Infinity has been on my radar for a long time and I'll be honest mostly because of their terrain sets because their aesthetic is brilliant. I'm all about how the table looks so infinity is my bag, I have to say.

It’s actually pretty straight forward basic mechanics but the layers upon layers of rules over years has made Infinity a tough game to break into unless it’s your only game. This could be a perfect sweet spot.

I’m not a fan of metals in general but these are so clean and crisp moulds they look amazing. I’m not a fan of kit bashing myself so these are fine for me and I actually like the extra weight over plastic. Wouldn’t want to do a full 100 model army of them mind!

I am the same as you the original rules were too complex for me to get into it easily but Code One I cannot fault and I got the Kaldstrom set which is amazing value and I have since started adding to my factions

I am excited for Code One. I have Operation Red Veil, and it is good, but just felt like I should be moving on to the full rules, and I never wanted to. I want to get into Aleph, love the slick high tech look of them.

Thats exactly how I felt with the Operation Icestorm set. Its a great set to get you started but its a huge jump from that set to full rules. I think this will bridge that gap.

Hey Ben. It is initially pricey I'd say but then as you need a lot less models its manageable. If you split this with a friend for example you'll both have a game to play a mat and scenery for less than £50 each.

I've got some of the old minis sets and rulebooks and terrain for the old game but I've never opened it up !? can I use the old minis or are they obselete or nerfed ?

The old minis can all still be used in the full game with N4 rules coming later this year. The CodeOne rules at the moment only have rules for 4 factions - Pan-O, O-12, Yu Jing and Combined Army.

I've been meaning to look into options of getting my paper mats laminated. Have you pursued this option? Ideally I'd like something that doesn't reflect light so I can snap a sexy pic upon occasion.

yep I think it is on the expensive side too but well n3 became quite complicated over time with 4 books around apart from the main rule book so streamlining it in view of n4 is definitely a good idea and I will support CB 4 sure. Also I do not think any other company releases these many LTD edition minis and, having most of them, I cannot resist the Shaolin monk ;)

I think that these days we're so used to starter boxes being £50-£60 for most games (with less stuff to be fair) or at the £100 mark with plastic terrain (like Warcry or Marvel Crisis Protocol). That said I think the game feels more up my street so I'm willing to give it a try.

@@BlackJackLegacy ​yep and then obviously CB being successful but not a multinational company like GW it is comprehensible they cannot afford better prices or plastic scenery to be included in the box. I guess CB is more comparable to pre WFB 3rd edition GW, selling material produced in-house, having 100% in-house facilities and no direct distribution to consumers.

also infinity has great fluff... much more adult and multifaceted than GW's. Then there are areas of improvement: the way CB writes rules is not the most transparent.. so I hope for N4 they streamline and rewrite and, why not, improve the layout of the books. Through Defiance and the new box they managed to reignite interest wonderfully tho so 4 now, hats off!

As someone who has never played the old Infinity before, is Corvus Belli planning to release new model boxes for all the units available in CodeOne? And if not, how would I find out which units are allowed in CodeOne and which ones are not? I'm using their list-building app right now and searching the models on their web page, but maybe half of the units are actually coming up in the old Infinity listings.

No interest in Infinity but i am happy they are doing something to get newer players into it or to have quicker games in general. A lot of companies are doing this. Everyone is realising people dont have the time or room to play the main games. This looks very high quality, it might have caught my eye if this had came out a few years earlier. Thanks for the preview because I wouldn’t have even known about it otherwise.

BlackJack Legacy it’s a simple business idea. These skirmish games will let you expand your reach without compromising the main game. I’m sure these games have been in the works for awhile but after seeing Kill Teams success they are all pulling the trigger on them.

Yes you can. The ones in the box are enough to introduce you to the rules and play a small game however you can expand up to 50 point games by buying more or expand further into full Infinity N3 or N4 rules.

Infinity has always had my attention. Wee expensive for just models and cardboard terrain. If it came with a hardcover rule book, maybe. Wish they would switch to plastic models to get the price down. Keep the great content coming Andy.

I think the problem is that its just not big enough to warrant investing in plastic moulding. It's along the lines of Batman minis game, Warmachine etc. All metal or resin minis.

Can't tell you with code one specifically, but the infinity crowd has a general mantra of "It's not the list, it's you." There are definitely ways to ruin list building BUT as long as it's not a god awful list you can still beat your opponent if you have superior tactics.

As an infinity player, I just want to note that the rules distribution works pretty different then other companies. Rules are typically free and accessible online. and stats and profiles are accessible online as well. books have the rules but mostly expand the universe and the story and contain a lot of the flavor and artwork of Infinity. also in my opinion, rules are just as simple/complex as any other system. but having someone to play with defiantly helps with the learning curve.

Yeah it’s a shame there’s not more factions at the start but it does keep it simple for new players just trying to get started and they are coming over time.

The rules were fine, but the lack of cards for characters and the terribly fiddly list building was a huge flaw when I tried it out. It's a skirmish game. I should have cards for my 5-10 models to reference quickly during the game. If they ever change to rhat, I may try it again.

I agree on the cards - I reviewed this when it came out and said I’d make my own as I don’t enjoy keep referencing the stats either in the book or on the app (or printed sheet)

It’s the same price as their last starter set and the quality is excellent but I agree compared to some other games it might be on the higher end. That said you don’t need a lot to play so overall it’s not so bad.

It’s definitely not plastic. The Infinity range is all metal and Corvus Belli have shown off the metal figures.
