Mr. H explains what is meant by the term "equilibrium" and shows how to conduct a mathematical analysis of the force vectors to determine if an object is at equilibrium. Several examples are thoroughly explained.

Dear Mr H, In equilibrium topic of same chapter on the website, after the frame example we have a conclusion that as the " Angle with the horizontal increases, tension force decreases" but we also read in the same chapter that " Increasing horizontal angle decreases the effect of horizontal force". Please advise.

The vertical component of the tension force will not be affected by the angle. The vertical component is related to the weight in the number of angled forces. The horizontal component contributes to the overall tension force and does depend upon the angle. So as the angle increases, the horizontal component decreases and its contribution to the overall tension diminishes. This means that increasing the angle will cause the tension to decrease.

so if the gravity changes, the tension changes too? so the same set of cables would balance on the Moon too?
