Too many people think PMP is all-important. Early in your Project Management career, if you want to go the PMI Route, CAPM is far more important. Don't rush to try and make your hours for PMP. Become a Certified Associate in Project Management and enjoy that stage of your career. New from autumn 2022: CAPM will have a new syllabus (Exam Content Outline) from early 2023. New ECO is available on PMI website. New from autumn 2020: CAPM certification holders need to earn 15 PDUs every three years to maintain the certification.

I think it is the right change. It emphasizes the principle of continuous learning - which the PMP and other PMI exams have long had. It gives you the spur to keep studying, which will help prepare you if you choose to go on to other qualifications, like the PMP.

I just passed it! Studied for 4 months. It was tough! Just remember the processes in order. Know the ITTO’s common tools and inputs. And know that the planning must go in order. For example you can’t do a cost plan without scope plan. You don’t need procurement plan to do cost plan. Cost plan comes first. I saw six cars quickly hit Carl’s rear passenger side. Integration Scope Schedule Cost Quality Human resource Communication Risk Procurement Stakeholders

I'm afraid this is outside my expertise. I don't know the pros and cons of taking the exam in different languages. So, what follows is an opinion, not a suggestion. However, assuming the exam questions and answers are the same and that the translations are sound, I wonder why you would consider not using your native language. Surely working in a language you have had to learn by study will slow you down and maybe risk introducing mistranslations? I hope someone with more experience will read this and respond. Are there other project managers in your local chapter, whom you can ask?

@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses Жыл бұрын
There is no answer to that. If you need an answer, you need to include in your question: what country? (and often what city?), what sector (and sometimes what employer?) PMI sometimes produces salary surveys and, in the UK, APM produces surveys - though not against PMI certification levels. Some of the big PM recruitment agencies in many countries will also publish data. Ask people in the location where you hope to work - and speak to agencies.

As always, you need to research the job market. It depends where you want to work, in terms of place and industry. How much do employers value CAPM? However, if they do, it is certainly an excellent certification. And PMI is widely respected around the world as well as in the US, where they are based. And, CAPM training will give you a solid grounding in PM principles. But, without knowing details of your situation, I cannot give you a smile yes or no.

If you re-read your question, you'll see how little I know about you. So, there is no way I can reasonably answer your 'should I...' question without massive generalization and a risk of being 180 degrees wrong! But, what I can say is: 1. Project Management is an excellent career with lots to commend it. There is a wide range of people and types who will enjoy it and thrive. I cannot know if you are one. Do your research. 2. Project Management jobs tend to be well paid in all parts of the world - especially once you have some good experience under your belt. Like all professions, it takes hard work to get into PM, and early jobs may be less well-paid. The salary you could achieve at the starting level depends upon where you are in the world and what sector you move into. DO your research. One thing I would add. To be a good PM, you need to be comfortable researching, learning, and formulating good questions. Get a head start by practicing this. Then ask people like me far more specific questions, with enough context to give good answers.

Saeed, the answer is always check with PMI: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm and read the CAPM handbook: www.pmi.org/-/media/pmi/documents/public/pdf/certifications/certified-associate-project-management-handbook.pdf You asked your question in Jan 2022. At the moment, PMI is clear: Use PMBOK® Guide 6th Edition for your CAPM exam preparation. However, there are very likely to be significant changes to the CAPM syllabus during the year 2022. So, keep checking. PMI commits to giving plenty of notice (6 months +). So, if you start your prep, with one set of guidance, you will be able to take your exam in confidence. But, if do fail it, there may be a chance of having to resit under a new syllabus. As always, I don't recommend planning to be one of the first to suit a new exam. So, I suggest you tart as soon as possible. You can see my recommended courses here: onlinepmcourses.com/pmi-qualifications-pdus/ And I will put my assessment of the new syllabus, when it appears, on my website.

I'm looking to gain my PMP. I have been a magazine editor for over 10 years. My next career step is to become a group editorial director overseeing teams of editor and their brands. Within my role, I manage my brand and the personnel within it. Each issue is like a project from beginning to end. I also oversee two awards projects, and direct within a team aspects of our annual conference planning and execution. During my time at various publications, I've also overseen the development of new newsletters, special issues, and website redevelopment. Does my experience qualify for pursuing and taking the PMA exam or should I pursue the CAPM first?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses Жыл бұрын
I think you mean 'Does my experience qualify for pursuing and taking the PMP exam or should I pursue the CAPM first?' On the face of it, I think you will struggle to accumulate the evidence to support the experience requirements for the PMP. And I also expect the learning will be a big ask, unless you have genuinely done projects or taken a good course. Two recommendations: 1. Download the up-to-date candidate guidance on PMP from PMI's website. Read it carefully, and assemble all your evidence. Determine whether you have a strong case or not that you can meet the requirements on full. Be honest with yourself, because PMI do conduct random audits. Only start PMP prep if you are confident. 2: CAPM is intended as an introductory level certification that has a real value in its own right. Do not think less of it. It will help you in your long term preparation for a PMP down the line. Finallly, a thought. If you did squeeze a PMP by (let's say) being generous with your experience submission and cramming for the exam, what then? Maybe you get a PMP-level job on the back of your shiny new certification. What if that job is too challenging for you because you lack the experience and deep understanding? Now, you end up stressed, unhappy, disillusioned with your career choice, and maybe even fired for cause.

@Onlinepmcourses

I'm not sure what you mean by needing to 'give CAPM'. If you want to get the CAPM certification, you can move directly to your preparation. You'll need to submit a record of 23 hours (currently) of project management education by the time you sit for the exam. But you may be able to use your coursework from your degree. You'd need to check the handbook for that. You will also need to prepare for the exam, because it is against a PMI syllabus, which may differ in detail from the way PM was taught on your course. The details you need are in the ECO and handbook. Download them from the PMI's site and study them carefully: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm

@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I certainly don't want to get between you and your parents. It seems to me you have plenty of time. CAPM is a good qualification that does not require PM experience. It does, however, require a Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent). It will be good basic knowledge, regardless of what career you follow. But it will take a lot of study over the summer - and I'd recommend a CAPM course like the PM PrepCast course (onlinepmcourses.com/pmi-qualifications-pdus/capm-exam-pm-prepcast/). There's a reason degree courses have summer breaks and studying hard all summer could impact your ability to focus on your degree in the autumn. So, there are some pros and cons. I can't know what is right for you. At 18 (ish), that's a choice for you to make.

@@Onlinepmcourses I agree, my only problem is I must admit, I have a touch of PTSD from living such a fast pace lifestyle and why I question myself about it, is often times dealing with difficult people (which is always inevitable) somewhat triggers it. I chose a career in medicine, something I spent quite a few yrs preparing for prior to retirement because although I understood it’s intensity, many of my colleagues are like minded in that our single focus is the patient, though we may disagree on a myriad of topics, our beliefs don’t bleed into our practice as can happen in other fields such as business/corporate occupations where politics are just the fabric of the workplace. I also sought honest feedback from PM’s and one who resigned from the position due to what they described as having to regularly deal with difficult people, which took down then entire process of cooperation over differing beliefs and no common ground. Long story short, it’s just a lot to contemplate. But I’m still researching.

Sharif, that all depends on where you are and what sort of companies you want to work for. You need to research the job market to find out of CAPM is valued - or even required. Or maybe the employers you would go for are more interested in other qualifications, or perhaps they don't ask for any. Until you know that, you can't make an informed choice. The qualification itself is a good one, which will give you a lot of background knowledge. But, take a look at our site for other, cheaper, non-certification options too.

I don't know the GAQM qualification, so can say nothing about it. The need to maintain CPD (or, in PMI's terms, PDUs) is a GOOG THINK. It compels you to keep learning and demonstrates both commitment and growth to any employer seeing that you have retained CAPM. Omar, you are required to have 23 hours of 'project management education'. So, what you need to assess is whether you can demonstrate that from within your course. Always start by carefully reading the CAPM handbook (download it from the PMI site). The current version would certainly allow successful completion of PM courses from a university/college program to count. So, it's not about whether you are a graduate, but what courses and how much PM content you covered in your degree.

Do you advise fresh graduate students to take the exam or we need few months of experience?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 4 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. First thing to say... PMI does not require any experience of project work or project management. So, you can start studying straight away and take the exam as soon as you are ready. But my advice is to get some experience if you can (I'll come back to that). A lot of the ideas will be unfamiliar - and the PMI's PMBOK Guide is not the easiest document to read and understand. With some experience (and some colleagues to help you), you'll find it far easier to understand the theory and put it into a real-world context. That will make studying easier and learning/retention more effective. However, some new graduates find it hard to break into project work and get some experience. So, for them, getting the CAPM qualification is one way to unlock opportunities. If that's you, then just go for it. But I'd also recommend some basic Project management training to get you started on learning in a less prescriptive and jargon-heavy way. Our courses, of course, are an option: onlinepmcourses.com/core-project-management-courses/ Especially if you like the style of these videos. If you have a limited budget, then there's a lot of free content on this KZbin channel and our website onlinepmcourses.com. I also offer bursaries if you email me with your situation. How can i complete my 23hours of training on project management?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 4 жыл бұрын
You have two basic choices - but may options within them... Choice 1 is to take a course where your 23 hours are pre-qualified by PMI. This is not a guarantee of quality, but a good indicator And it certainly does not mean you'll like the style. But it does mean that PMI recognises the content meets a minimum standard and complies with their syllabus. This can be live or self-paced training. Good examples are the PM PrepCast for CAPM (onlinepmcourses.com/pmi-qualifications-pdus/capm-exam-pm-prepcast/) or the PTCoE PMP and CAPM Exam Preparation Course (onlinepmcourses.com/project-management-certification-programs/pmp-and-capm-exam-preparation/). We are re-sellers for both of these. Choice 2 is to record experiences of all relevant learning into a learning log and self-certify with PMI. This is fine. All applications are subject to random audit. But if you've kept good records of your learning and been sensible in the time you have recorded and in ensuring that you only put relevant learning towards your 23 hours, you'll be fine. Whilst our core course programs are not optimised to cover the CAPM syllabus, they can certainly count towards your 23 hours: onlinepmcourses.com/core-project-management-courses/

@@OnlinepmcoursesThank you for your response. Are the courses recommened in the first choice are advisable for beginers with zero knowledge in project management? Thank you in advance!

 @sasideep koyya those courses are designed for new practitioners. I'd certainly recommend some basic PM videos on YT first (I'll link below) but they do not assume any knowledge. Best yet... both those courses have generous trial terms, so you can test out if the trainers' style fits your learning preferences. Two of my YT videos to watch: 1. Beginner's Guide to Project Management - Not for Idiots! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqupYWmKhLB-hac 2. Project Management Fundamentals: 40 minute Outline of the Project Management Process kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIGvcqh5iq2eibs

I want to open a store, would a CAPM be something of use for me?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would, no. You may find project management skills valuable, but you have better things to do than study for a qualification with all the extra stress. Your store, so no-one will be employing you. Unless you want the qualification... Learn your PM from a simpler, cheaper, and less stressful program. Check-out our core PM courses: onlinepmcourses.com/core-project-management-courses/ You'd probably only need the Fast-start Program - maybe the Skills Mastery.

Hello sir, I completed my MSc in analytical chemistry and having 2.5 yrs of experience in pharma industry as a research associate but after my pregnancy and health issues I am having 3 years of gap and want to restart my career.....do you think I should go for CAPM Certification to restart my career
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 3 жыл бұрын
Shraddha, thank you for your question. CAPM is an excellent qualification, but its value to you depends on so many things, like your long-term career goals, and how the PMI qualification set is viewed in the industry and country where you hope to work. If you are looking for a good, generic, predictive-focused PM training and qualification, it's a sound choice. But first see what your target employers want and expect for the roles you are likely to want to apply for. There are plenty of other ways to learn about PM - not least from our YT videos and our courses at OnlinePMCourses.com. But if a qualification is what you need/want, then first check which one is best matched to your career needs before investing the time and money to get it. Good Luck Mike

First of all thank you so much for this amazing information you did provide, Second I have question I wish you could help me? As my first degree was Pharmacist 2013-2018, then I did study post graduate one year -International business and management, I am working as distributing supervisor, do I should apply for the CAPM with my IBM one year degree or the pharmacist 5 years degree as they ask what I have degree and you can only place one degree on that section. Is it different from what country is my degree first one from Jordan, second one from Canada. Thank you !!
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Yousef. I think it is your first degree they are looking for - and it certainly matches the requirement (don't worry about the subject - as far as I know, there is no restriction). However, this is the type of question where the only absolutely reliable source of information is the PMI itself. Read the Handbook carefully and use the Questions link on the CAPM page for further advice: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm

Thank you, Morgan. I don't deliver my own course. But I have evaluated and recommend the courses provided by PM PrepCast - nanacast.com/vp/10005942/969110/ - and this does deliver the 23 contact hours you need. There are two options depending on your preferences and I know the owner/trainer personally and can vouch for his expertise. And there is a money-back guarantee if the style does not suit you. Note, I am an affiliate for the provider, who pays me a small referral fee that helps fund the free content on this channel. But I only became an affiliate after recommending their courses for many years, meeting the owner, and evaluating the content for myself.
