Greasing the groove” (GtG) is a phrase Pavel coined to describe what you're doing when you consistently practice a specific strength skill. The more you practice, the more of a pathway forms between your muscles and your nervous system.

Grease is the world. Love your channel. I’m 51 used to be a marathon runner then hurt my back. I’m 30 pounds over weight and so tired of all the shit with younger kids. I’m a motivated person eat clean most of the time but I’m so scared to do anything but walk so weight comes off then comes back on. Love your words, your knowledge. Thank you

It works! I followed your method as described for chinups, using bands just do 5 reps every day. Usually once a day, but sometimes twice, plus my regular workout. I was stuck at 1 single pull up for months and now I can get 3 sets of 2 unassisted. I'm starting with 6 reps assisted this week and hopefully I can get to 3 unassisted in the next little while. Thank you for your excellent advice!

I used Grease the Groove for pull ups, but I would just do them every time I walked by the pull up bar at home, and in between sets of other exercises in the gym. Sub-maximal reps, as often as possible. Never used bands, but started with 1-2 reps and worked my way up.

This is helpful. What you are doing for your shoulder is a basic approach for physical therapy. I have often wondered about doing lifts daily, in that brick layers are very chiseled but they don't take a day off between the lifts. They don't go to failure either and do that five days a week. Just an idea.

Ok starting today Sunday 11/26/23 I’m greasing the groove with my handstand practice. My non struggle start point is wall hold for 3 breaths, cartwheel down, then 3 halfway kick up on each leg facing wall- it’s kind of a combo but I feel like I need both movements to work on my handstand eventually I’d like to just be able to do the kick ups. might do reps throughout day sometimes as my handstand practice wall is always open right in a main room.

Love it!! coach Pavel Tsatsouline It's called “Grease the Groove,” and was made popular by the heralded Russian strength coach Pavel Tsatsouline. Strength results from two dominant factors: (i) hypertrophy, or how big your muscles are, and (ii) efficiency, or how well you use those muscles.

I did grease to groove with dumbbell romanian deadlift. 2 weeks ago I had no idea how to do it, today I am pushing out 3sets of 10. My other goal was to be able to do just 1 perfect push up. Which I have never been able to do in my life. 2 months ago I could do zero. Today I can do 7. Full blown, perfect form push ups. Next challenge is chin ups for sure. I can do zero today. I am 49.
