I love to go abroad every chance I get. However, there is no good reason to go abroad without the sufficient funds, lodging, and a flight back home. Unless something really drastic happened, like you got beat up and mugged of everything you´re worth, it can be out of desperation. Even then, at least have a flight home ready to go.

Beg packers are at full forces in Thailand. Many people look at them like pest. Imagine bargaining for discount on a $0.80 bottle of water. Only to see them drinking beer and smoking cigarettes after their “work”. Seen it happened in Bangkok.

The word backpackers certaintly has NOTHINOG to do with begging. Begpacking becaume a slang term in recent history due to poor travelers begging for money to go on with their journey. So they made a word joke of "begpacking". This in unrelated with backpacking, which is a positive thing many young people must explore!!

if you don't have any money left, your embassy can probably help you go back home. if you are young enough, and fully able, you can always find a job, a la Shenmue, carrying boxes for minimum wage. I dislike these people so damn much.

Dr. Hayley , i was shocked and sorry to go through this episode . Not necessarily all human activity be judged by commercial values . The mountains of Nepal have welcomed all types of tourist and travellers . My self served over fifty years in various capacity . Its pity money has become the measures of all things. Nepal is one of the poorest country in the world . but we did have fine backpackers/travellers and they were fine people .

Thanks for the video. I personally think there's no dignity in begging. At the end of the day, if people wouldn't give them money, they wouldn't beg.

May amoebic dysentery waste away their already struggling, vegan carcasses to nothing. I wish holistic incremental unhappiness upon them. I miss the Barbary Corsairs. They'd like this lot.

How do I say this to people from the western countries that there is a different between busking and begpacking buskers? It becomes a point of contention. Only who are living in Southeast Asia can truly understand what begpacking is

A guy with an eye patch sat next to me on a bus and shamed ME for not begpacking. He said I was f'king stupid for paying bus fare. He was able to travel from Alabama with only $5 in his pocket. He seemed very proud of himself. I doubt his gross sunburn will ever go away, but I guess he likes his lifestyle. It might become some sort of... subculture one day. 😬🤢

just stumble upon your channel.. great point of view, here in Bali - Indonesia, we have problem not only with begpackers, but "digital nomads" coming and taking jobs and business from the locals under tourist visa, they became photographer, tour guides, shaman, surf teacher, even got in to hotel and vehicle rent, they have so much financial power with their currency that the local can't match, and since they didn't have proper visa, they didn't pay any income taxes to the local government, while the local have to pay taxes

Hey begpackers, come work in Australians farm and spend the money in south East Asia. At the moment it's SE asians that come and work on farms and I tell you, farmers are getting used to that.

I think i understand what begpackers are doing it for but It is irresponsible because in Asian culture, you are required. (of yourself), to give something when asked. And so, even when they have little money for themselves will still give a "penny". Ultimately the fantasy experience is good for you but not for others and it's a farse because it isn't that hard to make the money for the trip. Anyway, life goes on :)
