This anime its the new standard level of the meaning of "masterpiece".

I feel like the people saying that the show was bad because the pacing was slow just weren't into slower stories. I found it to be an extremely enjoyable watch to just sit there and take it all in instead of, for example, watching one punch man to feel the adrenaline of seeing the bald man one-shot another cocky antagonist. it's up to personal preference in the end.
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think you're right! But all of those people who couldn't get through the "boring" first half probably never got to Frieren one shot her own enemies, lol.

I actually liked the much slower, more tender first half of the series than the faster paced second half. This whole show is amazing though, it feels more mature in a way. It has that confidence in it's character writing and worldbuilding that it just lets itself linger.
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean! The tone definitely shifts once they start taking their exam, lol. But the show does linger, which is really cool and I feel like a lot of shows could learn that important lesson from Frieren. It's okay to just relax and breathe every now and again in the story, haha.

other thing i love is how the focus is often not on frieren, just like saitama she is the last resort in a lot of situations so that allows secondary characters to be more developed. I also like to be thrown in pre-existing world and it evolves at a human pace so frieren have to descover it i think the best of its genre (with recency bias and i have not seen every anime of cource)
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
You know, I hadn't compared her to Saitama, but that's a great comparison! You're right, she definitely is the last line of defense a lot of the time. And I liked how she had to discover the world at a human's pace as well. And I don't think you're alone in thinking that, I was just surprised by how many people didn't seem to enjoy the story.

I have been seeing a lot of negativity around Frieren from people who were told they had to watch it, and I think it's important to realize that there is no such thing as a perfect show. Nothing will appeal to everyone and we don't have to like the same thing. I personally loved it, but there have been shows like Jujutsu Kaisen that just seemed mid to me. That's fine. They don't have menus so that everyone only eats the top item.
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
That's definitely an important thing to remember! And that's so funny, I loved the show also, which is why I was so surprised that people found it boring. But, not everyone enjoys the same stories, which is fine!
@AlexNV754 ай бұрын
I don’t really understand what people could call “mid” about it tbh, the musical score is great, animation is great, story + characters are well written, it can be fun, it can be somber, and it can be exhilarating 🤷🏻♂️. The only minor complaint I have is I wish the fight scenes were more continuous instead of broken up by other scenes, for I wish to enjoy them all at once.
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
See, that's what I'm saying!! I was so surprised by the amount of comments I got saying that it wasn't that great. Maybe the negativity just cut through the positive feedback, but I thought the show was awesome, lol. And yes, I feel like far too many shows bounce around and break up the action, instead of showing everything all at once.

Almost 3 years after watching "The Dance That Changed Animation Forever" for the first time it's finally time to leave a comment below one of your videos. I was never a huge fan of Animes and haven't watched pretty much anything before this day. I stumbled upon the video because I'm a huge Disney Fan - Beauty and the Beast was one of the only movies I had on VHS in my childhood and I can't tell you how often I've watched it. But well, in the end it turned out this wasn't the only interesting aspect of this video. Through the passion you transported in the AoT part I started watching the series, because I just had to see myself what you were talking about. And what to say...I loved it, got hooked and watched an uncountable amount of Animes in the aftermath. Other Animes shown by you like Haikyuu became some of my favorites aswell. I'm afraid you turned me into a weeb, now I regulary watch up to 10 Animes a season and also took the time to catch up on a lot of the older popular (and not so popular) Animes. Thanks a lot for all of this! And to not be completely off topic: After watching the first Season of Frieren I also rated it as my favorite Anime of all time and it's not even really close to be honest. I enjoy a lot of them nowadays, but Frieren was just different right from the beginning. I loved every second of it and it's a true masterpiece in my opinion.

Thank you so much for this comment! It means so much to me. I'm glad you were inspired to try anime out because of my channel. That's one of the reasons I wanted to start it, to share my joy and passion for animation! That's so awesome to hear! And I'm glad you enjoyed Frieren so much. It definitely is a modern masterpiece. Thank you for sharing your story with me! 😁

I really wish that they explored perception of time more. Of course, the first episode is like 60 years long but it's not reflected meaningfully outside of the party getting old and dying after a small scene. Of course showing it like that is really good in a way to show that her perception of time is so stretched but I really wish there were more moments of Frieren just observing nature later on in the story. But ever since Fern and Stark join we don't see her perception of time take effect outside of the little moments when Frieren is shown to feel contempt to just wait for years here and there. But I really wish there was more quiet moments just filled with observing and how that peaceful observing looks to Stark and Fern who don't actually have infinite time on their hands. Also I like Stark and want to see more of him
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's a great point! Once Frieren picks up Fern and Stark, the show pretty much picks up the pace and starts moving. You're right, there aren't a ton of moments where they are just observing and going slow. That's a good point that I hadn't noticed. Thanks for pointing that out!! And yes, I love Stark, lol.

I actually haven’t seen Frieren, not out of any sense of dislike for it, but just because I know I’ll like it whenever I get a chance to watch it, so I’m not in a rush to do so, just like Frieren herself, apparently! I think this show could be one of the greats, perhaps the greatest anime of all time, but I think it’s too early to tell. I’d rather wait and see how it continues and then ends before it gets lauded the way it’s been.
@DrewMalou4 ай бұрын
Yes!! You're exactly like Frieren, haha. And that's a fair assessment. I also think it needs to tell its full story before we can truly tell if this show is one of the greats or not.

@@DrewMalou Thank you haha! Yeah, I think this show needs to cook a little more before it can fairly be ranked.

That's a good call! I agree, we will need to wait and see before we can properly assess it.

I saw a video about Frieren is light years better than a black hole called LOTR: Rings of Power especially Galadriel was badly written.

Ahhhhh, I still haven't seen Rings of Power yet (I've heard bad things and don't want to be disappointed, lol) but comparing her to Galadriel seems like a pretty neat comparison!
