I've had New Daily Persistent Headache for 8 years and did my senior research capstone on chronic daily headaches. My NDPH subtype has both tension and migraine like qualities (it is dull/aching but can also become pulsating and be associated with noise and light sensitivity). This video did a nice job giving an overview of the CDH subtypes. It is important to always rule out secondary headache causes, especially in the craniocervical region, since problems in this region can give rise to all the CDH subtypes or at least contribute to them. Sending healing vibes to all my fellow CDH sufferers 💛

I was diagnosed with New Daily Persistent Headaches after about 3 years of constant headaches. However, I feel as though I experience at least one headache from each chronic headache category a month. It's been about 5 years now and I still haven't really identified with any diagnosis and it doesn't help that doctors so far have provided little sympathy or support. I appreciate you uploading this video as it's the first time I've ever had proper information on the condition.

I have chronic headaches and it went from being moderate - severe 24/7 to only in the afternoons. My doctor thinks it’s tension since I have anxiety, but I only got diagnosed with headaches in the past 4 months when my anxiety has been since I was 16, I’m 25 now. I want to cry most evenings when it is really bad. I want the pain to stop so I can be normal again and not have to worry if I’m going to get a bad headache when I’m not home. I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. Why can’t the pain just stop …

I’ve found that having a nice cool shower and using peppermint oil helps when it’s bad. Getting a good sleep and eating healthy help too! Try to avoid searching things on the internet too much. It makes you worry more and makes the headaches worse (I am bad for this!) I hope yours go away ❤️

Hi Zyct, thanks for your comment. This can indeed happen where an individual has signs or symptoms that correlate with multiple different types of headaches. This is because most (but not all) types of headaches and migraines can be due to a neck and brainstem related issue- therefore, many symptoms can also overlap. I hope this helps!

Thankyou for this video. I have suffered from headaches my whole life. I have been diagnosed with daily headache syndrome (Tension). Also diagnosed with chronic fatigue due to the on going nature of my headaches. Over the many years I have tried every known drug available from my neurologists and doctors. Many of them causing side affects. MRI's etc . So it still goes on. Many years ago i did have neck x-rays done which were inconclusive. Hopefully these have improved. So I find this video giving me renewed hope. I live near Brisbane so will need to make more inquiries. thankyou again.

I have been suffering daily headaches for 7 years now, they vary in area affect and intensity. I have them 6-7 days a week , mild to severe. The worst ones for me are like brain freeze, from eating ice cream to fast. These headaches have ruined my life. I live in constant depression and fight suicide constantly. I did have a neck injury in 2015. I have tried several medicines and nothing works. I can not work because of them and receive no medical or living help. These headaches are not considered a disability by my country (USA). I can not afford any more doctors and barely survive, only with the help from friends and family. However, I feel as if I'm one bad headache away from ending it all the time....

I enjoyed your video as someone who developed chronic migraine within the last year and have suffered greatly with it. When you say checking the sensitivity of the brain stem and trigeminal nerve what do you mean? As well as the upper cervical spine? I have had brain, neck and shoulder MRIs which were normal but one doctor said I could have facet issues in my neck that don't show up. It is really frustrating not having a reason for migraines to become chronic (I had maybe 2 to 3 a year prior after changing jobs.) but have been told it's common to find no reason.

Hi Batou, thanks very much for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this. You're absolutely on the right track as current research indicates that stress can be a trigger for chronic headaches but does not explain the root cause of the headaches- as not everyone will experience chronic headaches due to stress. The current understanding is that stress exacerbates the sensitivity of your nervous system which can contribute to increasing the severity of headaches. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!

I have had a headache for 2 months now. I am deeply worried that I'm stuck with this. NSAIDs don't help at all. I got a new eyeglass prescription, hoping that would help. Not even a little. It's right behind my eyes, bright light bothers me, and I've been having increasing bouts of low grade nausea too. At night it's not as bad, so I think there's a link to vision. I don't know what to do. My PCP will get me a referral on Monday to see a neurologist, but frankly I'm not all that hopeful, and it will likely take me months to see one anyway. For 40 years I suffered terribly with migraines....bad migraines. I had them on one side and it went up into my eye. The doctor tried all sorts of preventative medicines and nothing worked. They tried medications such as Imitrex 100mgs as well as I gave myself injections. No matter what, I had migraines everyday. The injections worked best. Problem was one cannot take Imitrex no more than twice a week. The pain was so excruciating I needed something everyday. So I started taking 3 ibuprofen every 3 hours. Then it got to taking 4 every 3 hours, sometimes with the imitrex. From the end of April 2022 to the end of October 2022,, I was in excruciating pain 24-7. Even the imitrex was not working so I took both imetrex and 3 ibuprofens. Because my pain was different of where it started, and I kept telling my neurologist that my pain started in the upper neck, behind the ear, I felt something was not right. I could push on a particular area behind the ear and push and get terrible pain shooting up into my eye. It felt like someone had a sharp pick jamming it into my nerve or like sometimes when you eat something terribly cold and it hits that tooth and you get piercing pan. I did some research with search words "severe pain behind the ear" and I came up with Occipital neuralgia and the description of what I was going through was right on. I saw pictures and knew it was my problem. My pain started at the top of one side of my neck, up into an area below my ear. Then it traveled up into my eye on same side. When my neurologist walked into the room at my six-month checkup, he asked how I was doing, and I told him I was in excruciating pain the entire spring into late fall. I also told him that I did not have migraines but Occipital neuralgia, and he stated that that is what he was thinking as well. He gave me medication for the pain and medication for a muscle relaxant, one each three times a day. I took one each that night and I woke up pain free, and I could even turn my neck to the left side and did not feel any swelling. It was great! I have been in pain 40 years w/o success until I mentioned Occipital neuralgia. It is a rare pain of the Occipital nerves in the back of neck, and they do not know what causes it. I am now pain free. I have to take both pills at the onset of my pain so the pain does not get ahead of me. You have no idea how great it feels to be pain free. I would put a heating pad on the side where the pain hurt. The only thing that heat did was comfort me a little. I have a few blister scars where I burned my neck. Ice....forget it. So all this time.. 40 miserable years....I did not have migraines or tension headaches. The pain never went to the front of my head or top. I have never had an actual headache. My poor husband had to deal with bursts of anger because I did not want to think. I just wanted to lay there and be a vegetable as the pain grew worse throughout the years.

@harionfather I see , I recommend working on anxiety because I think it is a big factor in these headaches. I get tension headaches very often but have decreased my pain level and frequency by working on anxiety/stress and a little neck posture. Did you get a MRI? I might get it soon for my head and neck.

Major solution seems to be escaping stress inducing situations. I suffer for three months now from tension headaches, a glowing tightning feeling, which began with neighbour trouble. And sensitivity for low frequency sounds like abnormally hard closing of windows or doors. Only thing that really seems to help are benzo medications, (valium)with the added danger of addiction. Hopefully my moving to a new house will alleviate these terrible complaints.

Hi Jerry, thanks for your questions. Generally an MRI is not required for a diagnosis of a neck and brainstem related issue- we are often able to diagnose this following a thorough physical assessment of the neck. The recommended for chronic daily headaches that are due to a neck and brainstem related issue, is with hands-on physical therapy. At our clinics, we use a medication free, non-invasive and gentle hands-on approach for treatment.

Yes its chronic headaches. It may be chronic migraines if you habe other symptoms along with the pain. Id suggest getting an appointment with a nerologist if it contenues longer than a month. And in the immediate sense talk to your gp. The longer it goes on without finding out how to help it is gonna worsen your condition possibly. Try to be as specific and descriptive when talking to either doctor. Like if it changes in pain levels what happened around that time or what did you do differently in a day. What you eat, how much sleep you get or stress your under.
@faithclarke7721
@faithclarke7721 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry i read that as two weeks lol yes definitly go to a nerologist. Dont wait like i did. I had had chronic daily headaches that i wake up with every for for 4 years straight with the occational photo migraine once or twice a year. Turned out i was having migraines that i had thought were bad headached were migraines id get about once a week and would last for several days. And my daily headaches would be at an avarage 5-7 regularly. But without having gone ti a nerologist and talking about whats going on and trying different medication that actually lessened my daily symptoms i wasnt able to figure out when my migraines started because of the constant level of moderate pain. So YES go to a nerologist or a headache specialist get yourself checked out. Things to consider, getting blood suger or blood pressure checked out, getting your brain checked out, getting your ears checked out, gettinf your hormones checked out. Idk if any of these are for sure relevent to you cause i dont know if you have other symptoms other than just a headache you might not realize are connected. But all of those things can effect what kind of headache you might have. For sure if its been going on for two years it is AT LEAST chronic daily headaches if not more.

@@dreamy315 if your having any symptoms like dizzyness ,fatigue, nausia, sensitivity to light or sound its more likely that your having migraines. If you have them often enough that it regularly makes life hard or gets in the way, go see a nerologist. Getting medicine that works can really be a life saver. It can take time though to find one that might work for you. I went through several types of medicine through months before i found one that both helped my headaches and gave me no side effects. Some medicines work but give you really uncomfortable side effects. If when your trying something out and its doing more harm then help talk to your doctor to find something that works better. Hi Athos, I'm sorry to hear that. It may be beneficial to get an MRI of your neck- this may be something to discuss in more detail with your GP. Keep in mind that MRI's may not always pick up on these changes to the first three vertebrae in your neck (as described in the video). To assess whether any changes in the first three vertebrae may be causing your headaches, you may benefit from seeing a Watson's Headache Clinician. I hope this helps, please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions.

Id be at a moderate pain level every day with the occational sever pain. Track your headaches! Try to jott down as much info you think could effect your headaches. Btw! Read my story about my pain. It was not in the front of my head, nor top or even at temples. The excruciating pain was sort of at the top of my neck, behind the ear. I could push on the spot where the pain started and I could feel the pain area like I was pushing on a nerve and it would shoot pain up into my eye. I did research myself and typed in my symptoms and came up with Occipital neuralgia. My Occipital nerves are damaged caused the pain and swelling, as I could hardly turn my head to the left. My neurologist gave me two types of medicine...one for the pain and one for the swelling. After 40 or more years of suffering with excruciating pain, 24-7, I am pain free. Good luck.
