I’ve been getting soft gel for about a year and my natural nails are quite long (equal to the size of my nail bed). I was looking at trying excel and doing it myself. Is that the strongest option or do I need to go to a hard gel?

Excel is the strongest Kokoist offers. Make sure to always use a quality high power unit, or the gel will not cure to its max potential leading to issues. Weakness, lifting, sensitivities.

So for my natural long nails I am currently using the platinum filler base; should I switch to excel builder?

If Filler Base is working well no, need to. But if you need more strength you can make the switch. Keep in mind that Excel needs a base coat underneath. Either MSB, NTB Clear, or Filler Base.
