them being the best. Don't get me wrong, I love what they are creating, but there is a lot of porsche custom shops and there are few that have very high quality. So why them and not any other custom shop?

Very valid question, best is subjective and you're right when you ask how I can be so certain. Truth is I can't, but I cannot deny the impact Rik & Jonas have had on me when designing my 911 project. For me they were the gem in the sand that stood out the most and for that reason they are the best in my eyes. Subjectively though maybe there are better but in my eyes they have the greatest language that is actually obtainable and not for just high level collectors.

Cars have always been race cars you can live with on a day to day basis. Modifying them to suit your driving tastes for seat of the pants, driving and handling has always been the Sports Car Enthusiasts " hobby" The running gear and chassis is where we spend our time and efforts. We understand the body is to keep the weather off you. So making it your own. Is what Sports Car Enthusiasts ownership, is all about. Tweeking, modding , and adjusting is the fun of it all. Porsche calls them outlaw, other Sports Cars are outlaws in everything else but name, they are called restonods.

too heavy not enough HP for its weight.. front suspension is better than 911 suspension. 964 engines are good for the large bore to be fitted in an early911.

Funny how the Porsche or car community community is so disjointed on this subject. I have an old family heirloom low mile 1970 911 that I have utterly performed the act of Porsche outlaw sacrilege on. I will never sell it so I figure it is my time capsule, blank canvas, and touchstone to my family. I agree with some of the negative comments but I also respect the presenter and subject of outlaws. I think it is a cool name to label our passion and sickness for messing with old potentially valuable cars. It isn't t a rich or poor thing... I remember going to a RGruppe meet where an old dirty guy in a pickup stopped by and said he had a Porsche. With skepticism we invited him to participate. The next year he at another meet he shows up in a ugly old 911. The "outlaws" helped him get it running correctly. In ALL hobbies there are different kinds of people that want to have fun. Goofy, rich, poor, arrogant, brilliant, skinny, fat, introverted..you name it. I love them all and embrace the wide array of people that all agree their Porsches are a blank canvas that should be driven. Great article... love Pelican... I am okay with the label of outlaw or idiot... whatever you think I am. My old modified 911 is a reflection of my passion... yay for all those who appreciate them.. Call us or the cars what you like 😎

I think that’s where it started but around the world I’m seeing more and more mentions of Outlaw Porsches. Even after making this video I’ve heard so many stories of what an “Outlaw Porsche” is. I think it does have some roots with Rod Emory but not it seems to be a term for those who customize their Porsches and are active drivers.

Having rallied these cars from northern Thailand to the PNW cascades, I think these cars can take a lot more abuse then a dude leaning on them. Porsches aren’t fragile like other classic car brands.

@@arciliocoelho5767 I think you’re still off the mark and being a little judgmental of someone’s character off of one sentence that you’re trying to take out of context. Based off this interaction with you I can walk away with the assumption that you are angry with the world and are someone who is critical of all small things but that would be unfair of me to judge you like that the same way you are being hypercritical to one phrase when the message is the opposite of your interpretation. It’s kind of like seeing a weed in your yard and determining the whole yard is bad. The wiser option I think would be to allow others especially those who speak other languages a little nuance and patience so you can listen and be a better man knowing patience for your fellow man.
