Yeah same with beardies, people say "mine never have problems they always get along" and I just say yes until they don't, it's not if it will happen but when and why.
@Cordelia_Crypt3 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is from two years ago but I’m replying anyways lol. I’ve seen a lot of people especially on TikTok who claim that it’s okay to house beardies together and it makes me feel so bad for the lizards. Even females that can possibly get along shouldn’t be put together Bc they’re solitary reptiles and it could cause so many problems even if it takes a while. Every time I say something about the housing of beardies together the owner will reply basically attacking me and telling me that I’m wrong, the lizards love each other, they get along just fine, they’ve never had problems etc. and it saddens me to see that so many people probably watch those videos and think it’s actually okay to keep them together. Even if nothing has happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future and I’ll never understand why they’d even want to take those risks instead of just getting one beardie or getting separate enclosures if they really want two or more :(
@lounginglizards80437 жыл бұрын
I cannot tell you how many times I have had to tell people to NEVER house two males together, or males and females together. And on a Facebook group I follow, I posted a picture joking around saying that my one leopard gecko nips me occasionally, but takes adorable photos. It is just his personality, he has always been a bit...difficult when it comes to that. Some said, "you should put him in with one of your females". WHAT!? How is that going to solve anything?! Answer, it would create more problems...obviously. I don't have the money to save them if they get into a fight, nor do I have the time, energy or money to deal with the eggs when they ultimately do end up breeding. Not to mention the stress the male could put onto the female would essentially cause her to die. And on the note of Petco, I feel like they need to retake every year of high school biology to be qualified to sell any reptiles, or just all the animals in general.
@alysani01935 жыл бұрын
Ah yes because when an animals personality has the trait of nipping you occasionally that means it need to be in with the opposite sex because all of us have the means to care for gecko eggs, babies and find good homes for them!... what the actual fuck.

(Matter has been fixed) THIS IS URGENT! EVERYONE PLEASE LIKE THIS COMMENT SO THE CREATOR CAN SEE THIS! About a month ago my Female Leo called angel done something to her back right leg (birds eye view) and for the first few weeks she was limping and not walking on it. Every time it touched the ground it would shake and she would retract it in pain. I think she may have dislocated it as when I look at the belly side of it there is a lump which is red and swollen. It's right at the joint part of the leg where it connects to her body. I can pop it back in but it just pops back out I'm not doing it anymore as it may cause more problems. I don't know what to do. I've contacted my local supplier and I've had no reply so this community is my last hope! I think she pulled it out when she had a bad shed and now it's not getting better! Please help! Many thanks. Edit: I have written an update in the comments after 2 years :)

Halfblood You cant do anything about it. Just go to the vet (one that does know reptiles) asap. We cant see how bad it is but it sounds pretty bad. If there is no way to help her and its hurting too much it may be better to releave her from the pain before it gets inflamed and even worse...

@ChamsBams7 жыл бұрын
All geckos have to get used to their new surroundings once they've moved in, and they display many behaviors while doing so. One of which, is not eating. It can take more than a few weeks before they start eating. I have the same problem, my gecko has only been around for about 1 week already, and has only eaten about 3 or 4 crickets, when he really has supposed to have eaten about 30 or so. My gecko has just started eating a bit more frequently, and yours should do the same soon.

Geckos can do that when you first get them. First of all, they're in a brand new place entirely! Nothing is the same. What might happen as well is wherever you got him from may have fed him something else that he's more used to. Try to give him lots of variety, and get him into other things. Feed waxworms *EXTREMELY* sparingly, as they can get addictive and he'll refuse anything else.

I live in Scotland were its extremely cold most of the year, I have been using your channel as a source a lot and I know your views on lights. But to keep the tank warm during winter would it be best to resort to a light?
@czexotics74517 жыл бұрын
Its not a terrible idea to have a secondary heat source like a light, I prefer CHE's (Ceramic heat emitters) because they produce no light, so you can just keep it on all day/ night and it wont disturb their sleep. Just make sure you maintain a temperature gradient in your tank, and make sure it doesn't get over 90 degrees. Hope this helped!

I use a black light for my baby, it's not too harsh like a white or yellow bulb, I've read that the red bulbs can make them go blind cause they'll spend too much time looking at it. But the blacklight does just fine, it gets me a little extra warmth here going into winter, but it won't bother her either.

I strongly recommend separating them ASAP. They’re solitary animals and don’t benefit at all. It’s very stressful for them, even if it isn’t noticeable. Gender doesn’t matter. I’ve seen countless cases of geckos seeming fine for years, then snapping and seriously injuring or killing each other. Not worth the risks at all. Here’s an article written by someone who had two females together for a few years before they fought, which I strongly recommend reading: aminoapps.com/c/reptiles/page/item/cohabiting-leopard-geckos/D8Qg_QpxUNIM8BDlKwQwYGZQzgrJ3Q1WWV8 And here are some of the many cases I’ve seen of cohabitation going wrong: imgur.com/a/3mRE7qj

I just came across this comment but I just wanted to let you know that the top recommendations for substrate is actually just reptile carpet or paper towels instead of dirt (unless it’s a bio active enclosure). I personally don’t use reptile carpet for any of my reptiles Bc they hold a lot of bacteria but going forwards paper towels are definitely the best thing to use for the floor. The heat from heat mat gets through super well, you can change it every day to keep the cage super clean since Leo’s are highly susceptible to mouth rot if the cage isn’t clean, it’s definitely cheaper than going to buy eco earth every few weeks, if ur Leo eats too much of the dirt it could cause impaction which would require a vet visit that definitely wouldn’t be cheap, insects can’t burrow under it like they can in dirt etc. I hope this helps if u still have the little guy which I’m figuring you do Bc this comment was from 3 years ago and they can live for like 20 years lol :)

What would be a good size heat mat for a 20 gallon tank?
@oliviabarnard94707 жыл бұрын
Chinob I've got a 20 gallon (About 30in long, 11in tall, and 11 wide) tank and I use a 12 by 8 ZooMed heat mat for it. However, my tank may be different than yours. You can of course get other brands of heat mat and for the sizing you'll want to get one that's about half the size of the tank so you'll have a nice warm side with your warm hide on it. Some heat mats can be mounted on the side of the tank. Hope this helps!

At the petstore I work when we are shipped "Fancy" reptiles they will often include the morph on our shipping paperwork but the store as a whole doesn't really care what we sell it as. Generally we will even get "Fancy" Leopard geckos as our regular geckos. We call them Juveniles and they usually are, however the only difference between them and our "Fancy" Geckos is what size they come in as. I don't know if the breeder/mill we get them from sells better morphs independently or to other retailers for more money but a lot of the cool looking morphs we get are less rare or incomplete. We were sent what was labeled as a badly but it looked like one but under closer inspection, there was light spotting on its head. If I had to guess though I would just say those mills really don't care about the genetics of their animals. With Covid19 a lot of them were pressuring stores to take animals because they were backed up and had too many to keep. (At least that is what the company told us) If that's true, then my suspicions are they took no action to prevent it and have been continuing to breed. The lack of care that goes into morphs and color is just superficial though. I don't think you have to care about morphs to be a good breeder, at least not inherently. All the other issues that come along with it are internal. You see animals that come in with deformations and sickness, store level we certainly do everything we can to care for them, take them to the vet, get them their medicine but you just cant fix what is wrong internally and I have a lot of salt over who my company deals with, almost anyone who knows anything about the animals does. This is why I discourage anyone who even buys a perfectly healthy, happy animal to avoid breeding theirs. Honestly, if they have any sense they wouldn't without any background on it but I hear stories all the time from people who breed their petstore animals and end up with sick or deformed babies.

My leo loves his warm hide. Sometimes though, he goes to his cool hide. But then I take him out from his cold hide and he is freezing. Why doesn’t he go back into his warm hide if he knows he’s cold?

At petco I saw that there was a bunch of geckos in one medium sized tank, surprisingly they were all friendly though they did like to pile up on top of each other when drinking water😂

When I went to a "smart" pet store, the employee told me and my mom different amounts to feed our gecko (Tiger). He said 1 mealworm a day and 2 crickets, twice a day. My gecko is around 2 to 3 inches.

I actually have one very important question: my family and I were evacuated because of the campfire here in California so I can't keep my leopard gecko warm all the time because I'm in a motorhome. I called Ron's reptiles and he suggested that I warm up rice in a sock for temporary Heat. But here's the question: what would you suggest?

Great Video. Interestingly when it comes to dropping tails, leopard geckos are unique. This is because leopard geckos store fat and nutrients in its tail so they are less inclined to drop it. It's more of a last resort to leopard geckos than it is crested geckos or gargoyle geckos since leopard geckos are more reliant on their tails

7:10 on the subject of cohabbing females: my dad used to cohab his two females, and they never fought and both ate enough, but once one of them passed the other immediately got so much more happy and lively than id wver seen her TLDR: sometimes you can cohab 2 females without incident, but they will be happier and more likely to interact with you if they live alone
