Time to Make a FAQ: Q: "I thought Element 6 was sound?" A: This theory seems to have originated with 2 Left Thumbs. He didn't go into much detail on how he arrived at this conclusion, but the argument is that Tasque Manager shouts commands, Tasque has sonic-bullet meows, and Spamton has a phone hand, therefor it's sound. I'd argue that if any bullets should be sound, it should be Sweet Cappin' Cake's music bullets, and Ambylance's attacks since Ambulance's tend to have very loud sirens, Wait shouldn't normal Spamton's "Word Bullets" attack also be sound then? I don't even. Q: Why are you calling that a staff when it's clearly a gun arm? A: It could also be a staff-arm. Or a cannon arm. Or a pencil-arm that shoots out magic lead-bullets. If none of the in-game description or dialogue addresses what something is, I'm going to be charitable and consider the multiple interpretations of what we're seeing. That's why I said "staff-like." It looks similar to a staff. It's stiff, doesn't bend, and has the same colors as mew-mew's, But it might not be a staff. A pencil isn't a sword, but in the Dark World it can be interpreted as a sword, and so, for Kris, it is. Q: Is Dog the opposite of Cat? A: Maybe? If Toby is the Creator, which makes him "God," and Cat is "demonic" this would line up. But the idea that "cat is the opposite of dog" is kind of weird when we consider Mouse and Rabbit are also Elements. If cat is the opposite of dog because dogs hate cats, is Mouse the opposite of Cat too? Is Mouse the opposite of Rabbit? Can I counter Vole-serum with Praying-Mantis DNA? Q: What if Toby just made a mistake and it's not intentional? A: See the thing about that is, elements aren't coded by enemies, they're coded by BULLETS. Which means Toby would have had to intentionally specify the element for each and every bullet one at a time, "on accident" since the default element is 0. Also there's a line of code allowing Toby to display what element the bullet is during Spamton NEO's fight specifically, so it looks to me like he put too much effort in for this to be unintentional. Q: Wait does Deal Maker actually reduce against Spamton Neo? Where's the proof? A: The thing about testing bullet damage is, you should try to have a Control variable and the Experimental variable. So my initial tests used Susie as the control, and then Kris with the Mannequin and Ralsie with the Frayed Bowties. "Defense" does also impact bullet damage so I try to keep the Defense stat of the characters the same when possible. If we give Kris a Mannequin and Deal Maker with Bounce Blade, then give Susie some Royal Pins, their defense is the same, but Kris takes 75% less damage against Spamton's bullets. Which lines up with the math because 40%+35%=75%. Therefore Deal Maker does reduce Element 6 damage. I've made the observation that Deltarune respects group theory; as you can use group theory to analyze the plot purpose of the symmetries of deltarune. Things that come in 6's represent a combination of a binary personality trait, and a tertiary personality trait, creating a sort of 2x3 chart of personalities. I believe the elements line up with this. The binary I believe is comedy or tragedy, and the tertiary how the character reacts to being forced into such a scenario- passive, latent, or aggressive. Element 6 is aggression in response to a change that brings tragedy. Here are the names I would suggest if I am to be believed: Comic + Passive: Nature&Nuture Comic + Latent: Growth&Change Comic + Aggressive: Charisma&Creative Tragic + Passive: Isolation/Depression Tragic + Latent: Obsolescence/Dementia Tragic + Aggressive: Restriction/Insanity Each character is assigned comic or tragic based on what the world has done to them. And their reaction gives the Tertiary.

This however, perfectly explains Gaster's connection with the number six- he is a character whom has been removed from the world, by his own accord so that he may observe all elements equally. If I am correct, look out for nines. Six and Nine are visually inverses, and nine is one more than the basal story structure of the eight acts of all stories. Nine thus has much symbolic meaning for being outside of a story- excluded by the nature of telling a story in the first place. I feel the obsession with 666 and gaster is a result of the Christian corpse worshippers getting their imagery into places it does not belong.

MHM and about your schoedinger's cat conclusion! A leap in logic definitely was made, but schoedinger's cat is a parable in mathematics of the issues with observation. That's why its part of our cultural lexicon. People thought it was a paradox, but only because of the frame of reference they didn't realize they were in. OH MAN AND Lewis Carol, writer of Alice in Wonderland, was very much in the circles of mathematics and physics in the 1900's. In fact, the mad hatter scene is a direct parody of the scientists at the time describing quantum field theory for the first time- people loved to make fun of it at that time, because it was so contradictory people assumed it had to be stupid. A staff would be a long stick that you shoot fireballs or magic out of. But then Megaman's arm is considered a "gun" or "cannon" so I guess maybe you don't need a trigger to be a gun...?? Objects in the Darkworld are implied to be sort of "reimaginings" of ordinary real world items. I could imagine a kid playing pretend with a staff and pretending it's an arm cannon... or just an arm that turns into a staff, or both! So uh... "confused" is probably the right word here yes. XD

Random minor note on elements; when Noelle gets over her fear of mice, the game tells you "Noelle is now immune to mice!" It's probably just a gag but knowing that "mouse" is an element, this makes me think maybe in future chapters, the mouse element will be implemented into attacks, which Noelle will have immunity to. Maybe everyone will have affinities, too? Maybe affinities that can change (possibly by doing stuff that changes your title, and with the story).

Bit of a stretch, but "cat" could be synonymous with internet (one of the most prevalent things on the internet is cat videos and memes) and colloquially, computers. A "string" is also programming terminology, so it could actually be related to programming and the inner workings of a computer -- knowing that tasques are managed by tasque manager, named after task manager. I also noticed that there's cat motif in sounds used in "welcome to the city". (sounds like meows are used) Further on that, if cats are considered antithetical to dogs, the tie to gaster could be there-- toby (the dog) is much more prevalent a character/entity in deltarune, and gaster could be his adversary in some way. But thats my personal thoughts.

Despite all of the massive cat related revelations within the past 10 hours, given the brand new information provided by the Spamton Q&A, I'm fairly certain that his element has nothing to do with Cats. According to Spamton himself, the pair is not in fact Cat/Mouse, it's Puppet/Cat. Regardless of the potential of Spamton being from Cat Petterz 2 (Which is looking more and more likely by the second), The fact that it's exclusive to his NEO form (Which is literally a puppet) means that it's probably pulling exclusively from the Puppet half.

Berdly refers to his halberd in his Second Encounter "Holy Halberd, Grant me strength!!" Which may be a game reference, but you may have a point. The word Angel seems to have a correlation to Noelle but interestingly, none of her Items have the word Holy. The only Noelle Item we have that may be connected to Holy things is the ThornRing which might be a nudge to the Crown of Thorns in the Bible (there's also that one pose of Noelle that similarly looks like crucifixion. Correct me if I'm wrong) HOWEVER when the ThornRing is combined with the PureCrystal it makes the TwistedSword. And in the Snowgrave, Berdly obviously never mentions his "Holy Halberd" duel to being serious in this battle. Just a few things I've noticed. But your Diea might still have some truth!! ^-^

Huh. Didn't know Tasque and TM's non-string-themed attacks don't deal Element 6 damage. Still, it's a fair connection to make. Cats play with string a lot. Plus, Spamton only uses Element 6 in his NEO form: when he is very obviously portrayed as a limp puppet, and even has marionette strings.

He just upgraded from being a ventriloquist dummy to a marionette, which has more movable parts. This still fits with the theory that element 6 is cat/string, because marionettes have strings, while ventriloquist dummies don't.

This may be one thing you missed, but if this ages nicely, it makes perfect sense. Toby Fox, is portrayed as the Annoying Dog. He programs Undertale and Deltarune, and can be seen creating chaos in Chapter 2. The way I see is Gaster and everything surrounding him is as though he's a glitch that shouldn't be in Undertale, a weird case. So this will almost certainly get buried, but I was thinking on this a while. I think we need to ask, instead of 'What does Spamton have to do with cats,' 'What's up with Tasque Manager?' There are a number of strange things with Tasque Manager, in particular... - She knows about Jevil. The only other person to even mention Jevil is Shawm; notably another cat who was once the court magician and thus probably someone who occupied a very similar role to Tasque Manager - Beyond that, she seems to be a deliberate counterpart to him: She will say 'Order, Order' a lot. She is something of a personification of order, to his chaos. They are both optional bosses in their respective ruler's castles (Jevil being missable, while Tasque manager being skippable if you complete her quiz.) Etc, etc. This seems unusual if Tasque Manager is just a random enemy - She is, notably, the only enemy besides Jevil to have a voice - She manipulates the battle box's shape in the Order and Order-X ACTs. This trait is shared only with Jevil, Spamton, and the King and Queen. Jevil notably manipulated the box shape in Final Chaos. - You can hack Jevil as a recruit; he is un-place-able like Tasque Manager and is these are the only recruits like this - And, of course, she and Spamton share Element 6 - I also want to point out that you can actually enrage Tasque Manager and make her become in-sparable if you defeat one of her cats with violence. This doesn't have anything to do with my theory, though Most of these are related to Jevil, not Spamton, but this is still rather suspicious. Furthermore, lets consider the stuff dummied out in the code: There's a flaming cat, there's the description of the PureCrystal, etc. Individually, these might be... particularities? But taken together, there is a very real possibility that Tasque Manager might be way more than she lets on. Lets hold that in our mind, for now... 6; especially repeating 6's, is a number that corresponds with the Devil, hence why it is associated with Gaster. Obviously, this is from 666. But lets consider the possibility that this means something and was chosen deliberately - Else it should be the number immediately after all the other current elements. The fact that is is not means that is was intentionally chosen. Thus, we might consider Element 6 to be something like 'Death' or 'Doom,' and correspond to super-bosses. If we keep this all in mind... It is very possible that there will be some way to fight Tasque Manager as a super-boss. This would be why she knows of Jevil and has parallels him and Shawm; this would be why her element is 6; this is why she is voiced, why she manipulates the battle box, and why she may or may not be tied to the Pure Crystal. And, this too, may be why there is a Tasque on fire in the game files. And as for why there are Tasques that share the element? Any fight with her will almost certainly have the Tasques with her, and the yarn and 'tasque yell' are the type of thing that could scale impressively. It's possible you would have to do a number of obtuse actions to fight her: For example, you need the Thorn Ring and the Pure Crystal. The Thorn Ring can only be kept, currently, by building towards a Snowgrave Run and then aborting it at the last moment. Which would be an incredibly chaotic act, right? But, by now I am using wild theory to justify other wild theories... To summarize: Element 6 would make a huge amount of sense if Tasque Manager ends up being a Super Boss like Spamton was. At least, I feel this would make much more sense than the next super boss being 'Mike'

To add to the Gaster theory, each speaking character has a "typer" object that types out the letters of their words. In Undertale, the "typer" used for Gaster's entry has an ID of 666. I think element 6 is Freedom/Chaos and "Cat" is probably a reference to the Cheshire Cat as you pointed out. It would be used by characters that are either in a position of authority/servitude, and characters to whom freedom/bondage are a core theme. The fact that it is called "Cat" could be considered something of a red-herring in the context of it being used for enemies with cat aesthetics.

Spamton is a rather mysterious guy. One thing that gets me is how in the snowgrave route, he knows those we have in the party and he knows what we have done, but more questions add on. How did he become neo if he knew where it was? How did he even get into neo if someone else could have helped him. How does he know the fountain? How does he know about Noelle? It still adds on to Spamton cause he is a small character but with a large mystery.

If that's at all his objective, or just, part of it, anyway. He definitely says the "three of us" have strings too, so. As for his knowledge... In the main route, he doesn't even realize Kris has actual friends, but in the Weird Route he sells us the ThornRing once Noelle is strong enough, and I guess either observes us or like, senses us somehow as we freeze more and more enemies, then he probably just sees uh, us around before stopping us at the fountain. Why he knows about the fountain... Who knows, really. Some characters just seem to sorta know stuff, though maybe he learned it from phone calls. He even knows something about the Knight, which is interesting.

My first thought upon seeing that tasque on fire is it could be related to fireshock, a spell noelle mentions when talking with rudy at the hospital. Iceshock is the spell that freezes enemies so a tasque being on fire immediately makes me think maybe fireshock was also going to be a possible spell a character could use.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that in programming, the type of data that registers words and sentences (as opposed to numbers and integers) are precisely called 'strings'. i think the Uncertainty option might be most likely. like you said, it would be a reference to schrodinger's cat, and would fit spamton neo/gaster's nature. that number 6 really is something we can't ignore here. (and, how fitting it would be if the element of Uncertainty never got named or pointed out in-game?) the only other idea i have for what it represents is _maybe_ Control? tasque manager obviously controls her tasques, and spamton NEO is the form in which he gains some control/freedom. plus in this case it would make sense that normal spamton doesn't use element 6, because he doesn't have control yet. though, this idea still doesn't explain the frayed bowtie and mannequin, not to mention it would be pretty redundant with the element Order. the "demonic number" idea you brought up is really interesting. the idea of it being the Demonic element is probably off the table - because tasque/TM have it, and jevil doesn't - but especially with the number 6, i think it's still worth considering that the "demonic" idea could be related in some way. it'd also have some _very, very_ interesting implications about what Heaven could be, though i don't have any solid theories there. of course, i think it's also possible that toby didn't even intend these characters to have the same element in the first place. maybe element 6 was supposed to be spamton's element (with his attacks, the frayed bowtie, mannequin, and dealmaker) and then tasque/TM ended up with the element by mistake. if it _was_ meant to be just spamton's element, then that opens up the possibility of it being something like Puppet, or Demonic, or Spam, or "Gaster"... but i mean we can't really count on that possibility in the first place. so yeah i'd agree that we just don't have enough info right now. it's still fun to speculate though :) (by the way can i just say i love your videos? like they're just text to speech but you put so much emotion in them somehow ghjkdf. and it's a lot of fun to hear all these theories and facts!)

@@HalfBreadChaos Hmm, maybe both Tasques & Tasque Manager share the element because of some programming limitation where you can only have one element per attack round, & when they're together they all send out attacks? So maybe it would crash unless all entities used the same element? But rewriting the implementation to properly parse mixed element enemies, was too much work and time-consuming, thus it was easier to just give the cats matching elements? That could also be why the other elements are unassigned, because many of the enemies will fight in mixed groups throughout the game. Thus, the system conundrum I'm guessing may exist, would just crash all the time, and making everyone the same element would be pointless. So, he opted to just not use the element system for the time being. So, maybe the Tasques & Manager were kind of a test for the system, which showed its shortcomings. They were just left in their last tested state for convenience. And Spamton having that element is simply because the test cats showed that the system COULD work, so you could use special defense against him. But the system needs an overhaul so it can someday work as intended, when types are mixed in battle. (Totally just guessing here, I'm not a programmer, but it feels like the kind of exasperated way I've ended up having to deal with what little programming I HAVE done, when I'd make a complex script only to realize I'd have to totally rewrite it for it to properly deal with extra variables, heh...)

someone probably already mentioned it but think about how spamton’s whole design is a rip off version of swatch and his neo form was stolen off some lightener’s drawing. even in his prime, according to merch, he sports a red suit with a yellow tie which bears an uncanny resemblance to what mettaton wore during his news segment. The reason spamton neo has the Element 6 vs him normally, to me, is that Element 6 is directly related to power or control. Spamton only has those strings in his neo form. He, in a sense, lost that freedom he seeked. He was free, but once he obtained his power, he was truly a puppet on strings. The question is why the Task and Taskquce Manager have that same Element. My theory is that they aren't as much cats as they are tasks, or programs. Task Manager, on a computer, is a center for accessing, shutting down and controlling tasks, which are processes or programs on a computer, such as a service host, Google Chrome, etc. These tasks are programmed to do specific things, and can be altered based on actions taken by the task manager. As the personification of these in the dark world, it makes sense why theyd relate to power and control, as they're processes and a Manager for these. Spamton might also share this after he becomes Neo because you listened to his spam, and caused a virus attack on your computer. Spamton: Spam-ton. He's spam sent in an email with malicious effects when used. They are a personification of a type of malware, sent in mass. He interests Kris, you get roped in because of his character. Once you give it what it wants, it has actual tangible power on your computer. This would mean that they share this Element due to being beings that have control or power over a computer. Why is it limited? The host for spamton. The actual strings show up on the machine. Maybe spamton before he's in the machine also isn't making his own choices, maybe he was taken over, but that machine is truly freedom taking. Not just his mind, but his entire body is controlled. He's just a voice in a soul. "Why doesn't queen have that element, then?" Queen does not have Element 6 due to their nature being different. Queen and King are both cards, the Queen and King of Spades. Queen is a robot for some reason, but they still belong in a deck of cards, like the kings in the cages of the castle town basement. Queen doesn't control the computer, they control the computers controllers through power and royalty. They're similar to a computers user, who can get Task manager to close tasks. Some of these aren't granted, and require messing with the computer, making it slightly restricted. Service hosts and official software pre installed needs to run. They don't have power or control, nor attempt to. The Queen's goal is to make everyone smile, and was blindly following the knight to do so. They aren't an evil ruler, they're not power hungry, they're just trying to achieve a goal. Could also be wrong about this, since power/control is a common theme in deltarune, and we only have 2 chapters. Could also be power related to computers or control over computers, might be some sort of other random thing linking them. Thats just my theory right now, but it could always turn out to just be the lack of implementation at this moment in time.

Mad Dummy's motif also plays at 1:47 of BIG SHOT. It's also an interesting observation that the body is eerily similar to Mettaton NEO, who is a lightner and ghost species character like Mew Mew/Mad Dummy. I think it's reasonable to think that Spamton NEO uses Mettaton NEO's body, as somewhat hinted as the change in head shape when in the pacifist route fight.

I feel like this recontextualises the Queen as an extension of Noelle, Noelle taking care of her pet cats. The lore seems to imply that the Darkners actually have sentience even when the Dark Worlds themselves do not exist. Even in Chapter 1, they talk about past events that happened before the Dark Worlds were even opened. We can also see that separate Dark Worlds can connect to each other in Chapter 1, as Kris and Ralsei travel from the school closet's world to the old classroom's world without ever going to the Light World. The reason why Ralsei can survive in other Dark Worlds is because he's from the original Dark World in the school closet, which is formed out of the fountain of pure darkness. This is also why all the Darkners from all the other Dark Worlds can survive and be revived in the school closet, because it's made of the most pure darkness.

One of the underlying facts that classical physics has been based upon is that the universe is deterministic. And how Mad Dummy later went on to become Mad Mew-Mew? (Probably partly because of Alphys's obsession with Mew Mew Kissy Cutie) Maybe the "element cat" is another suggestion that either Alphys or Happstablook was the person who designed the image of the NEO body in the computer lab, or MAYBE Spamton is not Dark World Happstablook, but Dark World Mad Dummy/Mad Mew-Mew who has co-opted the body intended for Happstablook? On the one hand, maybe Alphys's obsession with cats carries over into her design inspiration for everything in some small degree--leading her creations to have the "cat" element. Although I don't know why Spamton is related to a "cat" element while in Neo form. I do believe that the form is based on Mew Mew. Like mentioned, we know Mad Dummy (Mad ghost? Madstablook?) is in deltarune and is confirmed related to Mettaton. Meaning that it's possible that they just watch the show together and maybe Mettaton loved Mew's design. Thus making the body, similar to making a self insert sonic OC. Plus this also explains why you can hear Mad Dummy's theme for a brief second in "BIG SHOT". Another thing I want to bring up is how Mad Dummy and Mad Mew is known for having immune to attacks until they're happy, similar to how Spamton Neo having a high defense during the snowgrave route. Point being, Mettaton may have been inspired by the shows his cousin watches and decides to make his dream body based on what he saw and more. (This is now my headcanons and no one can stop me. Thank you for opening my eyes.)

Honestly I wish all video game theories (or literary analysis in general) videos were like this one, presenting more than just one possible explanation, studying the source material (game code), and trying to disprove your own ideas before taking any conclusions; most public figures who like to speculate on this type of stuff (aka click bait KZbinrs like Game Theories) think their theory is already right "a priori" and then go search only for the evidence that supports their views. After some thought, i think i get why the Dealmaker is element 6 now, if the theory is correct, it would imply that Spamton was literally controlled by these glasses, by unseen strings from another unseen higher up... It would explain the weird static and censors Spamton sometimes gets when speaking, and the sudden cries for help, it's all in his struggle to escape his strings, as implied by his bossfights. Not only that, remember that weird smile in the basement and TV..? Either he is being controlled too, having some authority over Spamton potentially, or/and he's the one that *MADE* said glasses. He (maybe) was the one that tried to kill you at the teacup ride, for thwarting his plans. Nowhere else in chapter 2 have we seen that kind of flurry of attacks from anyone, especially on the teacup ride, and we could maybe potentially see more of it in the future. and Spamton's last warning was to say to not trust that man on TV, as his last warning to you before you'll be controlled by his strings aswell instead of only just the players ''strings''

Love the teacup ride theory being some sort of way to assassinate us. The damn thing was just as hard as every damn boss in the entire game so far. But it is a bit of a stretch since the teacup ride seems to be more of some mechanism than someone’s attacks. Also if Dealmaker was the one controlling Spamton, what about the puppet scarf? Another interesting thing is that the glasses might not even have been part of his brand back when he was famous and he might have only gotten them recently. He had a typical Addison face in the big shot autos poster. He had the different black hair that contrasted the addison’s same colored hair to the body. But not the multicolored glasses. The glasses also look like they’re part of his body/head instead of being worn.

Now this is a pretty insane theory, but hear me out. The running theory is that Gadter influenced both Jevil and Spamton (for Jevil, the man he happened to meet that drove him insane, for Spamton, the guy on the other end of the garbage noise call). 6 is gaster's number and it is the number of the dmg type. When you have jevil items equipped in the Tasque Manager fight, she comments on it. Tasques are her subordinates. Thus, it might just barely support that dmg type 6 is in fact gaster somehow. Schizo thread over, just a funny thought I had. Edit: Just got a little further in the video, I bet the tasques on fire are preparation for a toriel snowgrave route in chapter 3. My first thought with the unused "Tasque on fire" sprites is that it's part of some kind of scrapped ACT to defeat them. Tasques are obviously meant to be computer tasks, or programs. So them bursting into flame would be a visual representation of making the program crash somehow.

@@josephb.4640 My alternate theory is that he’s just a unique white Addison that shrunk from being thrown in the acid for impersonating swatch to go in the basement and get the NEO body. But this is good too. This explains why the Addisons were so unreasonably bitter. Imagine this little living freak mannequin that might have come out of nowhere, or from an accident, starts becoming way better at your job than you all of a sudden. This abnormality that just came in your life. And them brags about it. Even though his success was not even from his own ability, but dependent entirely on some guy on the phone. Going by this theory, the addisons might have wanted Spamton to share his success with them, help boost their own sales with a little help from him. As a kind gesture, or to pay them back for the kindness they showed by taking care of him, or helping him. They took him like he’s family. But Spamton let the success get in over his head and made him greedy. And Spamton refused to do that. Or maybe, the one on the phone told him not to do it. And forced him to keep quiet about the agreement. This weirdo you helped blend in, what you thought was family, just ditched you without a second thought when he reached the top of the world. Not even offering a hand to you at the bottom. I understand why the addisons feel that way now. “Why does he deserve this?” Someone who makes a living out selling should know the feeling of not getting paid back too well. I think its more than just jealousy from them. Eventually they grew to get past these negative feelings for him. They might have grown sympathy for him again when they found out his situation in the mansion was getting bad. They might have even expected it since Spamton’s success relied on some phone guy. In the back of their mind the phone person was always shady. Even more so when they checked on Spamton. The one that caused Spamton to change. The Blue Addison completely grew to forgive him when they found news of him getting kicked out of the mansion. Hoping that he could be with his friend again. But he arrived too late. And we know the garbage noise story. They couldn’t find Spamton. They gave up and moved on with their lives. The Blue addison with the mannequin says, “Spamton? We don’t talk about him.” It might not be because he hates spamton. But because the unresolved incident might have hurt them a lot. They could also be afraid of whatever sketchy shit Spamton got himself involved in. Because of the praying thing. Bringing up Spamton might cause the addisons to feel the bad mix of emotions again. Which is bad for their job they need to focus on.
