The most difficult thing to deal with is questioning your own conclusions. Did I want to come to this conclusion because it matches my preconceived notions? That's when you really need to dig in. Social media is the enemy of this. It wants to confirm your preconceived notions. This is the greatest problem in the US today. Facebook has been called to account, and I hope that KZbin and Instagram, twitter and others are as well.

In life you learn something and forget most of the time but it does stay there, and don't go away.

Well that's what "reminding" someone of something is. When you absorb some sort of information you never fully forget it, it only takes one person or something to remind you of it

One of the more important elements of CT is the exploration of objective data on a topic. I didn't realize just how much of the "global warming/climate change" message was based on subjective information until I started to look at the actual science associated with the topic. Quite a disconnect between what the UN reports in their Assessments what we hear on the evening news or youtube. Once I actually looked at the date, it was evident that the world in not in the middle of a climate crisis. For instance, data from the National Hurricane Center in Florida revealed that hurricanes have not increased significantly in number and strength over several decades. Forest fires are burning less, not more, trees today as compared to decades ago. According to NASA the Earth has gotten greener in recent years. The key is to be and remain objective and know the sources from which you gather information.

What if the specific topic doesn’t have objective data to back up claims/bust myths?

@@Mech.01 Can you give an example of a specific topic within "climate change" for which there is no objective data/evidence? As we both know there are many.

Critical thinking is a strong antedote for confirmation bias. It allows you to avoid the traps of misinformation by analysing.

Think critically or think like a critic or think to critique
@MarkWrightPsuedo5 жыл бұрын
The word "critical" also has an academic meaning--more than the way it is generally thought of. To be "critical" is to closely examine and analyze, not for negative purposes, not to tear down, but to improve upon. Critical in that sense. A movie critic or a book critic can do that--or they can do stuff like, This hack should have never tried writing a book! This movie sucks! But this is not the kind of criticality you want for critical thinking.
