the statement about security companies not desiring to go to war reminded me of a historical example on another problem with such a system: the condotiery, mercenarys in medieval italy offered military services to the rich but small city states. but dying, as it turns out, is bad for business, so when another city state offered more money, they werent afraid to flip if the odds of victory were not clear, and i think it is agreeable that a government would have more money and benefits for a company than a single companie's consumer base, with the remaining militia not exactly the greatest threat for an organized force with combined arms capabilities, and support from the local company

One thing I've never heard a good answer for is how they want to keep the free market free and prevent monopolization. It's probably the most cliche question on this topic but still.
@KevinJohnson-cv2no
@KevinJohnson-cv2no 3 жыл бұрын
The key is to dismantle the belief that all monopolies are bad. It's true, Laissez-Faire practices would evolve into monopolistic markets, but in an actual Laissez-Faire economy the only monopolies that can develop are those known as "Natural Monopolies". These are 'healthy' monopolies that arise from genuinely having either a better product or cheaper price than their competitors; these are actually desirable, and the moment they stop offering the market a superior deal they are usurped from their position.
@jakman2179
@jakman2179 3 жыл бұрын
He had a video that explained some ways over here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mobIaGOeZZ6rftU . The primary response I hear given is that Monopolies require some method of enforcement and that most monopolies have only survived through the enforcement of a state. For example, a company might be able to create a local monopoly on water by daming the rivers and charging the locals above market price for it. But, for that monopoly to survive it has to either 1 be the most effective actor in that market, making it a harmless monopoly, or 2 somehow keep out competition. The second pretty much requires a state to be feasible. If they are not the first and cannot do the second then there is nothing stopping an outsider from doing stuff like trucking in additional water or innovating some other way to get the water needed and selling it under their price. This profit would allow the outsider to invest more and build up infrastructure outside of the monopoly to cover the missing demand, and cause the Monopoly to lose their monopolistic position. A monopoly might do some kind of 'cut to kill' strategy, but that means they aren't being as overcharged then. This also ignores that the people in the area have power also. They could band together and hire an outsider to truck in their water then boycott the monopolist until he lowers prices to reasonable levels. They could innovate and fine a way to circumvent the Monopoly then live without the monopoly. If a monopoly is truly terrible and unable to be dislodged by market forces, then the people are within their right to leave, depriving them of a customer and reducing profits further. The people can also just violently revolt, making them have to become even worse to support their monopoly and pretty much guaranteeing unprofitablity and that their customer base will dwindle even further.

The most negatively affected will obviously be the poor and dependents of the government which is expected when you ruin your system by creating a lot of social programs without having the culture, education and economy to sustain it. Issue is Ancap ideas fail when a single company buys out all its competitors, or merges with the major competitors. For Anarcho-Capitalist to work there needs to be a system to prevent company mergers and buy outs. Thats where things get real problematic.

Virgin Biased Knights of the ideology channel fan Vs Chad Unbiased CallMeEzekiel channel enjoyer I'm honestly surprised at how well yet simple the video explanation was. Although I do hope you revisit this and other ideology when discussing certain other topics. For example, it would be fun to see each different ideology view on, say progress or culture, how would each react and interact. As for this video, the only thing you missed is probably mentioning slightly less common but still common critiques like "but what bout mcnukes?" Or "how will Ancap society handle this niche law" Or private courts deal. I mean, how would they work? How would they interact with private security? And what happens if you say broke a rule in one private area and flee to another area that doesn't enforce this rule? Other than that, good video. Refreshing to see unbiased view of Ancaps

Since a criminal that escapes justice will do it again, crime insurance would be incentivised to investigate. Once the culprit is caught, we still have a presumption of innocence, so the matter would be taken to a court. Both sides want an arbitrator favourable to them, so their interests will meet in the middle, so they would decide to find an impartial judge.

You don't need to have big budget to portray Ancaps as decent people or atleast realise that they aren't more wacky then Ancoms. "Muh real Anarchism" yeah, Ancom is totally real Anarchism despite the fact that without the State, you quite literally can't achieve seizing the means of production. Ancaps are quite literally unable to live their principles, there are even some cases where some Libertarians fled to sea(sea steadying) and they were punished by the State... 7:40 This entire line of thought assumes not only that people are inherently rational in their decision making(Which most people are not), it also assumed that they are properly informed about possible threats at all times and ready to cohesively respond to an iminent threat at an incredibly short notice. This is simply not possible in the modern age with modern warfare and military strategy. Just take the Gulf War as an example, a military offensive that involved supplying, equipping and organizing nearly a million soldiers in a war that lasted little more than a month. To put that in perspective, if you were to have a 5-minute conversation with 3 new people(that you've never met before) every day for the rest of your life, you will have talked to around 100 000 people by the time you die. That is little more than one 9th the number of people involved in the offensive. No ragtag militia can ever reach that size, cohesion and organization; without a supply chain, training facilities and chain of command without a level of cohesion that implies a formal entity resebling a state.

It is also ridiculous to assume that those insurance companies would give you the level of protection that Ezekiel describes without those companies being either monopolies or charging you basically all of your income for their services (since it's claimed that there would be a lot of smaller competing companies). Do people forget how expensive the US army, navy and airforce are? And those companies are supposed to ACTIVELY protect ALL of their customers? The state however is just a centralized, easily corrupted monopoly on force and coercion, it lives off stolen property through taxation meanwhile without that you can either voluntarily pay a private firm for protection, and/or choose to just use self defense since there wouldn't be a state to repress your abilities to do so. And since they rely on payment for the service rather than the money being guaranteed, they are incentivized to do a good job at it along with competition to make them want to do the best they can to uphold order.

Hey, wouldn't you actually pay more in an anarcho-capitalist society instead of a Government one? Like let's say a town needs a fireman station, in an ancap world stations would pop out and compete with each other. Those competing stations still have to factor in operational costs, keeping prices relatively constant. Wouldn't that mean I would have to pay more for fireman services? In ancap, I'd have to pay a private company individually if my house were to catch on fire. But in a government society, every town member would pay a fire tax, effectively paying for the operational costs of one fire station with the least amount payment! Just to make the point, let's say that the operational costs (op) is 100$ and that there were 100 citizens in the town. In ancap, wouldn't 1 citizen have to pay 100$ (or something close to that) to ensure protection? In a government kind, every citizen would just have to pay 1$ periodically, making it cost-effective. How about do it insurance company style? Then at that point why change in the first place? It's still the same system but we've got other stations competing, make it cost-ineffective. Idk is this just one massive strawman?

I mean, becoming the State, that's to say obtaining a monopoly on force, would be in the private interest of each company, right? @@thefrenchareharlequins2743 I'm not talking about a single rogue. It'd be in the interest of every single military company to snatch power, it stands to reason that practically every single one would try to do so. My point isn't that the civilians can't fight back anyway, but that imo the proposed system would invariably devolve into either war or the creation of a State. It's a simple question of "who watches the watchmen"; who or what prevents the companies from simply taking what they want with force? Without some form of social contract, of a State, the only possible answer are either common agreement or the force of other competing groups. The first case is an impossible utopia. (Overlooking how ironical it'd be for an anarchist society to maintain order through the implied threat of violence) While in the second case you'd have an inherently paranoid, unstable, and war prone system. One where violence ensues at the slightest show of weakness, until at some point a single faction grows strong enough to end the vicious cycle of fighting and establishes a State.

I'm AnCom and a big proponent of anarchist unity, and I don't think an AnCom or AnCap state could exist alone, it's a contradiction. If people want a capitalist market they'll be forced to go without one in an AnCom society -- vice versa with AnCap. Some sort of split system where a part of the society has capitalism and a part that doesn't would ensure that no one has to be coerced into a system they don't approve of. When you consider how there's really only one major difference between the two schools of thought it's not too wild of an idea. The mutual refusal of being governed by a state would be enough to coexist in my opinion.

Some States justify taxation through other means than simple security. Taxation permits redistribution of wealth, sometimes really effectively reducing inequalities. France's Gini index goes from approx 32 in gross (world bank numbers) to 29,3 after taxation (Eurostat 2020 numbers). Some States like France also guarantee free education, free health insurance, social housing and a diversity of free or cheap services. You are going to say "but you already pay these "free" State services through your taxes !" but it depends to who you're talking to. Less than 50% of French citizens pay taxes, the others are considered too poor to pay them and only pay VAT through their consumption (and I would agree with ancaps that VAT is way too high but that's another subject). Yet these people still enjoy free education, free healthcare, unemployment revenue, minimum social revenue and all the other things. So we are stealing from one richer part of the population to give to a poorer part of it. In anarco-capitalism everyone must pay for all of the services that the State guaranteed freely to the poorest. Also, how do you know that one insurance company won't become a monopoly, de facto becoming a sort of State ? An insurance monopoly would be way worse than a liberal State, as it would not be subjected to checks and balances like liberal "democracies" are. I'm not a State-bootlicker, but this system seems only good on paper

In order to justify reducing inequality through taxation, you need to show inequality is an aggressive action. The french are a load of workshy peasants. This is one of the downsides of independent media that supporters often neglect to mention is that creators often cater to niche audiences which gives them very little wiggle room to overtly change their views. Any honest ancap will tell you that we dont amd cant know how such a fundamental change in society will effect things, or how people will react to it. Or what events might happens. so futuristic scenarios are more thought experiments of how a society could exist under these principles, more than a "this is how a post state ancap society will turn out." That's there are also different views on this. I think in reality, the decentralized nature of such a society, would mean a patchwork of various approaches and ideas to these issues more than any one solution
