I think in addition to not caring about competing things like this short don't take into account that tastes often change between generations. Sure some things transcend it, but those are the legendary songs, not just the good ones. And it works the other way round as well, I really don't see someone like Drake or Kendrick being nearly as successful in the 90's or early 2000's. That is not what people wanted then.
