I use Song Select and Planning Center. I don't think I've ever had a chart out of Song Select that I haven't had to edit. The good news is I'm not starting from scratch like I used to. I'm essentially correcting and reformatting. PC gives a ton of flexibility when if for some reason a vocalist wants to change the arrangement. I also use Moises to change the keys on sound files so everyone has a rehearsal tool, in the right key, for every song. Great video....

It's also nice that if you want it in another key, you don't have to rewrite everything. It changes automatically.

The worship musician in me can’t stands song select. However, the Pro Presenter user in me loves it.

Honestly, I do our chord charts. It normally doesn't take me long at all, and most songs aren't that complex, plus if I want to do something a little different with the structure/progression to add depth/breadth, it's easy for me to do. As I watched your demonstration, I kept thinking I can knock out a chart as quick or quicker. But that's just me. As you said, some people simply can't, so your process is helpful for them.

I think you have a great technique in hearing songs/chords. Would like to request a video maybe talking about how you do that, how you enhance your ears and hear chords

Thanks for sharing chord pro lesson how to create accurate chord chart song sheets for your own use.

The problem of incorrect charts may not be the entirely the fault of SongSelect & CCLI, but that of publishers. As an independent songwriter, when I register my songs on CCLI, it up to me to input the ChordPro for my songs myself (though, CCLI always deletes all punctuation, which unfortunately obscures lyrical intent). It may be a different situation for more well known artists and more established publishers. 🤷♂️

Agree there is a problem. Almost all chord charts you get from the internet, whether professional or amateur, contain errors. And that’s before you start looking at the lead sheets, which don’t usually reflect accurately the performance they’re based on. I also do my own chord charts, but use OnSong (which can be compatible with ChordPro format). I understand that creating your own lead sheets may be an infringement of copyright though…

I like the ChordPro format because it is more compact. I can delete all those extra spaces, unnecessary labels, and increase the font size and still use the same space on the page. Might not be significant to a keyboard player whose eyes are closer to the chart than a guitar player! I run a Word macro to change the chord color to red. The readability is much improved over traditional chart. The format is very popular in ukulele groups and has been for a number of years.

Praisecharts is the same. Yes, frustrating that these pro companies get the charts wrong. Have you used multitracks chart builder?

It’s practically flawless. I think I’ve only had to fix 4 songs in my several years of use.

I used to do this all the time also. Such a pain.

Nice video. In our church, I download the PDF from song select, do the edits on adobe and upload it again. The problem is that I would have to do it again if we change the key of a song. Thanks for the video!

Does Songselect make the charts, or do the publishing companies submit them? I would assume Songselect is getting the charts and music from the artists and publishing companies when they submit their songs, but maybe I'm wrong.
@WawakGuitar9 ай бұрын
This is what I am thinking. Also there are multiple arrangements of songs.
@jordanyaden68199 ай бұрын
I believe song selects biggest problem isn’t inaccuracy as much as not creating newer arrangements of a song. This example is from the People and Songs arrangement and from what I remember I believe it’s correct with that arrangement. When Charity Gayle puts her version out there should be a new chart made for it. There’s too much money in songselect to not do that for us IMO.
@shaunreed86429 ай бұрын
Yes, people and songs is the original version I believe, and these chords match it perfectly. We do the people and songs version and the chords he talks about here just seem wrong to me.
@shaunreed86429 ай бұрын
There is another version of this song also by Charity Gayle & People & Songs. And there is also a live recording from a UPC church. The chart isn’t wrong, it just doesn’t match this version. It matches what was probably the original version. We do the other version and the chords are correct. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I’m totally with you on this but the newest version has 4.7 million views on KZbin alone whereas this older version has only 300k and is not an “official” recording. I know there are a lot of songs in the Song Select catalog but it would make more sense to provide the most current chart. I run into this problem far too often with them.
@shaunreed86429 ай бұрын
Or as another commenter mentioned, have multiple arrangements available.
@jstjohn579 ай бұрын
As a volunteer player at a small church it amazes me what is passed off as a professional chart. I typically make a Nashville sheet for myself then help the others to correct their charts. Or, I rewrite to match the song as needed
@allendunning2729 ай бұрын
In addition to the problem with Song Select and Praise Charts having wrong chords. and/or misplaced chords vis a vis the lyrics, not all worship leaders have developed a good "musical ear" to listen to a song/recording and be able to accurately identify those chord "mistakes", especially if their main experience is playing acoustic guitar while singing (in my experience over the years). Even the rhythm electric and bass can be overly dependent on the chord chart. Obviously any song can be reharmonized and be "OK", and I've heard the rationalization/excuse "we're making the song our own and don't want to sound like the original recording, which in my opinion is never a reality anyway even if that were your goal.
@WawakGuitar9 ай бұрын
My biggest gripe is when they use the first chord to tell you the key of the song. Every song doesn't start on a one.

Wouldn't it be easier to write it in the NNS language?

I’m a professional keyboardist, arranger, composer. IMO Song Select’s charts are uniformly crappy. Would it kill them to have bar lines and the occasional rhythmic hits? Also, they should notate the silly “three blind mice”-style lead lines that happen at the top of many songs. In other words, they should produce real lead sheets like I play in countless musical contexts. It would make rehearsals SO much easier and wouldn’t have to spend so much time writing in all the details that the rich/lazy people couldn’t be bothered to do. It’s time to level up!
@MichaelJohnson-tx8ou9 ай бұрын
Except they recently put the chord pro stuff behind an additional paywall…. So now you have to pay to fix their charts for them….. makes a ton of sense
