I like when Marisha talks about gaming. She says it's an insane theory, but she's absolutely right. The biggest problem with the world today is a lack of empathy. Every single social ill we have comes down to one person not seeing another as a fellow human being, not caring about them because they don't bother putting themselves into the other person's situation. Role playing on a regular basis forces you to reach outside yourself and try to understand someone else, even if it is a fictional character. And doing that with fictional characters helps you do that with real people. We had a class when I was in grade school where we did something like that. We were given a role of someone in society (I was a black man living in poverty with a wife and 2 kids), and then we were given situations and were forced to deal with them as our character. It was powerful, something that still is with me over a quarter century later. Every tragedy like those of the past few weeks, that's the first thing I think of. I think every school should have a role play class that is just as mandatory as math or english.

cryofpaine I think my favorite part was watching Travis laugh a little like she was crazy then sorta get on board as she explained what she meant a little better

It made me smile when I first heard her say it years ago. I have been in favor of this approach to rpg's since I started in the 80's. And people have been using role-playing in more or less professional settings for about as long to help with personal development in many ways. And CR has really helped the world to wake up to this. Playing rpg's is not demonic. It's life-affirming.

Who would have guessed back in early 2nd edition times, that our niche hobby would explode on the internet? Matthew's explanation about social anxiety is very true for many people. All doen guys.

Let me guess you do/did not think this was an earth shaking interview. Also let me inform you that your assumption is untrue it was! I have a friend well to be truthful my wife has a friend that was shocked when she heard of at least 2 situations where children were removed from teams! One because they have Down syndrome and the other decades they have autism! I would ask that Mat, Maisha and Travis and the gang at G&S be told about this ASAP or sooner. In your interview they (the 2 M's and a T) told us about the therapy that d&d was being used for! I stopped KZbin and told her right away with a link to the interview. I did send a message to them via KZbin (like this) but I still would appreciate if you can tell them as well! Thanks for the interview and Thanks for the effort!
