It's going to be interesting to see Chanel's direction following this; I am very surprised to see Virginie go, I think she's talented and she was the last what Carl's legacy, if you will since she worked with him for so long. I loved her humility and I wish nothing but the best for her.

Am sad to see her go especially with the way Chanel is going on about it. She was there for 40 years, right hand to Karl Lagerfeld, trained under him, gives this company their best of the best SALES ever, and that's it? Will she be at the couture collection? If she's not invited to come forth and close her era, in a respectful way then Chanel doing her dirty and I would have to part ways with the company myself. Heartbreaking IMHO.

I was waiting to hear your thoughts since you buy Chanel RTW. From what I saw, Virginie knew her customers and made wearable, everyday clothes. I also appreciated that Chanel continued to make clothes in wider size ranges than other houses.

I've been remembering her collections and I really loved the spring summer 2023 show in particular, the ones where the models came out of the wooden animals. Those white coats were just to die for. I'm going to support her so so SO much in her future endeavors.

I can see you’re very upset by her her departure. While I had a strong affection for Karl and his designs and just overall talent, I liked Virginie and thought she brought a more feminine and wearable vibe to the brand. She made the shows about the clothes and let the theme be the undertone. While I didn’t like every show, I can honestly say I enjoyed about 87% of them. I just wished that her lines were a bit more cohesive as an overall collection. Consistency was an issue for me with her but I still really respected her as a designer and I loved most of the pieces she put out. I am also nervous as to the direction of the brand. I feel Virginie is the only designer that could continue the legacy of the essence of Chanel in this moment as she had such a deep relationship with the house and Karl himself. She really feminized the jackets so beautifully. I hope a strong male ego doesn’t ruin Chanel. Karl was definitely an icon and loved attention but to me he always kept the spirit of Coco Chanel while still adding his twist. The thing I loved about Virginie is that she was able to bring back the feminine touch that Coco brought while still keeping a masculine edge. She will be missed and I don’t think a lot of people will understand what an asset she was to Chanel. I wonder if she is leaving fashion overall or if she will go back to work at Chloe? Thanks for opening up this conversation. Too many good designers have been dismissed because their vision does not align with the corporate, commercial side of the brand instead of the core customer. I feel like she was good at presenting us with commercial pieces, but was very limited in the quality of where the brand was heading. Any artist forced to water down their medium will eventually become unhappy because they’re number one love is to produce art at it’s finest, not be forced to resort to cheap scraps and produce pieces that lack integrity and quality. Hopefully I will be able to purchase atleast one of her jackets. Loved the Metier d’art Manchester show. ❤

I love Virginie. She designed no different from Karl except Karl’s team added the animation/drama to the model outfit for the Runway show. I guess if Chanel not very careful on their next move -Customers may drop Chanel as a whole.

I agree with absolutely everything you said. And I too bought rtw because of Virginie relatable design to work into my lifestyle. I still love Chanel but wonder what the future will hold! Well, there has never been a designer or a collection that I loved every single piece that walk down The runway . the same was true for Virginie with me. However, she did send some incredible amazing pieces down the runway, and the brand did incredibly well with her as a designer. I do think something happened in that office that day, or like the straw that broke the camels back situation! either way, no matter what, this is a sad situation, especially for Chanel and for us as people who love Chanel I& loved Karl. Virginie Was as close to DNA as we will ever see again!

I didn’t understand the strong negativity either. She was highly involved in Karl’s later collections right? You can still pick up lots of great things this year. Winter collection is always my favourite. Have faith the next Chanel designer would also be faithful to the brand aesthetic overall 😊
