Very good description based on actual experience, I think! Here is my take: I always say that a teacher of children with SEN is the best teacher for all children, because they know how to accommodate different needs in the social context, and really achieve on learning according to the child's needs.

This video does do a great job of breaking down and providing a much better understanding of what inclusive education is! I had no idea how bonkers it was? To group classes together based on basically nothing but age. To deliberately fill classrooms with students with varying abilities whether they're disabled or not? These students will not achieve their true potential.

my son has an autism spectrum disorder. and the way he was treated in all of the schools that he attended bordered on criminal. our district used to have, and still has classrooms with lockable padded cells in them. when kids acted out, typically because of unexpected changes that the staff had failed to prepare them for. they were tossed into the cells and locked in. it happened to my son many times as well as other students. once I was in a middle school class with him observing. He was sitting at his desk reading a book. the teacher told him t put it down. he gently dropped it on the floor in front of himself. he did not throw the book or act aggressively. they then locked him in the cell and called the police. when the policewoman showed up. she went in and nudged him with her foot. he gently moved his leg in her direction. he did not attempt to kick her or act aggressively. she then threatened to arrest him and take him to jail. I was horrified that a police officer could act with such profound ignorance and lack of concern towards a young child. some years later the head of the special education department assured me that we'd never make that mistake again. it never happened again. he was a hero to me and to many other parents. years later, he told me at an IDEA (individuals with disabilities act PTA meeting at my house. about when he worked at Boulder, which is where people with disabilities are housed in Montana. There was child there who had down syndrome. the parents never came to visit him. the boy died and the parents still didn't come. as he told the story he had tears running down his face. he was a hero to me and to many other parents who had children with disabilities. the local high school used to house students with disabilities across the street in a small rundown building. every day he would walk them back to the main school building to participate in classes and lunch with the other students. He passed away a couple of years ago leaving behind many parents and staff who admired him and still miss him and the support that he provided to our kids. one more story, years later he told me about a class in a school on the other side of town that had one of the cells in it. it had a camera in the cell. the then superintendent of the district told him not to show the parent the video. because she'd get the wrong idea. he told me that he showed the mother the video because she'd get the right idea. Thank God for heroes like him. He passed away a couple of years ago leaving many heartbroken parents and staff members.

This is very interesting. But seriously how do you teach children with severe autism or learning disabilities without having to pull them out the classrooms for one on one??. However, to make inclusion more inclusive, teachers will need to get more education on how teach children with SEN which most teachers are not ready to do... The stigmatization is high at every side.

Maybe in an elementary class but try this in senior high school. Grades 10-12. … do you really want someone with severe autism in a chemistry with chemicals and flames from burners?

This is very important session, I dream to become an EiE coordinator. Besides, how should we behave when facing challenges with children who cannot see well and understand to make the inclusive education and of course invoid the integration education or segregation?

Great explanation of what full inclusion is. Now we have to find ways to get there.

Inclusive education is NOT all about placement. That is inclusion. Inclusion although part of inclusive education, is not the same as inclusive education. In lysine education is NOT all about students with disability. Inclusive education is about providing the necessary supports for ALL students and their learning. This video is focussed primarily on disability and ignores the various needs of all other students. Planning time is necessary for ALL teachers who employ inclusive pedagogies. We always plan for diversity if we are an inclusive practitioner. There are too many parts of this video that require challenging, specifically in regard to international research and practice.

Behavioral inclusion is a big mistake..it puts other students at risk for physical harm and should be reversed.
