I guess an ethnocentrist just prefers his own people and would, for instance like his country, as well as every other country, to only be inhabited by his native people, but doesn't otherwise have any ill will towards other.. While a supremacist seeks to dominate and control other races and cultures because of the belief his race is superior

@@lorraine-y3l lol ok.. but why is it controversial that whites are superior to africans? there is literally a 20+ IQ gap average, even when adjusting for socioeconomic factors. in 2021 in the US blacks commited 56% of all murders despite being only 12.6% of the population. but I guess that's not being inferior, just different.. I guess I'm just a caveman.

thats part of it, but the definition focuses on how one thinks their culture or way of life is superior to others. If your just focusing on your ethnicity and culture your missing the definition of ethnocentrism

Why ethnocentrism is still important?

I'd say it's still important because many recent as well as old studies show that the higher the ethnocentrism is in a society, corresponds to higher rates of self-reported feeling of safety, unity, community and being "part of something bigger".. Of course a single individual might not be an outward racist or whatnot, but when we're talking large population sizes, these feelings of unrest and distrust start to appear.. Just ask people in most EU countries now that they're more multicultural, they feel much more unsafe.. Of course immigration has been happening so slow that many people grow up in this environment which only reinforces these feelings.. So I guess it's important if you want safe communities/countries where people like and care about each other
