I just found out about your channel, i've watched every video in a binge from the start to this one... and i really, really love it!!! Every video is SO well done - it shows the love for the chateau and the amazing effort from Mark (let me say this: I love to watch chateau renovations and subscribed to a few channels - but it was NEVER such a lovley, funny - i LOVE your comments, informative and detailed experience! Brilliant!!!) and Phillip (you keep us viewers very well oriented and i think thats not always easy 'cause of the kind of these buildings and outbuildings and levels and outyards and entrances and the whole property, ponds, streams, parks, gardens... very, very well done!!!) and - of course - JUDY (i'm so glad you made it you are such an important part of the experience! Keep your pearls clutched!)! There is no other option: I had to subscribe!! I'm so exited to see the next video - i can't wait!! The bedrooms are coming together! As a former language teacher I have a tip for pronouncing “dur”. Practice the following: make a long eeeeee sound. As you are doing that, start puckering up. When your pucker is at its fullest, your sound will be automatically a proper French u. No laughing while you practice! 😂

English lesson 🤔…. Correct ‘loo’ , corridors not so much…. Hallway…corridor maybe in the staff quarters, And finally sinks are in the kitchen, basin is in the bathroom . Bronowl34, now do keep in mind we are west coast Americans... lol... a Hallway would be small and apartment like, a corridor is grand and wide, basin we would not use at all for anything, and a tub is, well, a tub, whether for bathing or margarine 😂... not that we would ever eat margarine 🤢 I actually am surprised Phillip did not do a little soft-shoe when he was in that room, perhaps next time. One of the problems of the French using sand and dirt to insulate the tile floors is it introduced wood worms to the structure. If your stripping the walls, strip the floors to to inspect the floor beams for wood rot and work damage. All french buildings using this building technique have some degree of woodworm damage.

MidnightVisions, boy do we know woodworm! we just call it patina!! 😂... more and more floors are being opened up to remove the sand and lime. We will not be able to do them all, but we are doing as many as we can. Thank you for watching and commenting !

Hi guys. Just a suggestion, wouldn't it be better if you took the tiles of at the blue room? First to investigate the beems for rot and then get rid of the sand which puts a lot of weight on them, especially when you are going to add on it with a bathtub. Then put the tiles back. I've seen in other chateaus bad problems hid underneath and it would be better to find them before you do all the work. Well, just think about it❤❤

Litsa... It is funny that you should make this suggestion... Phillip filmed the tour a couple of weeks ago, and literally two days after the tile and all of the sand was removed from the blue room! The tile will go back in, but not the sand. We actually decided to do it to, of course lighten the weight load, but also allow access for the electricians to add electric to the spot where a chandelier will hang in the grand salon, which is directly below, without harming the salon ceiling. But, nonetheless, thank you for the suggestion!!! and thank you for watching and commenting!

I understood that the tiles/sand combo was a firebreak. If there was a fire in the room below the sand & tiles would slow the spread to the upper floor. So yes, heavy, but with good reason.

Ruth, that is absolutely correct, as well as insulation and sound proofing... It was a good idea at the time with so much use of fire everywhere, from the fireplaces to multitudes of candles everywhere. Considering the state of the electricity in the Chateau when we bought it, it is actually amazing it had not burned down. A lot of the electric was surface mounted from the 1930's. Very dangerous! There are light fixtures that you dare not touch unless you want to be thrown across the room, even when the switch was off ! We are installing everything brand new, and handful of rooms that we are removing the sand will get an insulation that will have some fire protection. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

We are trying our hardest to add 21st century technology, first by tearing out the earlier technology that was very unattractive, and installing all brand new, and most importantly, 95 percent hidden. With the exception of plugs and switches the house will look as it did when it was first built. Well, first built and then remodeled in the early 1860's... 😆 We sincerely hope that you do come to visit and. do lean at least a bit of French. If you speak a small amount in a kind manner, it is amazing how many French people will switch to English ! Thank you

A fireback was used as a means to heat the house during the night after the fire had burned out...in medieval times a second one was put in front of the first and then taken to a bedroom during the evening before bed to warm the room up before retiring...they had special sones or brick pieces to hold them.

I don't know about the glass floor in the bathroom...there used to be a nightclub in Atlanta and the dance floor was glass over a tank of sharks...and you guessed it, one night the floor gave way...the limelight in NY had a giant tank with sharks with a bar built around it, that was in an old church....it's one thing for the floor in glass and everyone coming over to see all your stuff, to each his own, but the thought of a full tub on the glass floor giving way you'd get cut in the shower of glass while stark naked in the tub falling and then break bones as the tub broke through the floor below on it's way to the wine cellar...at least you can have a few drinks to numb the pain of broken bones before bleeding to death with the glass shards embedded in your skin.....

T J, the scribbles, sometimes writing and numbers, and sometimes actual cartoon like figures are all over the chateau. We found them under all of the layers of wall paper and we have no idea why they are there... a mystery! Thank you for watching and commenting !
