One thing i love about blender, besides the obvious things, is that there's always something new to learn, no matter how far you're knowledge advanced...
@CurtisHolt Жыл бұрын
That's very true, and I'm constantly impressed with the ways some of my friends are doing new and unexpected things with the different features. The more time I spend with the software, the more it feels like there is to discover.

I remember starting this software in 2.49 - the UI was rough. Then it got the facelift in 2.5, but then I realized how gigantic Blender is - it's really an all-in-one 3D software. Which is great but also quite overwhelming. So, I started with just modeling. Then basic texturing and shading so I could make a few renders. Nothing portfolio-worthy, but a start. After a couple years of regular practice, I had renders worthy for a demo reel and portfolio that earned me an animation major. I started to expand into many of the other components of Blender Curtis talks about here - animation, VFX, scripting. My portfolio improved drastically. Eventually, I landed several jobs in film and 3D animation. For new users - let yourself be okay with starting small. You'll get to your big dream projects :) let yourself take the time to be ready for them.

Appreciate seeing this overview (and THANK YOU for making chapters). The length is great. I really like the discernment between feature set and skill set - Blender and other 3D softwares are there to offer _features_ that your _skills_ can utilize to create. You can have skills in using a software overall, but it's very limited in scope and not often what recruiters look for. But for newcomers - know that we, as a community, can help you know how best to practice those skills in Blender. Then you can get to where you want to go. Blender may not close that skill gap _for_ you, but if you practice and share, you'll be able to close that skill gap yourself :)

Well done. Yes, long video, but it really gave me a great understanding of Blender's full potential. I want to use it to showcase wheels and other client products in a fun and simple way, through already created CAD files. But to decide whether or not I wanted to learn this or something else, your video made it clear that Blender is worth the time to learn for a year and see were the creative ability takes me. Thank you. 🚀

Man, I wish I had the time to watch this now(flagging it to view later) but this is probably the exact blender video that I've been looking for a nice full top down of the entire app from the point of view of someone who knows it inside and out. I came from Maya and am trying to get into blender but I fear I keep replacing what I think blender should do, with what Maya does and thus not learning what I need to about Blender. I think part of why I understand Maya well is because it was explained in a very top down way for me and this video feels like it will do the same, for me, but for Blender. ty! =D

🚀 Thanks so much for this video. I started playing around with Blender during the first lock down and have done several tutorials along with 2 paid courses. I find I’m able to make some pretty cool stuff by following along but what I’ve observed to be lacking in most cases is explanations. For example, there’s a lot of “click this, press this key, change the value to this” without explanation of specific terms used that are unknown to beginers or hobbyist. This leaves me struggling to produce anything decent unless I’m following along. You did an amazing job of explaining concepts here. Really appreciation you taking the time to do so. I’ve committed to making a lot more this year and levelling up so subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing more in future 🙌🏻

🚀Thanks for the video. I found your mind-mapping framework very helpful to understand the capabilities landscape. I am attempting to transition to Blender from Sketchup; however, I feel cursed by the radical Sketchup interface and inference methods. Perhaps my greatest personal obstacle to embracing Blender is that it seems to radically change each time I attempt to dive into it which is every 6 months, or so. I appreciate that one of Blender's strengths is its constant evolution; however, I have a hard time drinking from the waterfall.

Hi Curtis! The Making Money section at @2:20 seemed a bit confusing. It felt like the 'it depends' answer was going to lead off into an explanation of what 'it depends' could mean, but as you started your example about coming in to start animating in blender, there never seemed to be an answer to the Making Money subject and you instead led into the community section. (I'm still watching so it could be you come back to the money making subject later on! :)
@CurtisHolt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I spoke about hiring potential in that section, later in the feature presentation we talk about community elements of Blender that people tend to make money on (see material, asset library sections). Note this is an introduction to what Blender is, not making money.
