Awen in the Welsh sense can't be separated from poetry and language, but what if this refers to the poetic harmony of the universe itself?

Beautiful video, thanks. I understand "Awen" much like the Latin word "anima," meaning "life force" i.e. the creative muse / inspiration drives our life force. I understand that another possible connection is to "afon" (river) which could imply that inspiration is seen as a flowing, continuous force. I have subscribed and looking forward to more content. P.S. A great, great etc. aunt of mine was Charlotte "Bertie" Guest, the translator of the Mabinogion.

I find it interesting and yet wonderfully inevitable that the YT gods brought this video to me. As an artist who seems to work in abstract symbolism, I've been drawn the the Awen symbol along with the Celtic Tree of Life. I've been contemplating doing a series of them with different coloured backgrounds. I've even considered doing bespoke/commissioned paintings. Watching you has convinced me to actually do this. I'll also be including goddess images and heart images. For whatever reason, those call to me on a daily basis. We'll see what happens. Anyway, thank you for having made this video. Well done. 💜

Do you believe that the Universe, The All, as a creator in some ways “uses” some of us to also create? That it creates via our human hands, as we are all literally connected to it down to the stardust iron in our blood? I see the universe as a type of spider (I mean that in the best possible sense). It spins reality and existence, creating and destroying it according to its own rhythms, and we are the ones who take the threads it spins and weave them into song, story, healing, grief, etc etc etc. And of course, deity often helps us with finding the pattern and obtaining the threads we need, even if we aren’t always aware of them.

I've never heard of this or Higgins, and it is an extraordinary claim to say that languages are identical, but I often think about the similarities in terms of the design of the sounds, melody and rules of the languages, and wonder if the ancient Welsh language was designed with the divinity of sounds in mind. I wouldn’t use the term Celtic, that is a derogatory term and offensive and especially so if used in reference to those who are not and never have been Celtic, which is the case with the Brython (Welsh) who are not and never have been anything to do with Celts in fact they were enemies, they are not ethnically Celts, they are not culturally Celts, their language is not Celtic, Awen is not Celtic, almost everything that is classed as Celtic is not Celtic at all.

@Penddraig7
@Penddraig7 6 күн бұрын
@@stellamariehere Ok, fair enough, I didn’t see you address it in this video so I wasn’t aware you were aware of the issue with the term Celtic. Some information you might be interested in, some context to some things I think you will find interesting and emphasises the point you were making about the importance of the language. So background on myself, I am Welsh but grew up in England and wasn’t taught Welsh and didn’t pick up any Welsh because I was not around that environment and spiritually I was always drawn to it so i have a very unconventional way in which I was connected with it which probably turned out to be a good thing because I have a very different perspective towards the language than most people and therefore had no preconceived notions about the language, I believe the language is taught wrong, it’s taught like it is English for example and that is completely wrong and starting from a foundation which diverges from the usual foundation, it has allowed me to be open minded and not constrained by what I would have been taught, it allows me to think outside the box and I believe I have cracked the key to the language and the real way it should be taught in order to properly understand it the way it was intended millennia ago. One of the things I learnt was not to trust anything Wikipedia/Wiktionary and other sources say about etymology of words etc, for example, when they say such and such word comes from such and such word in Latin meaning the word was adopted into Brythonic (Welsh) from Latin, this was rarely the case in fact it was for likely that the Latin word was derived from the Brythonic word and the beauty of Welsh is that this can be proven by reverse engineering the word and this was the key that I discovered. The Welsh language is words that are made up of syllabic root words and these syllabic root words are essentially syllabic sounds, each syllabic sound has a meaning and joining the syllabic root words creates a word which essentially is a sentence/paragraph describing something, be it an emotion, a concept, a thing, an abstract idea etc which is why many Welsh words have numerous meanings that convey these different things, it’s like showing someone who has never seen an orange before for example and asking them to explain what it is and then that explanation becomes the word for that orange, that is essentially how the Welsh words were created and how the language was developed and this meant that if someone was taught these syllabic root words, that would be all they needed to learn so if someone said something to them they could reverse engineer to word and get an understanding of what that word meant, you wouldn’t need to learn every word in the language. It’s actually really cool, it gives you an insight into the people of the day and the association of one thing with another. Sadly a lot of the meanings of words has been lost and the Welsh they teach now is a heavily stripped down and edited version of Welsh and so a lot of the beauty of the language is lost and sadly this is by design because the establishment know the importance of the Welsh language in understanding things they don’t want us to know which is a factor in why they tried to erase the language from existence and why sadly, wiktionary and modern dictionaries can’t be trusted. I am not saying everything in wiktionary is wrong but certain languages are elevated like Latin to the point where they always try to find a way to take the origin of words back to one of these elevated languages and why other languages are pushed down and categorised as “Celtic” languages for example. It’s a multifaceted situation and I don’t want to get too deep into the weeds because I will end up going off on multiple tangents, because it would be very easy to do, such is the scale of the situation. So to the point, always question if a source says such and such word derives from Latin for example, so you were talking about chanting etc and I suspect if you were to look up the word chant on wiktionary it will say that it derives from Latin and if you look up the Welsh word cant it will say that it comes from the Latin word. So this is a good example of what I was explaining up until this point. The Welsh word Cant has numerous meanings and everyone is kind of connected in a strange way and is also connected to Stonehenge and in my opinion gives us our strongest understanding of what Stonehenge was actually used for. I will break it down in the comment below and follow it up with some other comments like one about Awen and the importance of a certain river and why rivers in general had certain names.
@Penddraig7

@@stellamariehere So Cant has numerous meanings, they are 1. The number 100. 2. The outer circle, a periphery, a rim, a felloe, a hoop. 3. The wattled fence round a floor/yard, a fence surrounding a house, a surrounding wall/enclosure. 4. To descant, to sing. 5. The vault/dome of heaven. In Welsh grammar there are grammatical rules called mutations and these mutations effect certain consonants. There are 3 types of mutation, Soft, Nasal and Aspirate. The Aspirate mutation of the letter C is Ch so under certain grammatical conditions, Cant becomes Chant. The word Chant means a repeating rhythmic phrase, typically one shouted or sung in unison by a crowd. It is also a repetitive song, typically an incantation or part of a ritual. (inCANTation - a series of words said as a magic spell) Chant is also a short musical passage in two or more phrases used for singing unmetrical words; a psalm or canticle sung to such music. (CANTicle - a hymn or chant, typically with a biblical text, forming a regular part of a church service and it also means a Song of Songs.) Cant in this instance is a compound of Cân + t Can means a descant, a song -t is an old suffix which isn’t used in modern Welsh which which essentially was a suffix to form a verb from the root word. Cân is a compound of Cy + an Cy denotes a mutual act, quality or effect. A means an element or principle. How do the different meanings of the word Cant connect to Stonehenge, well the outer stone circle would be called a Cant (definition 2) and the outer stone circle at Stonehenge has a diameter of 100m (100 - Definition 1) Before the stone circle at Stonehenge there was the outer ditch which would have been a Cant (definition 2) and inside that ditch there would have been a wattled fence enclosure (definition 3) Stonehenge would have been used as a “church” and they would have chanted (definition 4) and they sang/chanted in a circle, the Welsh word for a circle is a Côr and the people in this circle (Côr) singing/chanting would have been called the Côr or Chôr (aspirate mutation) and this is where the word Choir comes from and finally, their “religion” was based heavily around the heavens, the celestial realm was extremely important to them and Stonehenge would have been I guess the equivalent of Westminster Abbey, the main “Church” the Cathedral of those who observed that “religion” and Stonehenge was essentially an observatory and looking up from inside of Stonehenge would have been the “vault” of the “Cathedral” and the vault would have been the dome of heaven, which is Cant (definition 5) I remember being able to link the word Cathedral to Welsh too but at this moment I can’t remember. Another music related term is Melody, this also derives from Welsh. The Welsh word Melodi means a dulcified state. It is Melawd + i Melawd means a collecting of honey, the state of being like honey, sweetness -i is a suffix which causes a vowel inflection in the root word and the vowel inflection of aw i o, so Melawd becomes Melod when the i is suffixed. With Melawd meaning “a collecting of honey, the state of being like honey, sweetness,” then Melodi, influenced by the -i suffix and its vowel mutation, would imply a refined or more developed form of that concept. In this context, Melodi could mean “a flowing sweetness” or “a sweet sound,” extending from the idea of honey’s smooth, pleasant qualities. This is how we get the term Melody in reference to music that is harmonised and sounds pleasant to the ear, musically satisfying, a tune, it is the music equivalent of honey, sweetness, the sweet flowing nature of pleasant sounds.

@@stellamariehere With Awen, you will probably know all of this but there might be some parts which are new to you. Awen can be split up numerous ways using Welsh which again is part of the beauty of the Welsh language. 1. Aw + en Aw means fluid; a flowing; From this root derives all words that imply fluidity or the motion or action of fluids and also immaterial qualities such as the impulse or emotion of the will, mind or soul. En means the source of life; a living principle or what is immortal; a being; a deity; a soul; a spirit, essence. 2. A + (g)wen Essentially meaning Very Blessed A in this context as a prefix is used to enhance the force of words like the use of a in arise in English Gwen is the feminine form meaning pure; white; fair; beautiful; blessed. There is also a secondary meaning to this too which is Blessed A I don’t know if you are aware that before the Brython adopted the Latin alphabet, they had their own alphabet. In this alphabet the letter  was represented as /|\ which i am sure you will recognise as very similar to the symbol of the Awen. So the blessed A is the blessed /|\ I am also sure you are probably aware of the idea of as above, so below, the mirror image of /|\ is \|/ and this was the letter Ŵ, so A represented the above and W the below. It also represents creation and destruction, life and death. In Welsh you have the diphthong AW or /|\ \|/ this is the only diphthong in Welsh that is subject to vowel inflection and the vowel that AW mutates to is the letter O as with the example i gave above with Melawd becoming Melodi. What was the pre Latin letter for Ô, well it was /|\ on top of \|/, so the above above the below and the O is a circle, a cycle, the cycle of life and death, creation and destruction, the circle of life. It doesn’t stop there, the letter W is often used at the end of words to give the sense of destruction of the root word, so for example, Du is the Welsh word for black, darkness, sable, gloomy, ink, add the letter W and you get Duw which means the destroyer of darkness and is a word that is used for God. The use of W as a way of presenting destruction is not always used in a negative way, it depends on the context. Back then, night and day were seen as battling entities, darkness was seen as a negative entity and light a positive and at night you would see the stars and the milky way etc and this was thought to be the place your spirit went to after death, your spirit would be carried up to the Milky Way and the Milky Way was the “river” that transported your soul to the afterlife and daytime (light) was when the energy and creation was given to the world hence the /|\ looking like sun rays beaming down and the \|/ looking like the energy going back up. So it wasn’t seen as the creation of light, it was seen as the destruction of darkness because darkness was what came before the light, to create light, the darkness had to be defeated. Because the moon was the “sun” during darkness, it was seen as the bringer of darkness and the sun was the bringer of light and every day, the sun and moon battle and this is one of the reasons the solstices and equinoxes were observed and why the Sun became represented in bodily form as Jesus but that’s another topic. So A as a prefix was often used to represent creation, the creation of energy and life and emotion and inspiration etc and W was used as prefix to represent death and destruction, the inverse of A. Another example of this is the word Cadw which means to keep, to preserve, to save, to guard, to look after and you are probably thinking, how does W as a destructive force apply to something that means to keep, preserve, to save etc well, Cadw minus W is Cad and Cad means a battle, so Cadw literally means to destroy a battle, battles are destructive and are the worst thing for preserving and saving things because the aim of a battle is to destroy, so like i say, it’s not always used in a negative sense, unfortunately this didn’t translate to religion, say Christianity and by Christianity i mean when it started to get used as a means of control and power etc and so this came to be a solely negative thing and the introduction of the devil, satan and the underworld being the realm of satan, but that again is another topic. So this is why Aw means fluid; flowing, because it is the combination of A and W the cycle, the continuous flowing of energy like the water cycle we get taught at school, it’s this water cycle that is often seen as how the energy falls to earth and then returns to the heavens and why water is considered sacred in some situations and why lakes for example were thought to be the portal to the otherworld, the Annwn and they reflected the heavens like a mirror, as above, so below.
@Penddraig7
@Penddraig7 6 күн бұрын
@@stellamariehere This takes us onto the subject of rivers and their involvement. AW is also the root of the Latin word Amnis and Amnis means a broad, deep flowing, rapid water; stream; torrent, river; ocean; liquid; current. It also means the flowing, flow or pouring out of a piece of writing (figuratively, of a writer) When the Latin alphabet was first adopted, the letter we use now as a W was originally the letter U and the romans used the letter V so this is how we ended up with the word Avon for a river and then later the V in Welsh became an F so the word changed from Avon to Afon. So technically it should be Awon but with the adoption of the Latin alphabet some errors occurred due to how the alphabets got muddled up, so Afon (Avon) meaning river comes from Awon which is Aw + on We have already covered Aw and its meaning. On means that rises up; that is over superior or beyond; that is continuity. So a river is the continuity of the flow of energy, the water cycle. You also have the word Dwy that is used in the appellative for many rivers and means that is; origination, cause; rule or order. The perfect example of a river is the River Dee which flows from Snowdonia to Chester to the Dee estuary. The Welsh name is Afon Dyfrdwy, the Dwy being at the end of the name. Afon we have already covered. Dyfrdwy is Dwfyr + Dwy Dwy we have covered. Dwfyr means water So Dyfrdwy means the water of the origin, the water of the cause, the water of rule/order ie the water of “God”, holy/sacred water. The River Dee (Afon Dyfrdwy) is the only river in the UK that has a Water Protection Zone order on its entire length. The word Deva comes from the Welsh word Duw which comes from the word Dyw and means God, it’s one word for God. Using the original romanised alphabet it would have been spelt Deu and the Romans depicted the U as a V so would have been written as Dev and then add the -a suffix which creates a feminine noun and you get Deva a Goddess. Deva being the goddess of the water which is the source of the Awen so she can be seen as the Goddess of Devine inspiration, Devine energy, the word Devine coming from Deva. So the River Dee is thought to be the river from which carries the Awen and so it is sacred/holy water. This is why the settlement that we now call Chester was built on the River Dee and why the Romans captured it and made it one of their main forts and named it Deva Victrix. Who is this Goddess, well some will know her as Cerridwen and some will say Dôn, represented by the constellation we know as Cassiopeia. As for the source of the River Dee, that is Dduallt in Snowdonia. In Northwest Wales, the constellations and zodiac etc are mapped out on the landscape, this is another extensive topic so won’t go into the details. Cassiopeia is mapped out on the landscape and surrounding it is the cauldron. Duallt believe it or not is the spout of the cauldron which is represented on the landscape as and is Cerridwen/Dôn’s cauldron. So the source of the river Dee is the spout of Cerridwen’s cauldron so the water that flows from the cauldron spout (the source of the river Dee) is the sacred/holy Devine water infused with the Awen from the cauldron.

i don´t get any old european associations from that word.. ahven is a fish, the perch. it has to mean something, otherwise it´s not a real pagan word! they didn´t really have the concept of spirit.. all the spirit words here are connected to material things, like bones or idols or trees.. everything had to have a real world correspondence. it could be the breath like you said... here breath is called lil or lol, it´s also when you pour water on the stones in sauna.. because steam comes out, see what i mean :) pure spirit, that´s probably christian concept.. they were like our god doesn´t need any form, we´re more advanced than you (which even that idea was taken from earlier pagan creator gods, completely hopeless). it´s the wrong kind of dualism, when you start choosing the opposites of what comes naturally. stop the material bypassing! :)

It's definitely a pagan word, it comes from Annwfn (Welsh Otherworld) and is brewed in the Cauldron by Cerridwen, and is the source of inspiration for modern druids today! The meaning is so vast, just like with many other profound spiritual words ... It means many things 🌀

It is old European & has links back to Indo European. And if you don't know the importance of Fish in spiritual lore then you've got some work to do. Egyptian, Godforce Sperm, plenty, abundance procreation, Chaldean the letter "Nun" - same as the Egyptian, also Tarot trump 13- 'Death & regeneration' + Christ in the Greco- Hebraic New testament. Brythonic: Taliesin Gaelic: Amairgen Glúingel & Fíonn... start with those. And pagan does have pure spirit why would a Germanic heathen & the Æsir or old Aryan Vedic priest bother to ward anyone or anything & to Wish, Bless-Welcome-make them "Hāl" Hæl, Heil Hail? Whole Healthy? "Wes Þú Hāl!" "Wasshail!" ⚡🙌🏻✨ Why would the Góþi & Gyþja fólk have a "Vé" -Ahls ᛉ Sacred enclosure? Why Berch ᛒ & Laguz ᛚ ?

Few points ,borders did exist between tribes which could result in violence if crossed,Awen is not pronounced as seen it is pronounced phonetically "ah Owe en "I doubt very much you did any research for this

That was rather condescending. When chanting Awen in person and in workshops, I go into the pronunciation of the letters. The borders today didn't exist back then. Feel free to attend one of my workshops.

Stella says 'Awen' as many siaradwr Cymry Cymraeg / Welsh speakers of Welsh say Awen. And as someone who speaks a bit of Welsh & went to Dosbarth Cymraeg/ Welsh study classes in a Welsh church taught by Welsh people very happily well aware of their Druidic & Pagan & Mythic heritage, including that of Taliesin & Yr Awen, I can tell you she's done fine. Her research is also a lived & living experience! There's more Awen blowing & flowing through her experience & offering here than any dry condescending geeky nonsense.
