What is Deadband in Instrumentation Engineering?

What is Deadband in Instrumentation Engineering is explained in this video. Basically, deadband or dead-band (also known as a dead zone or a neutral zone) is a band of input values in the domain of a transfer function in a control system or signal processing system where the output is zero. Deadband is the difference between the actuation point and the re- actuation point in a pressure actuation switch. How deadband affects a pressure switch is explained in this video.

Great video, although i have a question. The fenomenon you're describing, isn't it hysteresis? If we should call it deadband, shouldn't it behave something like this: Above 10bar: Active reduction of pressure Between 10 and 9,8 bar: No output signal (deadband). Less than 9,8 bar: Active increase of pressure. Thanks for clearifying.

Wow that’s great! Deadband is different from hysteresis. With hysteresis, there is no deadband and so the output is always in one direction or another. ... Deadband is the range in a process where no changes to output are made. Hysteresis is the difference in a variable depending on the direction of travel.
