There was a mini comic for this by the creator where Sans and Papyrus were still learning to speak and were still in the same room as Gaster who is working on something only for it to hurt him causing him to accidentally swear only for Sans and Papyrus to start repeating the swear word causing Gaster to panic and feel disappointed in himself because of this blunder

As a note: The Handplates comic has been complete for quite a while now (over a year... wow time flies). The stylistic differences in the earlier parts (line thickness, the "lost soul" head design for Dr. Gaster) was artistic experimentation by Zarla. The earliest portion of the comic wasn't written in order (there was a bit of jumping around), though after a certain point (I don't remember when) the comics were written chronologically. Handplates is by Zarla-s on Tumblr (and DeviantArt). There is a masterpost (actually two due to the sheer number of links) of all comic pages in chronological order on her Tumblr. Zarla has also written a couple of short "what-if" comics about if Dr. Gaster had chosen Mercy (Mercyplates is if he doesn't put the handplates on and ends the experiment early, Late Mercy is if he ends the experiment early, but still after much of the physical/emotional trauma the brothers had to endure). 36:52 "Monsters aren't born. They're not even made. They create themselves, one atrocity at a time." - Comic Aurora by OSP Red. Undertale (and Handplates) makes an important distinction between monsters and Monsters. 51:40 Zarla made a list of colors skeletons glow for different emotions. Each skeleton has a "default" color (ex: Papyrus' orange and Sans' cyan), but other colors are possible (ex: purple/yellow are generally associated with fear). Take this comic at your own pace - it is tough, and it is demented, but it does lighten up eventually. It is also a very good examination of the lasting effects of trauma and secrets. That said, I hope you have a good day!

I used to not care about Undertale. Sure, I had friends who liked it, but an initial cursory glance at the game didn't grab me, and a later interaction with a fan where they insulted me for not wanting to play put me off further. Not even my friends could change my mind on the matter. Later on, I started seeing notifications of a comic by an artist I was subbed to (zarla) but because it was UT-related I didn't bother and dismissed it all. Until one day, I started reading the comic out of boredom. Weeks went by, and I found myself continuing reading. And reading. Eventually, I went back and read it from the start. I became eager to read more, I _wanted_ more. I need to know what happened next. I... started caring. Handplates made me care about Undertale, and I'm thankful for zarla's work.

Just so you know for later on, it might seem like the series abruptly ends in it's episodes, and thats because this specific dub was never fully finished for handplates Im pretty sure, but there are absolutely more dubs (one that I watched for example) which continue where stardubs left off, just so you know!!

I dont know if you noticed it but, sans and papyrus completely has gaster’s traits! Since he made them from his own body as shown in the beginning. Papyrus’s naïveté shows probably the past and true gaster outside of this forced monster he turned himself into, while sans’s sarcastic and intelligent personality shows his current one, during work(you can notice how gaster cracks few “jokes” about the worst situations during these, like the 51:02 ) and gaster also isnt mentally stable himself just like sans since he himself mentioned how lacking one eye(glow?) effects their mental health.

And that part about the visuals showing us that he has a choice while Gaster denies it is something I never noticed before!

Ok so I've seen and actively searched for other handplates reactions until I found this on my dash and I think I already have to call yours as my favourite. You're definitely the most perceptive one I've seen watching this and I've just been nodding along and grinning each time you caught onto something others haven't. Handplates is one of a few fan creations that I would recommend to someone who hasn't even experienced the source material, that's how highly I recognise it. The story is masterfully written, with so many tie backs and tie ins and events that just enrichen Undertale itself. The foreshadowing alone in this is immaculate, not to mention the depth of the character writing and how well it portrays trauma and people's psyches. Starbot dubs hasn't adapted the entire comic, but once you've seen all they put out you can easily move on to phoenix prime's dub to watch the rest, it's absolutely worth it even though the va's are different. Thanks for sticking with this even though it's (understandably) a very hard story to take in. Can't promise it gets easier, but it's absolutely worth the watch.

Yup, it is a painfull story to read, i really like it. Stardubs never finishwd dubing the comic as far as I'm aware, those 3 movies are not all of the story. I always find the world inhumane hilarious, mostly because i always hear it as a complaint or adjective for actions only humans do, which would make the action the oposite of inhumane, at least that's My understanding.

Oh boi! You really hopped in the emotional pain train on this one but I'm still happy that you are giving this a chance because as emotionally painful this can get and has very heavy themes/events in the story, this is very interesting story and version about Gaster, Papurys and Sans from the original and other AU's! This comic was written and drawn by Zarla-s and it was so exciting to follow on their tumblr through years when they were updating this comic starting from year 2015 until they finally finished this comic last year 2023 so the comic has actually been finished! I really enjoyed the story but only read it when I had enough mental energies to handle the more serious tone of this comic but then I would read it again and again while waiting more updates. Zarla-s also drew more light hearted illustrations and shorter comics so there's also some "counterweight" comics to read along with this comic ^^ I really enjoy the analysis and commentary you have given so far about this story and I agree that the people who voice acted these did very good job and the sound effects are also very well chosen to go along with this comic dub! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reaction to this and take your time to gain more strenght to continue this journey so you are ready for the future events of the comic! 🫶

Handplates is written and illustrated by one artist over multiple years, and it wasn't written chronologically. Zarla, the artist in question, mostly wrote it one idea at a time, skipping ahead and back as inspiration struck and going back to fill in holes to make it flow better as one whole story. She then made a list of how she thinks they should be read in order to make it easier for people to get the whole timeline of events. So, you'll notice differences in how things are drawn because she changed her style of drawing as she went, and some of those later pieces fall early in the timeline while someone of the early things she's drawn will fall much later in the timeline. I've been a long time fan of Zarla for years over multiple fandoms and this how she usuallly does her writing.
