Cuba is a country of contradictions. On the other hand, the country faces significant economic challenges, with a significant portion of the population living in poverty.

The Cuban government has implemented various policies to mitigate the impact of economic challenges on its citizens. For example, the country operates a dual currency system. The CUC is primarily used in the tourist sector, while the CUP is used by locals for basic goods and services. However, this system has led to inequality in the distribution of wealth, with those working in the tourist sector receiving higher wages than those in other sectors.
What Is CUBA Like Today? Life in Cuba today is characterized by a sense of community and togetherness. Despite the economic challenges, Cubans are known for their resilience and resourcefulness. The country has a rich culture and is home to world-renowned artists, musicians, and writers.

They has a pink palace, great museums and some kind of old fashioned charm that we don't see often in Europe or the US. Be sure to watch the fading baroque buildings, painted in tropical yellows and reds. This city has centuries of history. It showcase an interesting colonial atmosphere, beautiful modern skyscrapers. I've been to Cuba 3 times. Love the Cuban people. The 3rd time there we rented a car and drove around the country. Not an easy thing to do. It's not covered by GPS, there's a lack of road signs and we were given a cartoon map. However the locals are very friendly and we would pickup hitchhikers (something we don't do in other countries). They would show us the way. They got a ride to their destination and we got directions. Win win for both parties.

Retired Canadian here. Before covid, I spent from 4 to 8 weeks in Cuba every winter (spend a winter in Toronto and you would understand) . Cuba isn't perfect but from the standpoints of safety, friendly people, and just plain fun, I prefer it to the various Florida resort areas I have also enjoyed.

@@infjintegrityvsnarcissism7295 Just as a follow up, I once again returned to Cuba for 12 weeks in Feb. through April 2024. This time I went to the resorts on the many Cuban islands of the north shore of Cuba (Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Holquin etc. The weather is a bit cooler there but still warm enough for ocean swimming. Once again, I had a great time. Beautiful, sparkling clean beaches and ocean, great people. But don't expect the luxury and food you get at Jamaica, Dominican Republic or Mexican resorts (which typically cost twice as much for Torontonians).

As a American, i visited Cuba for the first time back in 2017 or 2018 when it was open for us to visit. As a son of a Cuban father, it has been curiosity to visit my father's homeland. This video brings back memories of my visit. What is crazy, it doesn't matter a time when people share their experience of Havana, nothing has not changed. Everything still looks the exact the same. Before I visited and after. I have nothing negative to say about Cuba and its people. It was an enjoying welcome to be there. Not only see and feeling the culture but to be educated in the history is what really draws me to this county. No doubt, I would visit again if I have the opportunity to.

My father in law is Cubano. We have been there in 2020 and I was shocked how destroyed this country is. Because we have family over there we have seen so much non-touristic places and have seen so much poverty. I remember this vacation incredibly well and it regularly helps me to look past the little problems in my life. Because since then I know how hard life can be. Even as “wealthy” Germans, on many days it was not possible for us to organize food or drink. Sometimes we searched supermarkets for water for days. We usually got a phone call when something was in stock somewhere and then we had to be quick. Now I hear the stories from my father in law that things are getting worse… hard to imagine to be honest! I hope that there will be some improvement for the Cubans soon, politically and economically!

Cuba can thank the good old usa, and Kennedy, for it present condition. No one wants to be ruled, bullied and controlled by American and their private interests. They got bullied, so they looked to our enemy for support. Castro was right better to live poor and free. Than to be slaves to American interest. The slums you see here exist in every American city. Places with food deserts, poor water, over policing. America hates its own people of color, why would a cuban want that for his family. Stay free cuba, see you again soon.

Hotels had lots of security ,at that time. Bush has many snakes. ( a long story) Many Trucks driving workers to sugar fields and plantations. Service poor for tourists in some diners, difficult to interact . seem to cater to locals mostly. Tourists stuck close .Rented a Volkswagen , so got around. Cigars pretty good. as was the Beer . Many people lining up to buy old style merchandise and clothes. No would not live there. Communist life makes people think different .

Cuba and its people are unique; Yes I mean to say one-of -a-kind! I have been to Cuba and have met and befriended many Cuban people in my life, mostly in the United States. In all my years travelling, and meeting so many nationalities, I must admit, Cubans to me are a people of enormous resilience, pride. strength and integrity. Certainly not a people that feel sorry for themselves. Thats for sure. Cuban people have experienced hardship for so long that even knowing life on this island nation is not easy, Cuban people have made the best with their given circumstances and have confronted many decades with simple understanding that this my home mentality. What we see (being non Cubans) as maybe hardship is simply normalcy for everday Cubans living their life in Cuba. Cuba, the island, of course, will undoubtably change over time like everywhere else, but the people will always remain unique in their strong sense of pride a and unlimited number of god given wonderfull traits. This world of ours can learn alot from this amazing island nation.

Before 1959 Cuba was a semi feudal society with workers living lives similar to slaves. Landowners often killed peasants for whatever reason they felt like. do you have sources for this? i’m asking cause i used to believe the same but i didn’t find a way to prove that many (especially black) cubans lived as serfs or sharecroppers, etc. i have found proof that a lot of them used to live in shanty towns which doesn’t necessarily contradict or negate the possibility of them still having to pay (out of what they earned) for the tools they used to work with at the plantation for example. just haven’t found anything concrete and i haven’t really heard anything like that from locals in the city or country side (i’m cuban born and raised). don’t doubt the possibility tho 🤷🏾‍♂️

Experimentei comida mto exótica, tartaruga, cobra e crocodilo, e mto marisco !! Parou no tempo!!!
