What to expect for the 10 Days of activity?
Day 1:
- Lay protection on the floor and provide vertical wall plastic protection before the hacking work starts
- Dismantling of existing bathroom/toilet accessories and wiring
- Hacking of existing wall and floor tiles in bathroom/toilet and removal of paint
- Installation of portable toilet at the end of the day
Day 2:
- Repairing of spalling concrete (if any)
- Replacement of the floor trap and basin piping at bathroom/toilet
- Level peg for toilet/bathroom wall
- Rewiring for non-compliance water heater (if any)
Day 3:
- Skimming to common/master bedroom toilet ceiling
- Chamfering to side wall and pipe followed by 300mm upturn with waterproofing screed
- Dismantling and replacement of aluminium louvre vent at bathroom/toilet (am)
- Application of a layer of non-shrink grout in bathroom/toilet floors (pm)
- Repairing of spalling concrete (if any)
Day 4:
- Application of waterproofing membrane (2 coats) to bathroom/toilet floors
- Application of a layer of non-shrink grout in bathroom/toilet floors (pm)
Day 5:
- Conduct 1st water test to bathroom/toilet (4 hours)
- Screeding to bathroom/toilet floors
- Replacement of refuse chute hopper (if any)
Day 6:
- Plastering work to toilet/bathroom wall
- Painting to toilet ceiling
Day 7:
- Wall tiling work to common toilet and master bedroom toilet walls
Day 8:
- Floor tiling work to common toilet and master bedroom toilet walls
- Measurement of bi-fold aluminium door
- Replacement of main entrance gate and handling over of keys to resident upon completion (if any)
Day 9:
- Installation of pedestal pan, sanitary pipes, wash basin, grab bar and toilet door
- Installation of EASE grab bar and ramps inside unit (if any)
- Replacement of main entrance door, painting of existing main door frame and handling over of keys to resident upon completion (if any)
- Reinstatement of existing fixtures to bathroom/toilet and painting to bathroom/toilet ceiling pipes
- Defects rectification works (if any)
- Removal of portable toilet
- Painting work to toilet ceiling and pipe
Day 10:
- Conduct 2nd water test to bathroom/toilet (4 hours)
- Application of EASE slip-resistant treatment (if any)
- Touch up painting
- Cleaning and housekeeping
- Handover to resident

Great Saturday morning, my dear. It was about 2 or 3 weeks plus the polling. Remember to cover up as many layers if you wish to dust lesser.

@@ja_brut the more, must remind them regards the portable toilet. 1st day of hacking work, move them away at least for the day. I kept quite a few pcs of carton boxes to lay on ground after day 1, easier to walk. Make sure get the contractors to mop or clean up before end of day.

Hey, we originally planned to stay in a hotel, but since we had our dog with us, we ended up covering one of the common rooms with plastic sheets and made it work for about 11 nights. The nightmare is finally over!😮‍💨🫣🤭

Yeah, scary. Summarised: ensured you have/purchased all your stuffs needed to be installed, check thoroughly after handover (this month counting down to our 1st Year, lots of unsatisfactory still but nothing we could do, 1 year warranty almost up) Tiles tried getting the darker col, I felt the light col, I get to see dirt/stains easily. Wrapped up carefully and more layers, especially your wardrobes/cupboards. Wahaha, if you prefer to stay around, prepare a table and chairs at the stairway corridor (lol) as I was working from home, so I was glad 😊 😃 I had that idea, plus I had a dog. Lastly, if you are not wasting money to stay away, cover up 1 bedroom with more layers of sheets, so at least you have a less dusty place to sleep 😴 🙂. Gooda luck.. Oh, 1 more, try laying more cupboards or get those large plastic sheet to protect the flooring from extreme dust. I used cupboards only if I thought of the large sheet earlier maybe i save lots of time vaccumand mopping. The cleaning after took us 2 weeks 😅 for not feeling the dust. No joke!

My fat was HIP 5 years ago. But the toilet bowls are worse than my previous original HDB provided " American standard" toilet bowl which had good flush and was easy to clean. Good for elderly maintenance.

I've never been fond of the toilet bowl or its flushing system since it was installed. Quite disappointing!🤭😕

Hello @jesgbc, I'm staying at a place that's currently rented with few other tenants, the landlord doesn't stay in it. Our blk HIP is estimated to start in about 4-6 months. I understand for most people when HIP starts , they do it with their family members. Do you have any advice for me on how to handle this whole HIP process smoothly with my landlord and other tenants? Would appreciate your help. Thanks :)

Thanks for sharing. Previously, my neighbour 's rental unit proceed as normal, just ensuring the landlord/house has the door opened for contractors by 7am, locked up valuables if entrusting no one home (for me I do not heehee) I will still advise if yourself and sharing partner not with master room to tape up your room door (gaps) to prevent dust to enter so you could still sleep in by night. If those having the masterbroom upgrading toilet will be challenging. My ex neighbour just had their helper to head in morning to open door, returning after 7pm to lock up. Another of their tenant actually rental hotel to stay. 11 days very fast, just the dust n dirt the most scary challenge. If you need plastic sheet can get from me as I have some left but unsure if the adhesive still good. I kiasu bought many rolls, but did not do a good cover job (1st timer) so regretted a bit.if need to share or exchange more advise if you do not mind leave your contact and it will be easier. Hi hi, as long we don't do big all is well. Yup, we shower in it, but I still prefer to head down as I felt too squeezy. Anyway, they will tape it up in the morning, untapped in the evening. Please must remind them for it as they forgot ours on day 1 and caused my 1st night in the nightmare.. tell them you have kids and / or senior in the house, so the Mobile toilet very important.

Since its an apartment can the individual house members start using their toilets and rooms after 10days of work in their house or should wait for every flat and individual house in the apartment to be completed

Yes they did... infact every unit they will ask. 1 of my neighbour ended up needed to get lunch boxes for them, used his own pails, etc. Another neighbour, needed to pay extra for some tasks they promised to help him at 1st.

@@jesgbc just got done with day 9, the peek hole of the new door is off center, like way off, the wash basin is slanted towards the user, paid one of their electrician $50 to change 2 switches and a light, and one of the switch box is slanted. broke one of my room lights. And I bought them lunch everyday

@stevencsk79, that was sweet of you, we only got them packet drink daily and some biscuits on the first 3 days. To be honest, the company assigned to our area was still fine. True, all findings surfaced on day 9. Until todate, we still dislike the toilet bowl, the flushing system, the toilet doors, the metal gate, and the main door. ☹️🥴

Ours has been almost 2 years, and we ended up choosing the wrong color for the tiles-they’re so ugly and stained now. We still hate the toilet bowl, seat, and flushing system. And now, the toilet door is starting to creak and make cracking sounds.☹️😞

Hi hi... please do not do big business, not reccomended. Every morning 1st thing they will seal up the toilet, unsealed in the evening. The pipe with our deposit be it gold or water imagine it will be running in the pipe left there, 1st 2 days still ok, slowly you will get the wonderful aroma filling up your kitchen. Just bath, and use for water deposit ok. 😁🤣. REMEMBER TO REMIND THEM on the day they come in the verify all details before the job started. I forgot to check as I thought by default they will send. Ended, my 1st night was stress without toilet for my night pee and I refused to head down.... dare to share... I resolved mu urgently into my dustin😅😜🤭

Not mandatory, it's your choice. My sister-in-law only does her main door. However, if there are any toilet leaks or issues in the future, it might be difficult to get assistance from the usual sources.

How was the dust and cleaning up thereafter?

Hi Jean, clean up took awhile, will still feel the dust. If you are covering up, make sure we do overlapping, my overlapped work was bad, hence, a little more dust to clean. Only 1 week later, I felt better. But, the work inside toilet till date I am feeling very very disappointed. So make sure when they do water testing, please ensure it flows well.
