I had no idea what kind of a game DOTA was nor how it was played. I watch a lot of esport on TV and tend to stop and watch when DOTA is being played. Lots of characters and fast paced commentary but never really understood much though. Thanks for clearing this up a lot and helping me understand this game that seems really fun and now it will be more entertaining on TV understanding the basics if it. Thanks dude!

Well, I just downloaded Dota2 and this video made me terrified to play. I have been sitting here for the length of the video thinking "I'm about to be hated by everyone in every game because, I will be terrible" This video helped but it was a lot of information and a bit overwhelming. Time to see whatsup with Dota2...

Dota 2 is known for having a steep learning curve because the meta game is quite complex, and there are a lot of heroes to master. That said, it's great fun, and they only way you'll ever really understand all of the ins and outs is to get stuck in and play. Luckily the game offers a mode where you can play with and against bots (you can even play bot games with any number of friends) - it will give you the opportunity to learn the ropes.

Sucked in I was, I have already played 10 hours and I do love the game. A few practice games with bots and on to the real game against people I went. i found that with a team using microphones everyone is much more affective (obviously) and brings in the teamwork aspect to the point that the game requires to win. I look forward to learning all I can and recruiting friends to play with so I may fully experience the game. I have always loved strategy games but never played anything MOBA style. Always RTS games like Halo Wars, Age of Empires, and Total War. Once you get past the first step of "whats happening" panic attack the basics of the game aren't that hard to grasp at all. The in-depth im still shaking in my boots about a bit.

At least they've added some single player tutorial missions in there now, which is nice - helps to give you an idea of how to play - and you can still play lots of bot matches to get used to heroes and how the game plays before playing online with real people.

League and Dota by the looks of it are super similar, but tbh LoL's graphics and easier mechanics are way more suited for most people, that's why it has a larger player base. Don't hate on Dota if you haven't ever played it or just like other games over it. (for all other lol fans who think this is a copy or "trash" game)

+Keyan Brown DotA was a mod of WarCraft 3, based in another game which I don't recall. The developer of the mod left its development and joined Riot to create League of Legends, then Valve picked up the developer who continued the WC3 mod and created a new version of the game but in Valve's Source engine, which didn't require WarCraft installed to be played. It's a bit late but I hope this helps.

I've played both games for a very long time, but honestly League of Legends is much more fun than Dota 2, easier to pick up too, and more popular too. Dota 2 isn't worse/better than League of Legends, because they've the same core, but I personally like the champions, the makers, and the map more than that of Dota 2.

They pretty much are. But for some reason, certain fans get really defensive if people call their game by the wrong thing. I think for most people, if someone tells you that a game is a MOBA, you know exactly what it is. ARTS normally refers to games like Diablo/Torchlight/Path of Exile as far as I knew.

+DentercoPVP DotA 2 gives you all the charaters for free, LoL you have to unlock them. LoL abilities are mostly skill shots (you fire at someone and they can dodge them), while in DotA 2 most abilities will lock onto a target once you use them on someone.

HIDRONOID LoL There certainly is skill involved. But the skill isn't aiming. It's more about timing and using the right abilities in the correct order, and trying to synergise with the rest of the team.

I like lol a hole lot more not becouse it came out erlier than dota 2 but becouse it doesnt have such a serius vibe to it. If you look at some of the characters from lol you can see that it's not just arrr I'm a bad guy so I look like I eat souls for breakfast, or Ooou I'm a good guy and I need to have good guy vibes around me and look all shiny and stuff. No, besides those standared evil look'n and good guy thing's, in lol you have some really funny look'n legends or even cute, for an instance, you have fizz whitch is a playefull trikster whitch is just a kid that likes to run around and dodge every single strong atack that you yeet at him, or lulu whitch is a small whitch, that is litirely a little girl that lives in a world off butterflyes and rainbows while casting magic and helping her alies in fights to the death, or maybe teemo,gnar,amumu, annie,heimerdinger,ivern,neeko,nunu and wilump,poppy,tristana,veigar,yuumi, ziggs and finaly zoe. All these champions look a whole lot more like kids or just cute animals with wepons and such that you can play as in a game where you fight to the death. And this is great espasally for the peaple that main these kind of characters becouse you can literaly ne the only person in that one game look'n like a baby mummy that is always sad and absolutly dominate everyone in the oposite team that is playing as some serius characters or scarrrry look'n demons and such. Basicly what I'm sayin is, in lol the characters look a whole lot more meamreble and the map aswell becouse even the dark champions in lol are playin in a light map in whitch there arent as many usles detales as there are in dota 2, while in dota 2 every character was dark serius looking and in an dark enviorment, even the map in dota 2 is highly detailed with usles things. And yes I like the consept of the one half being the good gys and the other bad guys, but it was so hard to see anything that was in the shadow or in the base of the evil guys. You do realise that all of the mechanics in Dota 2 came from the original Dota which was a mod for Warcraft 3, right? All of the heroes were from the Warcraft Lore (but had to be changed slightly in Dota 2 due to copyright with Blizzard). The original Dota mod was made in 2005 where as LoL wasn't even announced until late 2008. People should really do their homework. How can Dota copy a game that game out almost 4 years later?
