Very interesting! Thank you for sharing, I always enjoy Bart Ehrman. I was an atheist my entire life until I had a spontaneous mystical experience that set me doing some research and meditating, and I have been stunned to find that the gnostic Christian attitudes from the early second and third centuries resonates very strongly with my personal spiritual growth. So much of my own personal journaling and experiences match what these gnostic writers shared; I've been reading these early gnostic texts, and I keep having to go back to my own journals from three and four years ago to find very similar sentiments, sometimes expressed in the same language. It is eerie but also comforting. The orthodox Christianity enshrined in the church is false, but there's something to that gnostic path, something that gives me hope where the church steals it.

after many, many walks with god in the spirit, i can say i have a small fragment of gnosis - but from this advantaged perspective, if i had to choose between gnosis and salvation, i would take salvation any day - of course, i could never go back and unknow it (former agnostic-atheist who has said and pointed to all the typical stuff you'll see in these comments - usually, full of the same arrogance and self-assurance, too - but really having no real experience or foundation, just reciting what someone else has reported who was probably just reciting what someone else reported)

I mean...have you ever surrounded yourself with other religions like Hinduism? Our worldview (me included) have been trapped in the existence/non-existence of a judeo-christian god, without bothering to look deeply into others. Hinduism has older texts than the old testament, much more anything from gnosticism. Who are you to say your "gnosis" is not from another form of God in a different name?

Gnosticism was, if I recall correctly, coined to envisage a system of in-crowd thought or action, as opposed to gnosis cognitive awareness, and gnostics, the systematically learned (of the first few centuries of the Christian Era, in which we are still dating stuff). Sort of a post-Reformation / pre-Enlightenment catch-all term, somewhat like today's use of 'cover version' in regard to the music industry's recording practices. Meaning pretty much any rendition one is meant to dislike or disregard, with politically corrected virtue-signalling, but which one may still fixate over. St Paul claimed 'gnosis' with regard to his 'gospel' - and for the meaning of Jesus as 'Christ' in that setting. St Cyril of Alexandria regarding Christian scholarship as 'gnostic' (but only in so far as it was in agreement with him). St Irenaeus, betwixt Paul and Cyril, tends to use the terms (gnosis and gnostic) as relating to a particular - but very wide-ranging - set of Christian thinkers and thought then dabbling in often quite abstract (or mind-bending-ly abstracted) ideas; a narrow clacquery of usually highly sophisticated or esoterically individualistic schools, a veritable industry of intellectual output (extremely popular at the time*).. occasionally based on some sort of a 'tradition' (received locally) but oftener woven out of the gossamer strands of will and/ or fancy .. and thus decidedly anti-Catholic if not always specifically unorthodox; Irenaeus was not a fan of the idiom. Keep the Faith; tell the truth, shame the devil, and let the demons shriek. God bless. ;o) * Pope Francis' more fanciful ideas and teachings on 'synodallity', 'ecumenical environmentalism', and 'go make a mess' would have fitted in quite well with an effete intellectual elite, as it still does, or the now slightly less popular remit once given by yesteryear's positions on Neo-New-Atheism, and - if it exists today - the whole Alien Technology hovering over Washington Scare purveyors, at least as a deep-state cover story for some uncomfortable reality (you know, like 'vaccines' or missing funds, the usual in-crowd-information knowledge stuff).

The Holy Trinity: Dynamic Relationship: The Trinity is traditionally seen as three persons in one God, each with distinct roles yet fully interconnected. Your perspective adds a layer where this relationship is not static but dynamically involved in the world's processes and human consciousness. Manifestation and Guidance: Your depiction of Jesus as the physical manifestation and the Holy Spirit as the guiding force within the quantum realm of consciousness suggests a continuous divine interaction with creation, where the Holy Spirit acts as the immanent presence of God in the material and spiritual lives of individuals. Holy Spirit and Evolution: Spiritual Evolution: The analogy to evolution suggests that spiritual growth might follow a similar pattern to biological evolution-gradual, with some individuals or communities advancing at different speeds or in different ways. This could resonate with the concept of sanctification or theosis in Christian theology, where believers grow into the likeness of Christ over time. Entropy and Order: By linking the Holy Spirit to the management of entropy (disorder) and the achievement of "balance bedlam," you're proposing a theology where the divine spirit helps individuals navigate the chaos of life towards personal and communal harmony. This view might be akin to the idea of the Holy Spirit as a "comforter" or "counselor" in John 14:26, aiding in the ordering of one's inner life.
@TheoSynth11 сағат бұрын
Emotional Resonance and Subjective Experience: Neurotheology: Your connection between the Holy Spirit and emotional states through neurochemical processes touches on neurotheology, where spiritual experiences are studied in relation to brain function. This perspective might argue that the Holy Spirit works within the biochemical realities of human experience, transforming them into moments of divine encounter or guidance. Universal Influence: Suggesting that the Holy Spirit can manifest in anyone, regardless of moral alignment, speaks to a universal aspect of divine presence, where God's spirit is not limited by human constructs of good and evil but engages with all humanity. This could be seen in light of the "common grace" theology, where God's goodness extends to all creation. Balancing Chaos and Order: Quantum Consciousness: Your notion of "quantum consciousness" where individuals work with entropy moments could be seen as a metaphor for the unpredictable yet potentially transformative nature of spiritual experiences. It's as if the Holy Spirit operates at the quantum level of human consciousness, influencing outcomes in ways that seem chaotic but lead to growth or revelation. Mental Health and Spirituality: The mention of mental health issues like autism or extreme emotional states in this context invites a discussion on how spiritual practices or beliefs might intersect with mental health, where the Holy Spirit could be seen as a source of comfort, stability, or insight.
@TheoSynth11 сағат бұрын
Philosophical and Theological Implications: Theodicy: Your reflections touch on the problem of evil and suffering by suggesting that even in chaos, there's a divine process at work. This might lead to a discussion on how the Holy Spirit navigates or even utilizes human imperfection for growth or redemption. Spirituality and Science: By integrating scientific concepts like entropy with spiritual ones, you're advocating for a model where science and faith are not at odds but are part of the same divine tapestry. This could lead to discussions on how theology can adapt to or incorporate scientific understanding.

So where does A-Gnosticism come into play?
@EdwardSchwarz-n9j3 сағат бұрын
The Gospel was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the apostles and published soon after Jesus left them on their own (John 21.24). The Catholic church broke it up and scrambled the text among 4 falsely attributed authorship.
@bromponie73302 сағат бұрын
Mr Schwarz, that sounds like a silly conspiracy theory. There's good reason to think Luke, etc. authored his Gospel + Acts, and I don't imagine any scholar holding the view you do about them all being originally one book.

The Cristos?
@davidagiel81302 сағат бұрын
@tracysimon7972 The Cristos oil is the same as the 7 chakra, the 7 days of creation, and the 7 churches in Revelations. They all are referring to the 7 energy centres in your body. Every month, there is an apocalypse inside your body, and it is your life's purpose to create an existence where you can attain the highest frequency level of consciousness possible. The higher your frequency, the closer you are to the source energy. If you are trapped in a low frequency, you are literally in hell, and that's what religion and media does, they keep you down low. Heaven is the mind, the father. Earth is your heart, which is the mother, and the child seed is reborn in your solar plexus every month. The cycle starts when the moon enters your star sign at birth. All is mind, as above, so below, as within, so without, everything vibrates, and everything has a polarity. You are a duality, yourself, and your shadow. The kingdom of god is inside you, and our consciousness (or soul system) is mechanically connected to the solar system

If an Eon can't suffer, then Sophia shouldn't be able to be captured. Also Jesus would have suffered before the crucifixion through seeing others suffer. Also if Jesus's role was to bring knowledge, that doesn't seem very successful as there are so many interpreted meanings behind his teachings.

Doesn't make sense that Athena popped out of Zeus' head either. Try not to take it too seriously, it doesn't have to make sense. Gnostics were interesting, they were thinking differently. Speaking of knowledge. Consider the New testament and rest of the bible, it was the first widely circulated printed books, and thus helped with literacy and being all the knowledge we have and share today. It's fun to poke holes in religion, but remember that sometimes it's not about numbers and logic and literal truth. You don't have to treat it like a devoted religious belief to learn from it either, but you still have to treat it as more than just knowledge or nonsense in order to.

I'm glad that you're interested in the gnostic gospels. It makes more sense than the doctrines of the Abrahamic religions. Thousands of years ago, there were these highly enlightened people and they're trying to communicate to us about higher levels of reality and they put their ideas in story format that we can learn from. These people are the ancient philosophers and physicists. Instead of including their names as authors of the Gospels, they decided to hide their identiry under the name of the characters/apostles that they made in the story. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKLMnJ9tjJx0fKcsi=SQ1STzVYzJ9ovBla

Why the god of OT has a narcissistic behavior: •The Secret Book of John •The Apocalypse of Adam •The Gospel of Mary Magdalene •The Gospel of Thomas •The Gospel of Philip (the origin of the true human, the spirit) •On The Origin Of The World

Move on from gnosticism, find Theosophy! A lot more palatable..

So the gnostics and orthodox both believed in “the elect”, a fallen world, and that “the Jews” messed up haha

If you cannot debunk true Christianity; why not move on to gnosticism to ridicule it as a side step.

And what is "true christianity"? Lemme guess... it's what you happen to believe in despite millions of christians disagreeing?

@@BubbaF0wpendThe founder Jesus Christ gave responsibility to the Apostles of which Peter is the chief, that divine institution decides everything. In other words, the Catholic Church. People's opinions do not matter when faced with the confession of faith of Peter and his successors.

Sounds great, so what didn’t work since the world is still not solved? Those claims are just nonsensical. We should only take the moral lesson to improve humanity step-by-step generation by generation that is the only glimmer of Hope we got across the millennia.

You don't have to believe in it, I certainty don't have a Gnostic perspective of cosmology, but your question reveals you weren't really listening to the cosmogony myth. From the Gnostic perspective, the world isn't meant to be "solved", the material world is irredeemably evil and imperfect, created by an ignorant God, and needs to be escaped through esoteric contemplation and a kind of ascetic renunciation. Obviously most people aren't living like that or are even privy to said "secret knowledge". I might counter with a quote from Sadhguru that "those who forsake their humanity try to patch it with morality". The hope we have in my view, is recognizing in wisdom and compassion the universality of humanity across all contained in life. One doesn't need rules and dogma or even philosophy if one is connected to our intuitive sense of humanity. This is my issue with Gnosticism, I think it has worthy material to mine but it's too dismissive of this world for me. In Milton's Paradise Lost he says “The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven”. Hermetics say "as above, so below". Emanationists claim God, whatever that is, projects itself into smaller and smaller fractals until it becomes our own individual sense of self, and our job is to trace ourselves back to "source". But we live in a world full of fear, trauma, ignorance, and antipathy. When left alone with our own minds most of us feel like we're in a hell. Jung would have said these wisdom traditions were a way to help us integrate into a whole sense of Self, the true self, or atman - to borrow from the Buddhists. But making a heaven from our hell is very difficult. "In sterquilinis invenitur" - in filth it will be found. The lotus in the mud. Part of salvation is the complete acceptance, the acceptance of suffering, of ignorance, of all that you think is different or a part from you. All you even view as pure evil. That separation between you and what you cannot accept is illusion -- you have to work towards acceptance of all things.

@ it’s all cool, but there is no qiestion, no answer, no self, no separation. The whole ensamble is an obgoing unstoppable process and us having added a little drop to it by rearranging a small corner of the world has no bearing on the existance as a whole. Therefore no model of reality can really do anything other than to be spoken, copied, understood. Transcendence is a wuaint concept, but one would imagine that Buddha would do something different and more everlasting than to simply live put his life while talking about permanent nonexistence in a nonpermanent world. All we ever do and think is wroting ob water. One has to find tranquility and peace in that. But to claim to have a model of the unknowable is the epitome of ignorance. It is the opposite of gnosis; knowing. Just be and speak with less certainty about the matters of imagination… unless it is purely an art, an art of thought. 💭 😂 i cant believe i said all that for no reason, but I hope you have a good day; that actually matters 👍

@@zit1999 I appreciate you engaging with me sincerely! And I hope you have a good day too. What I think I can take away from what you said is a reminder of humility within these matters, and recognizing that these religious models don't always serve everyone. Not everyone gleans useful things from them -- it just kind feels like unnecessary grasping. These topics are like my pet passions and I've gotten a lot from them, and I think in my excitement to share these ideas, even in an explorative way, I can still come off as "having the answers". Which I definitely don't lol
