My GreatGrandmother (I'm 70) always kept her prefered burial outfit in the bottom drawer of an old dresser, which i still have. She would sometimes find an outfit she better liked and would switch out the clothes. She would wear her previously chosen burial clothes. She was a hoot!
@bill24073 ай бұрын
Thanks Kari for modeling the dress! And the Liberace clip was hilarious. A local funeral home here had a women's line of "special clothing.' Their motto on the displays and sewn into every label was "because she liked nice things." It's wonderful to have a little sense of humor with these things 🤭

I remember my grandmother had a dress my aunt bought at the funeral home but it was actually pretty. Probably the prettiest dress she ever had. The ones you showed looked more like nightgowns.

My high school best friend, who was a tall, strong soccer player, was buried in her college soccer uniform. But barefoot - she never really liked wearing shoes, so it felt right to leave her toes free. I remember her after games just hanging out with her cleats and socks off and her feet in the grass. Her mom took a silk pillow and rubbed it with some of the dirt from her home field to put at her feet.

I've worked in the FH industry and sold very fer burial shrouds. They were available in the casket selection rooms for those who didn't want to look for something within their loved one's wardrobe. Some saw their loved ones had lost or gained weight over the years. Others didn't want to go through the trouble of shopping. For obese women, there was a staff member who did exceptional work at draping material over bodies using straight pins.

I felt so bad after my Mom died years ago as I didn't think about burial clothes. Maybe I just thought they wrapped them in some kind of cloth before burial. We didn't have a viewing obviously. My friend, who is married to the funeral director, said they have donated clothes & he probably buried her in those, though it may not have been her style. When my brother recently died, we had him cremated. Again, I didn't give thought to clothes. Didn't think it mattered since he was being cremated. He died wearing the clothes he always wore, so if he was cremated in those, it was fitting.

Mother died via auto crash in 1970. Injuries were too severe, and the funeral home would not use her clothing due to open neck and short sleeves. We had to choose a dress from their stock, high neck and long sleeves. It looked well enough, but was something she would never have worn in life.

My dad was in jeans, a plaid shirt with a ball cap, mom in a pretty dress. My mother in law bought a dress for her mom from the funeral home because she didn’t have one that matched the lining of the casket. My mom in law just recently passed and looking in her closet there was a dress with a post it note that said “ Bill, you can bury me in this” and we did. My husband was cremated and I will be too, so I will be too, so what we wear isn’t of any consequence.

My mom didn't fit into her wedding dress so she asked for it to be draped over her and buried with her. Me? I have my funeral all planned out. At first, I wanted a casket with a lining of yellow and I wanted to wear a long mint green gown of chiffon However, I have decided on a green funeral and not to be embalmed so it's going to be a short viewing. I'd still like either a mint green or a yellow chiffon dress. The casket will probably be rented instead of bought so the lining color doesn't matter.

Gosh who was it who recently passed away that was wearing some outfit/costume when buried? Maybe I'm thinking of reading a local obit. I know Boris Karloff was wearing a Dracula costume. Karl Lagerfeld was wearing his usual white/black clothing before being cremated. Rudolph Valentino was wearing a suit.

At my mother's service before it started I told the FD I found what my mother wanted on (joking of course) and can you change it? He laughed and said I had to do that before. I believe he said before the viewing he did a quick clothing change. Who was it Aretha Franklin that they dressed her differently every day of her visitation. I saw that in photo's. I'm going minimal, summer shorts and a Ralph Lauren polo shirt. I'm not planning a visitation.
