In modern gaming where every feature, mechanic and asset has a "how much money does this make vs how much money does this cost" metric attached to it, it is no wonder that the awesome stuff we got for free is the first to go. I will say for the whole readability thing, I think it won't really affect casual players, because there are already so many skins, and only someone with your level of investment can look at a skin and instantly know who it belongs to. I feel like most people still look at the hero power or something to figure out who they're up against if their opponent is using one of the weirder skins.

I personally like cosmetics… when they appeal to me. I picked up Relaxing Rafaam and forced a Signature Gilly cause they suit my tastes. This personally doesn’t but I know other people will probably enjoy it. That said, this should *not* come at the cost of other things like boards, it should in turn, fund them. Expensive cosmetics should be made in order to subsidize something else, which they did say they’re doing, but it rings hollow when we see the effects of losing free features

Frankly the more they release the more I hope they allow options to just turn everything off. With this Rag skin, then add some diamond cards into the mix and a bunch of signatures, the screen will be constantly super busy and I'll get sensory overloaded by my opponent having all these moving things 24/7. It's going to be really difficult for me to keep focused with all the visual vomit that will be going on. Main reason why I only use basic cards unless I only have the free golden option like Kobold Miner.

But I can tell you during SC2 I turned animated portraits off just like many high level players do, because seeing something wiggle in the corner of your eye can lose your train of thought. Rarran, here is the thing i don't think the community understands. There is a very real possibility that the number of free players jumped up like CRAZY in the last 2 years (with players returning, catch up packs, duplicate protection). but the number of whales stayed the same or lowered. if this is the case, then the strategy they have been doing for the last 8 months makes perfect sense. This is why they wanted to include prerelease cards in the preorder and change the value for daily quests, the free economy is literally bleeding them. So they need more money from the whales, because the amount of players incur server costs data transfer, etc. this would also explain why general stuff like the boards are getting axed. They have less money to deal with more players and need more money so they are trying to get more money by either bleeding whales or getting new whales.

They have made the game way easier to get into and substantially easier if your returning user with even a somewhat established collection so realistically if you don't need to buy packs to get somewhat competitive decks anymore they have to make money elsewhere, now I think adding in more pve/dungeon run type thing would be more appealing to more people but would also take way more dev time. About the dual class thing I don't really see an issue if you join a match even during mulligan you can see your opponents hero power and that's very quickly tells you what your opponent is playing I think alot of people get your point but if your so casual that you can't take the .5 seconds to look at the hero power your likely not doing your mulligan based on your opponent.

I know he read and ignored a chat saying 'Look at the hero power' to tell what class it is. But i don't know if he understood that a lot of players already have to do that, I don't know what class any skin is for to begin with so whenever I go against anyone using a skin I have to look at the hero power. Rag being dual class is not the cleanest thing, but Rarran's whole idea of it making it harder to read the game at a glance seems like he's too deep into the game to realize that that ship sailed a long time ago. Every new skin makes it harder for players to read what class they're against unless they are active in the community. Reno is a hero card that can change any class to the same portrait and hero power. That is 100x more confusing for me to read at a glance in a game, especially with Tourists, those mechanics actually confuse me in matches about what my opponent is, because I only play a couple times a month and don't have the tourist cycles memorized, or the skins, or even class specific hero cards. Rag isn't any different than any other skin to a new player, or a very casual player. I'll second an idea i saw somewhere else, to be able to turn off skins for opponents

I just got back in hearthstone im pretty gold at battleground(usually above 6k score easily) but everything else is a mess i spent all my saved gold on arena only to find out about barcode accounts and i def realized i wasted my gold . I mean, I'm also bothered by the thought that upcoming Brochure cards aren't going to tell you what's on the other side and if you generate it randomly without studying them all, it's gonna be a bit confusing. Design philosophy used to be a lot more about making things clear, a bit too much even, because they took it as far as not making Cards that are already Heros and vice-versa, even if the character was particularly iconic. They dialed back on that, fortunately, but it seems like they're still going, and these are all not huge deals, but I do keep getting the feeling from time to time that it's getting pushed a bit too far in the other direction now.

I'll just say, a lot of people probably don't even recongize what class a skin is without looking to see what class they are against so it kinda is a moot point thay rag is a dual class hero.

I don't think the confusion the dual class skin creates is comparable to the auto-squelch mechanic you're suggesting. The auto-squelch is really simple to add and solves an annoyance that some people have. On the other hand, if you truly are such a casual player that you recognize what class you're facing based on the skin, you're gonna struggle with the additional skins that are already out, such as Nemsy for Warlock, Blingtron for Rogue, ecc...

Calling it now. On launch of the Ragnaros skin, his unique win and loss animations are going to bug the fuck out and crash the game when a different special death animation is triggered. I’m just 110% convinced that if you Wheel of Death someone using this skin the game will shit itself and completely lock up. Same for Mecha’thun, Rivendare Warrider, Uther of the Ebon Blade, etc.

Prediction #2 is that it won’t freeze the game, but if you manage to get something like Going Down Swinging with the Ragnaros hero skin, the attack animation will freak out.

Look at the hero power, I don't know what class any skin is for to begin with so whenever I go against anyone using a skin I already have to look at the hero power. It's not the cleanest thing, but Rarran's whole idea of it making it harder to read the game at a glance seems like he's too deep into the game to realize that that ship sailed a long time ago. Reno is a hero card that can change any class to the same portrait and hero power. That is 100x more confusing for me to read at a glance
