I glazed over how to check for gamma in my monitor color calibration video. So this video explains monitor color gamma. To do the test check out lagom. Its not a seccure site so this link is directly to the test image. www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/img/gamma-test-2.png

I was chrcking out for a good clear gamma explanation and came across this video. I am glad i found it, especially cuz i have an high urge to have perfect settings when it comes to colors. I also use an AOC monitor, so what i did was copy your settings(thanks to you switching accidentally to your color scheme tab in the AOC settings, haha). And my colors really look amazing right now, better then i ever had them. I used "normal" before, wth the same contrast and brightness settings + gamma 2, but compared to your settings, yours give way more life and bright colors, better shadings and way better conrast overall. Thank you so much for sharing this video! 👍👌

In your laptop, you could try some fake HDMI dongle that are really inexpensive. Thanks to your videos, I'm learning about video calibration. Cheers.

Not usual to refer to the color and the whole thing as gamma - in most cases we call that "Gamut" and gamma is almost always referred when talking about the luminance.

Download that image to your computer. Some times web browser does not show that in correct resolution and that image does not work. Also try to zoom it in and out to see if gamma change. That image is meant to work with your screen native resolution.

Lavikka, try getting your dE with Intel Graphics app to 65 measuring with your calibrating software, then continue to calibrate with measured values, do relative gamma instead of absolute and let me know if doing this the problem was solved. I did this with DisplayCal and no trouble at all. Hope this helps. Saludos desde México.

Everything you said here is totally right. I can see/spot the difference. On my laptop, the gamma transition happened around 2.2 on Photoshop whereas in Firefox browser it is showing around 1.8. Even though I set both programs to use NVIDIA drivers, Why is that??? I'm using Win10 w/ latest updates. Anyway interesting findings..

Nvidia settings allow you to select what application gets to use what graphics driver. Haven't tried it for gamma, but managed to get my video player to use the geforce instead of intel, sooooo, might work for you too.

If you have the latest windows 10 updates, you can set the preferred gpu for each app. Somewhere in the display settings under advanced graphics settings, you will be able to add your app and select "High Performance" gpu. This is in Windows settings, not in Nvidia's settings. Google it if you can't find it

Lavikka Photography Hi just in case your still working on this issue, in Mac world folks often use a dummy display plug to fake a screen when using a Mac mini as a server for example, depending on your display output this may be possible. This may encourage your laptop to use the video card driver full time.

@@LavikkaPhotography For desktop you need to calibrate gamma in intel graphic manager, for apps that use nvidia use nvidia control panel. Calibrate them individually?
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnny_123b Sounds like a laptop. Nvidia runs when you open an app that uses it. Intel does the desktop. The gamma should be the same. go to www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php and download the gamma image. Open it in photoshop or lightroom. It should look the same as the web site in your browser.

weirdly enough, if I calibrate my monitor to all the "correct" settings according to lagom, the image is too dark. This is mostly because of the gamma settings - the setting I'd use intuitively is way off from what I get when setting it according to the website's gamma chart. Of course I don't want to turn up my monitor brightness to compensate, as I mainly use my PC in the dark. Maybe someone has a similar problem and can help me out here, this is really confusing haha

I experience the same problem. If I calibrate the monitor using the chart then I end up with an image that looks verrry dark in the mid range (dark grays end up looking near black)

The day Microsoft enables 64bit color depth as a setting option that day the computer images will change forever I hope they name it REAL LIFE OR BEYOND REAL LIFE.

Man, perhaps due to youtube compression, this video was very hard to get... I could see no difference on your screen to find out what I should be looking up on mine. Thanks anyway for the try.

You need to simply uninstall the Intel driver, of course. How to not use Intel graphics but dedicated graphics is really one of the most basic things of modern computer use (equivalent with setting up Windows, for example). However I also have a monitor which seems to be resistent to gamma adjustment, even with calibration... I get always stay at 1.1 - 1.8 in test images, depending on brightness, regardless of how I mess with it (make it really "warm" or "cold) or make it more accurate. It has a wide gamut and 10-Bit colour, although it is a cheap monitor (Hannspree HQ272PQD), it should be able to get basic gamma right... And I'm sure I'm close to the correct colour settings (taking out all the tinges one by one until perfect white can be displayed, with plenty of comparison and checking in that department). I guess I'll have to get rid of it, since the backlight also tires out my eyes somehow... Seems to be a low quality backlight (supposedly flicker-free).

Have you tried calibrating with relative gamma option? Maybe changing that little setting can do the trick for you.

5:18 something isnt right. lower gamma(1) is supposed to be way brighter than 2.2. why its reverse here?

okay, the instructions say don't resize the browser, but at 33% on my 4k sony x90j, I get a near perfect 2.2, at 100% I get 16 14 15 13... ? the gamma lines seem to match the native pixel size at 33%... if this is old could there be a mix up, everything else and every test I looked at has me thinking things are well caliberated. SCREW THIS If your on 4k make it full screen and go 33%!!! THE ONLY OTHER WAY IS CRUSH YOUR BLACKS TO OBLIVION! gamma in windows down to 30% plus black levels on tv menu too, it's incorrect! probably works at 1080p i dont know...
