This was a video that I was wondering about for ages... my leopard gecko completely stopped during Christmas last year and I was convinced she was dead, thank god she wasn't... this is definitely a scary thing for reptile keepers to go through if they are unsure of the subject! Thanks for making this video it really explained why my reptiles slow down during winter! 😊 sorry this is such a long comment!

I would not recommend a blanket approach, it depends on the gecko. Morio worms can be lethal to animals in some circumstances. Always do research before deciding whether to remove heads or not!

I've done lots and lots of research about leopard geckos and already planning about where I'm going to get a leopard gecko, where I'm getting supplies, etc. You especially helped when when understanding what supplements and vitamins I need to use for one. I even started to write noted about leopard geckos. All I need now is to figure out a good name for one.

I just had a small panic attack, I’ve had my Leo Loki for a year now, and never fully worried about brumation because temperatures never changed near her tank But a few months ago we moved into my sister house so my bearded dragon is downstairs and my leopard gecko is upstairs in my room I’ve had my window open since we moved in and it’s started to get a little bit colder by day, but last night it was insanely cold. I usually give her a worm whenever I see her, which is usually every other day but I woke up this morning, realized how insanely cold it is and went for a little hunt to find Loki and see how she was doing I found her asleep in her hide, all good, went back to bed then started having a bunch of anxiety I was worried the cold had hurt her but like I felt bad waking her up In the end I did go check, she was mad I woke her up but she’s completely fine Now that it’s October and getting chilly, both of my lizards are getting to that age where brumation can occur and just trying to save myself a future heart attack LOL

Hi, I'm a biology teacher and I'm thinking of breeding leopard geckos in my classroom. I'm an experienced tropical fish breeder. I have 10 aquariums in my classroom and two in the lobby. My concern is vacation care. Not summer care, just vacation care. We have a full two week Christmas vacation this year. Can I leave geckos for two weeks? Would I stop feeding a week before and then just unplug the heat mat? Would they be OK with just a water bowl? As I said I'm just exploring this. I think that hatching gecko eggs in the classroom would be very interesting for the students. Thanks, Chris

Hello Leopard Gecko I love your videos and thanks to you I'm getting a gecko for Christmas I was wondering why don't you have some of your leos in the same tank?
@katyprovost380
@katyprovost380 7 жыл бұрын
Leos are generally solitary reptiles. Males shouldn't be housed together because they get aggressive with each other since they're rather territorial. Females, depending on personality and temperament, can be housed together in small numbers. This may not be permanent because they can still get testy with one another, and need to be separated at the first sign of aggression to avoid injury. It's just best for their happiness and health to be housed alone.

I just adopted a LG, which didn’t come with much background because apparently when it was surrendered there a language barrier between the previous owner. This is my first LG and I have pretty nervous with Cosmos behavior. I’ve officially had a whole week and within the week he had his first shed with me. I haven’t been able to pick him up yet so I’m still trying to gain his trust and bond with him by personally feeding him instead of just dumping live food in . I’m unsure if the previous owner ever held him so this may be all new for him. I had been pretty nervous these past few days previous to this as he hasn’t really ate. Maybe two medium size meal worms at most and is still having bowel movements, however I’m unsure if he’s drinking water. I have noticed that he seems to be sleeping on the warm side all day now. Now after watching this video I’m sure he’s in partial brumation BUT this is what is now starting to worry me. He refused the first meal worm I dusted in multi vitamin with d3, which is surprising because he usually eats the calcium dusted ones. Another thing is he only ate one that I tried to hand feed, when attempted hand feed again he refused so I dropped it and he preferred to eat it that way. Fine. So I dusted another and dropped it and he ignored it. Tried dropping another not dusted and ignored it. Is this strange to anyone or am I being a paranoid first time mom?
@fionashepley478

Jessica Aaron crickets and Dubia Roaches are much better for the main diet. What’s the warm side temperature and do you have a digital thermometer? Try a different brand of multivitamin if necessary
@jessicaaaron5311
@jessicaaaron5311 5 жыл бұрын
Fiona Shepley After discussing it in a group on Facebook I’ve decided to try another multivitamin first. Tomorrow I’ll drive over to the next town where I can purchase Dubia. I’ve only had him for a week so I’m trying out different stuff with him. It’s just a little rough since I don’t know anything from his previous owner

Heyo! So I got my leopard gecko last december. She was around 6 months old then, and she showed no signs at all of brumation. This year, though, she has stopped eating. Shes 18 months old, has a fat tail, and weighs exactly 60g. A week ago she completely ignored her crickets, and last night she ignored both superworms and wax worms, which she usually eats pretty fast. I'm a little concerned, since her latest poop was very small. She's still pretty active though, in fact a little more than usual. She walks right past the worms. Do you think she is brumating? Thank you for reading!

I am researching why, and brumation is what everyone is saying, except there’s one strange this she is doing. She isn’t slowing down at all, in fact she is more active since she’s stopped eating. She wants out and scratches at the glass now, seems restless. I was thinking maybe she is looking for a mate? i am not sure... Does anyone have any advice?

I have a few questions for you. So, I have a leopard gecko. She's a baby, but will she go through brumation? I'm pretty curious because since I did get her from Petco, she must've been born there. And if she was born inside captivity would she even know how to brumate? Or does it just run through her blood? And also you said if they do go through brumation, they rarely get up to feed. Is that why they store fat in their tails? Mostly for other reasons, but could it also be because through cold seasons food is scarce so they need resources? And every day I keep a heating lamp on for my leopard gecko, so because of the warm temperature in her tank would she not realize that the weather outside is cold? You don't have to answer all my questions, but since your an expert this is why I am asking you. :)

I have a leopard gecko who has gone to the vet twice. Rarely eats and just started pooping again. I stopped giving her big crickets and now am going to the small ones. She is juvenile and I am wondering if she is doing this.
@mellohi_kitsunee3063
@mellohi_kitsunee3063 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes large crickets can clog up the digestive track, especially in juveniles. I would continue to offer the small crickets regularly, and take them out if she does not eat them. How old is your gecko?
@lisabianchi5268

Luckily I bought little crickets and wax worms and she seems to like the wax worms she even gained weight back.
@mellohi_kitsunee3063
@mellohi_kitsunee3063 3 жыл бұрын
@@lisabianchi5268 Just make sure you don't use them for her whole diet, they are very low in nutrients. I would recommend baby dubia roaches, which are a very healthy option. An even better solution would be to offer her a mix of wax worms, crickets, and baby dubias with added supplement powders such as calcium with d3 and vitamin powder. Also how much does she weigh? She should way around 40 grams. Best of luck to you and your gecko!

Nice video as always. About the vitamins and calcium with D3, when Pisces was maybe 6 or 7 months old I found out it was a good idea to put calcium without D3 in her tank. She would go up and lick it at first but over time she stopped. I dust her food with Calcium WITH D3 in it so does that mean I should change the calcium in her tank to the one i dust her food with or leave it the way it is?? She also has this little bubble like thing under her front legs, Im nervous about this becuase its been there for about 3 days now. Have your geckos had this before?
@fionashepley478
@fionashepley478 7 жыл бұрын
Don't put calcium with d3 in the tank; your gecko would overdose. She's made a video about the bubbles. You'll also need the right amount of vitamin powder dusted on the food

Ok you know I said my female Leo Velvet was a super giant? Well she is a youngish juvenile at the moment and I not long weighed and measured her and she is 12 1/2 inches long and she weighed 167 grams. Pretty big huh? Definitely compared to my male crestie Flame who weighs 37 grams and is 6 inches long. The really puts it into perspective especially when I tell you that Flame is smaller than Velvet's tail. Wow.

Not so much since I've added in the ceramic heater. I think because it is getting quite cold, probably in some cases too cold for cresties, they may slow down a bit.

So I have a bearded dragon who is at the age that a dragon would brumate at and its the perfect time of year and everything but at first I thought it was a problem with the uvb bulb (which is the case because I've had it for a year now) so up I replaced it and my dragon was way more energetic and prior to the replacement she hadn't been eating for about 5 days and before that was only eating three dubia roaches every day so after all this I started thinking brumation but now I have no idea because she will eat fruit on occasion and is very active the only thing is she won't eat or drink and she barely lost any amount of weight so I have no clue!!!

Hi, I was wondering what temperature my leopard gecko tank should be at night during winter it is about 80°F during the day so what dose it need to be at night.....Also I am not very comfortable leaving her heat light (not UBV it is a night light red 60 W bulb) on while I am away during the day. what I have been doing is Leaving it on from 9 pm at night to 6 am in the morning is this ok or dose it need to be adjusted or completely changed hope you can respond 😄
@fionashepley478
@fionashepley478 7 жыл бұрын
80 degrees is far too low during the day, it needs to be 80 at night and 90 during the day. I highly recommend you get a heat mat instead. If you don't have one already, I suggest you get a thermostat so the temperature is always correct. If you have one of those thermometers that go on the wall, I'd get a digital one with a probe since those are inaccurate. If a heat mat doesn't provide enough heat, you can get a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) for extra heat. Hope I helped!
