The DMX universe is fascinating. I do wonder though why the advancement of the technology has mainly flatlined ever since its inception. There’s software and new controllers out there that help simplify and save time on some things but there’s still a lack of standardization on a lot of things and a refined approach towards setup that doesn’t require the hours of manual labor that go into lighting and effects. I wonder if the base technology is as effective as it gets. But it can’t be right!?

Hey there! Thanks for your comment , I see you're pondering ways to improve DMX technology, and I'd love to hear your thoughts! What changes do you think could make DMX setup and usage easier and more effective? Looking forward to your suggestions!

Could you in theory not get two DMX512 universes over a single 5 pin XLR cable, common ground and then two pins for the data pair of each universe? Obviously would would need to break it back out again before lighting fixtures.

Hi, Yes and some people have, such as Avolites on their pearl 2010 console but other people have tried sending power over pins 4 and 5 so there is no accepted standard for what to do on the 4th and 5th pins.

hi, thank you for this video! I'm not sure I understand how to determine the number of channels for each fixture. In this video, each fixture has 3 channels (i understand it's because there are only 3 functionalities = 3 colours). if I had a projector with three colours, that could move its head and that had a strobe function would each function be associated with 1 channel (resulting in 5 channels) or would they all be in the same? thank you!

Yes it would be 5 channels

can I bypass the dmx and just use the light as with a remote on off switch?
@ENTTECofficial Жыл бұрын
Hi, it depends on the lights because DMX lights require data to tell them what to do so simply turning them on will supply them with power but no data so they will remain black. These are different to household lights which don't require data, they simply turn on and off.

hello sir,i have a questions. Can I connect enttec dmx USB Pro with Grand Ma on pc software?
@ENTTECofficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. It's down to software developers to implement the DMX USB Pro into their application. Unfortunately, grand MA has not done this. A list of all applications that have support the DMX USB Pro can be found on the product page: https:www.enttec.com/sku/70304

Hi, what software do you use for this video? thanks!
@ENTTECofficial4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marilyn, and thanks for your question. The software in the video is QLC+, which is a free open source lighting program. It has its limitations but is starting to get really good now. kzbin.info has good tutorials on it if you'd like to find out more.
