Been reading “Stolen Focus” and Johann has a whole chapter going over Mihaly and his time spent with him discussing Flow. Great video!

What I got from this is Flow state is just kind of like “nirvana,” or like if you are a pristine basketball player on a team and you are up against an equally skilled team, you love competition, you can feel this “flow state” during this game. Hyperfocus seems to me like a concentrated(uncontrolled)version of this flow state. I think the ability to control hyperfocus is something I’d like to think about, where as I may be able to initiate it a lot more frequently now, I think hyperfocusing on a long-term goal can help you stay extremely focused on something while being aware of your surroundings, kind of like a pseudo flow-state. I have adhd and might just be rambling lol, thanks for the video was interesting

Hyperfocus for me might start out as a flow state but if I stay in it for too long it becomes a torturous canyon that is hard to escape. I won't stop to eat or drink or use the bathroom sometimes. But I have autism as well as ADHD. Now I often want to avoid hyperfocus because even though it is enjoyable at first it becomes torture. Unfortunately I avoid many things now. Both chores and things I like such as my hobbies.
