I've been a devout weather watcher for years, and use the weather/climate as a theme in my advanced language classes from grades 6 to 9. I found your channel and introduced it into my lesson plans particularly when COVID hit schools here and we all scrambled to utilize online teaching more thoroughly (thanks Google, you saved many an education system!). What's my point here? Just a massive THANK YOU for your channel, it's helped my classes to be even more enthralling.

@michaeldeierhoi40962 жыл бұрын
That's about the best explanation I have heard yet for the ENSO phenomena. This makes it easier to explain to someone else. Your explanation implies that the warm water mass in the southern Pacific will tend toward the Eastern side of the Pacific. And only the strong trade winds can push it west. The weak trade winds allow the warm mass of water to move back east. This means that the movement of this warm water in the south Pacific moves secondary to the Trade Winds or their absence. So the cyclical change in the trade winds causes the oscillation in the south Pacific.

I can see the amount of effort you have put in making such crisp content. You are actually creating a difference in society, I wish all teachers in Indian schools were like this, seems most of them are just concerned for covering syllabus rather than giving quality education.
@stevengill17363 жыл бұрын
I believe this picture of ENSO has changed lately due to the warming of the Arctic and how it is affecting the jet stream, guess we'll see this winter. (At least in the pacific northwest). Where I live in northern California, a la niña event can go either way - while in the southwest la niña almost always means drought, it can bring either more or less rain than usual here. But with these warming events like last summer, who knows?

any wind is formed by moving of air from high to low pressure. in some years ( el nino year), theres more heating of mid pacific and south america side by the sun, hence warm air rises, low pressure is created. low pressure near peru and mid pacific means no air flowing (trade winds) towards australia side
