The mother who's ashamed of her daughter: what has happened to this woman's mind? That she rejects her daughter so thoroughly she has effectively disowned her. Oh my sweet lord.

Wtf? Why does every relaxed girl on here think that your hair has to be relaxed to be long? Your hair can be natural and long (in fact, you're more likely to maintain that length if you DON'T relax it).
@SRUFUS3D
@SRUFUS3D 9 жыл бұрын
Tessitura9 I am guy but can't girls use a flat iron to strighten their hair, heat damage can be avoided with skill and use of products, even so it less DESTRUCTIVE than -Sodium Hydroxide!- Relaxer.
@Tessitura9
@Tessitura9 9 жыл бұрын
Oh definitely. Everyone is different. BUT, that's like asking if there are people who smoke cigarettes without getting lung cancer (a bit exaggerated, I know lol). Yes, you CAN flat iron your hair and maintain length, it happens all the time. But will it damage your hair in the process? Most definitely. Obviously the more often you do it, the more likely you are to have no hair lol. That's why some naturals don't use heat at all, others use it 1x a yr, some 2 times a year, some once a month, it's a matter of preference. Most girls with relaxed hair straighten their hair nearly everyday though (I grew up with relaxed hair). Now if you're talking about the creamy crack (aka relaxers), that's different entirely. Your hair WILL break off eventually. There are of course exceptions, but not many. Just take it from an ex-relaxed, natural. It's WAY easier to grow your hair naturally.
@Tessitura9
@Tessitura9 9 жыл бұрын
Random Note: I think the sister who spoke first is prettier lol. Her hair would more than likely be long if it weren't relax. You can tell by looking at her hair that it is thinning (and probably did some breaking off).
@Tessitura9
@Tessitura9 9 жыл бұрын
Oh one more thing, also random: The ironic thing about having natural hair (and I learned this recently) is that even straightening your natural hair is 10x better than relaxed straightened hair. When you relax your hair, it's thinner, oily(er), fragile and lifeless. When you straighten natural hair, it's thick, soft and has this shine and you see your natural highlights and it's just crazy how much better it is. I recently went to straighten my hair at a salon and this Russian lady straightened my hair. The shop owner was Asian. All the hair dressers were just floored by (1) how long my hair was compared to how short it looks curly and (2) how thick, soft and long it was. They actually envied the body of my hair.
@SRUFUS3D
@SRUFUS3D 9 жыл бұрын
Tessitura9 Wow that is great useful info thanks! I thought they were products to reduce damage of heat to hair, correct me if I wrong. Some girls always say that "Guys don't like girls with nappy hair". Which is not true since some prefer the natural hair (on some). And the really snappy less reasonable ones go along the lines of "If a man worry about another womans hair they are either broke or gay" ??? Wait WUT?! That has no reasoning! First of even as a teen, I see no sense on spending that much on hair and ontop of that it damages. And normally I say that stuff because it is dangerous and I actually prefer a girl with natural hair, I don't mind TOO much what style she decides to wear at different points, but at least it healthy right? I guess....

Women, not just black women give some so much importance to long hair it's ridiculous and sad. A few years ago, my cousin was diagnostied with a brain tumor. She had to go through surgery almost imediately. When we announced it to our family, the first thing some members said was "oh no will she have to shave her hair? Oh but it is so long!" I never side eyed someone so hard in my life.

What Ayana said made me realize just what is wrong with our people. We really have come a long way. I honestly never thought about it that way and it's no wonder why a lot of men in particular are so in your face about what we do with our hair. People say black people are obsessed with hair, you now have an idea where it comes from. Now I never really had time to understand my natural hair since my mother straightened it when I was about 6 or 7. Since then I tried going back natural twice. First time was when I was at school and the teasing got overbearing, plus I didn't know what to do, people would quarrel with my older sister about my 'unkempt' appearance. My hair was always an active topic at school and it hurt so I ended relaxing it, even after when I started working, it was always something about my hair. I decided to try it again just over a year ago. Never again will a relaxer touch my hair.

Yeeah, I like both natural and straight hair. I think I'd look great with my natural hair, but I'd only want to wear it long, and I don't think I could deal with all of the length. I like my short straight hair. While I admire the women who decided to go natural to combat a damaging Eurocentric beauty standard, I just won't do it. I tried going natural, and while it didn't look awful, I didn't feel like myself. I know that sounds odd, maybe it's because I've had my hair straightened most of my life, but it is what it is. I just wanted to embrace my natural hair and feel more of black woman, but it doesn't matter what type of hair you have. All that matters is that I/you/we learn my/your/our cultures and appreciate what made me/you/ us who I/you/we am/are.

As a non black person this really hurt me and saddens me especially the young girls. Your hair is your strength and think about it like this. 🌹 They tried cutting your hair to try and separate you from your ancestors but couldn't cut the spirit of your ancestors.🌹 Always embrace yourself because you have "exotic" features others are so desperate to have today and it's the way the industry/society is so manipulative about everything is just shameful in it self because it acts like a confused person. They like one thing then the next there against it. Europeans have always done that to other races especially Native Americans when they would cut their braids off in the boarding school systems back then. Please look into it because everybody needs to see what the history books are not teaching you in schools. I just feel like you all should embrace you're natural hair and try to work with it like how white people have done for there advantage because you have unique hair that should be embraced and used for you're advantage also Add a fake butterfly to a Afro

Tolga Eskici How are you telling her not to use a question and exclamation mark when you used two full stops in succession? Get YOUR grammar together.
@joanna.button

Tolga Eskici Yes, you did imply that I shouldn't say it. You stated that it is formally out of bounds and because I used it in that matter, to kill myself.

Tolga Eskici So now you are coming up with excuses as to why you corrected me on an already correct sentence. I think you were looking in the mirror when you said fool- you were saying it to yourself.

black women always make excuse about their hair, their hair breaks because they put to much chemicals in it... leave the chemicals and stick to one type of hair product and just be patient with your hair.... black women are to impatient with most things and their hairs an example.

I think its about embracing yourself and not hiding from who you are. I think when u learn to embrace yourself others will follow because they see ur confidence. Its such a struggle to go against the status quo but someone has to do it

I believe that everyone has good hair, and that what you were born with is beautiful! And when it come to cutting your hair or dying it, it's whatever makes you happy. Some people just want to see change, not to please others but to please themselves
